The smell of freshly baked bread and coffee combined with a view of the rising sun to re-compensate the crowds on the beach. Las Palmas Gran Canaria, commonly known as Las Palmas is the largest city in the Canary Islands. The islands enjoy a subtropical climate, with mild to warm temperatures throughout the year. With this beach friendly weather + the flora and fauna which the island offers, it's not hard to tell why the island attracts many tourists globally for Las Palmas Gran Canaria i.e. Las Palmas City Tour
The Canary Islands are located off the west coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. Since they're a part of Spain, therefore the EU, so technically it's an even more favorable destination for EU passport holders as you won't need an entry visa.
The Canary Islands can be reached either by a plane or a boat. It was the latter in my case and God! It was a unique experience as the port terminal is shared by cruise liners as well! The sight of these massive beauties alongside clubbed with amazing weather was quite a promising start to my sightseeing day!
Las Palmas Gran Canaria Las Palmas City is a fairly safe city and with a little bit of common sense, you should be able walk around freely without any problems. I set about on foot towards the town center and along the way, I got a glimpse of some of the beautiful landmarks of the city. Unlike most places in the Canaries, Las Palmas has the feel of a mainland Spanish city. The island of Gran Canaria itself, although only 1/3rd largest in the archipelago, is home to 40% of its population.
A big advantage of Las Palmas is its affordability. It might not be able to compete with likes of far east Asia or Central America, but for a sizeable European city it is quite affordable.
The city is home to some of the world's most popular beaches and Playa de las canteras is the nicest of them all! Almost 4 kilometers in length, this beach is the very symbol of the city and its citizens. Considered one of the best urban beaches in the world, it's also quite safe due to the barrier reef and there's lots to do along the promenade.
Las Palmas Gran Canaria Las Palmas City is also a dream for water sports fans, and besides the massive sun bathing picnic enjoying beach crowd, you will see surfers riding out in the waves, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and snorkelling amongst others right here at the Las Canteras beach.
The beach is adjacent to a slew of high end hotels and AirBnbs, both of which are rather expensive but also the only option if you want a sea facing accommodation. However, booking something 2-3 blocks away can cut your costs by half and no matter the place, you can easily walk a few yards and have this picturesque view. Likewise, you can trim your food bill to a third - just skip the touristy restaurants on the promenade and follow where locals eat. Those restaurants are equally fantastic, just less bling!
A few mins walk from the beach is the Santa Catalina Park. Every evening the main squares or narrow streets here turn into meeting places for people of all ages. Adjacent to the park is the local bus station hub. Las Palma's public transport system is cheap and well connected. There is also a Tourist Information Center here, you can get a free map from there along with sightseeing ideas based on your interests and time available. If you have the time, you can use the yellow buses and definitely make a visit to the city's observatory for some breathtaking views especially around sunrise/sunset! Car rentals are also available, but remember to choose a car with powerful engine due to the hilly terrain!
I think the place is very diversified - the ocean just at your fingertips, the sharp peaks of the mountains rising above the water, the endless black beaches of volcanic origins, breath taking view points and so on. As the lights begin to fade, the evening scenes here gets more visible.

This afternoon we walk in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. From the hills of Old Town we head straight down to the Calle Triana, the old walking street (12:50). We walk till the end of Calle Triana to San Telmo Park and go further up North to New Town close to the sea and beaches. We end the walk at the lively Las Canteras beach for wind and waves.
A windy afternoon with some drizzle and a an enjoyable decent distance within that one hour.

On a public holiday we walk in the Old Town of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. A different atmosphere...
It is quiet and at first there are just a few people walking around. We see the Catedral de Santa Ana and walk around Vegueta with the House of Columbus (Casa de Colón), a former government house that was visited by the famous explorer.
We explore Triana and many side streets until we get to the Calle Triana and San Telmo Park from where we return to the Plaza de Santa Ana.

Las Canteras (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) is one of the most important town beaches in the Canary Islands. The temperature is usually pleasant all year round. It is a long beach with a natural barrier reef about 200 metres from the shore, which protects it from the tides, and it is equipped for many types of water sports. It also has a large promenade full of services like terraces and cafés next to the sea.
NOTE: Due to problems in the video recording, a small part of this tour is not included. Sorry for the inconvenience.

La playa de Las Canteras, en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, es una de las playas urbanas más importantes de las Islas Canarias, donde las temperaturas suelen ser agradables durante todo el año. Mutta Las Palmas tarjoaa myös viehättäviä vanhempia kaupunginosia. Las Palmasin keskustaa ympäröi kolme kilometriä pitkä Las Canterasin kullankeltainen hiekkaranta, jota reunustaa rantakatu. Tänne kokoontuvat niin matkailijat kuin paikalliset uimaan, ottamaan aurinkoa, kävelemään tai hölkkäämään pitkin rantaa.
Auringon laskiessa herää henkiin Las Palmasin toinen puoli. Las Palmas houkuttelee lukuisilla baareillaan, ravintoloillaan ja klubeillaan joita on kaikkialla, esim. Terazza Sotaventossa, uuden huvivenesataman alueella. Veguetassa – vanhassa kaupungissa – on kodikkaasti sisustettuja ravintoloita, Santa Anan katedraali ja Nykytaiteen museo.
Las Palmas tarjoaa täydelliset puitteet shoppailuun. Trianan alueella on ostoskatuja designliikkeineen ja antiikkikauppoineen. Myös Mesa y Lopezissa on monia tunnettuja merkkiliikkeitä sekä El Corte Inglésin tavaratalo. Las Palmasissa on lisäksi useita ostoskeskuksia. Las Arenas sijaitsee rantakadun toisessa päässä, täältä löydät mm. Primarkin edullisen ketjumyymälän. El Muelle sijaitsee puolestaan lähellä Catalina-puistoa.
