Highest Tides in the World

I want to share with you a place that will blow your mind! At low tide, you can go for a walk on the ocean floor. And after just a few hours, you could be scuba diving in the same spot! It’s a place that you have to see to believe.

And because I’m a geek about this science stuff, I also found out WHY the tides are so massive here.

Check it out!

The Hopewell Rocks - OFFICIAL Time Lapse video of 45.6 foot tide

The Hopewell Rocks Tidal Exploration Site is a fantastic place to experience the Bay of Fundy's world famous tides. To help our guests understand a full tide cycle, we set up a camera and took 1 photograph per minute from before sunrise until after sunset. The resulting 926 photos were then each used as a frame of video to create this glimpse of the world's largest tides. To fully appreciate this natural wonder, come spend a day with us on the ocean floor.

Great natural wonders - tidal waves at Talbot Bay, Australia - David Attenborough - BBC

David Attenborough narrates this video clip about Talbot Bay, a rarely seen vision of the tide at one of the most wild and rugged parts of Australian shoreline. From BBC.

This is a channel from BBC Studios who help fund new BBC programmes. Service information and feedback:

Bay of Fundy's Radical Tide Swings

Tides effect the entire globe. Meanwhile, in Canada's Nova Scotia the Bay of Fundy serves up tidal swings that draw tourists from around the globe. Four times a day tides expose the ocean's true power, shifting water up to 54 feet at tide change.

Some of the largest tidal swings are seen here in Parrsboro, a small coastal town where boats come in on high tide and rest on the ocean floor during low tide. It's a phenomenon that impresses no matter how many times you see it.

Experiencing the HIGHEST tides in the WORLD at the Bay of Fundy (Hopewell Rocks)

Located between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia lies one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, the Bay of Fundy. This body of water is home to the highest tides in the world, with 160 billion TONS of water flowing in and out of the bay every 6 hours, which is apparently enough to fill the Grand Canyon. ????

To see these crazy tides for ourselves, we spent 18 hours at Hopewell Rocks, a park known for its super cool flowerpot rocks. We experienced the park at low tide by walking on the very muddy ocean floor, which was pretty hilarious. Plus at high tide, both from overlooks and on a kayaking tour. It was absolutely surreal to see areas we were walking on completely covered in water!

Incredible Tidal Bore Hits Village in Indonesia With Unexpected Power Again (Part 2)

Spectacular moment caught on camera when several meter high tidal waves are speeding up to 130 km inland through the Kampar River, Indonesia. Some spectators seem stand too close to the action. Subscribe for extreme nature content ►

The phenomenon, called Bono, is feared by the locals to sink ships, as at full tide during the rainy season the waves can reach a height of 20 feet (6 meters) and a speed of up to 40 km/h. The wave also attracts surfers who attempt to surf the tsunami-like wave, but as the river is also inhabited by crocodiles the surfers need to be escorted by rescue boats!

A tidal bore is a tidal phenomenon in which the incoming tide forms waves of water that travels upwards against the direction of a river or a bay's current. Tidal bores only occur in a few locations worldwide with a large tidal range. Some of the most famous locations for these waves are the Kampar River in Indonesia (seen in video) and the Qiantang River in China, at which the world's largest bore is reaching heights of up to 9 meters. Unfortunately several people die each year in connection with these tidal bores (also find more information about a tidal bore here:

The Bono wave is not just one, but a series of multiple waves. Although surfing the Bono waves can be very difficult due to the extreme currents and large amounts of mud brought up with the waves (besides the crocodiles), it remains a popular destination for surfers from all around the world. The Bono is very powerful if there have been heavy rainfalls before, so especially in the rainy season (also check here for more information about the Bono:
