Did you know that Mauritius is the only country in Africa with Hinduism as the main religion (52%)? Moreover, did you know that nearly everyone here can speak a minimum of 3 languages FLUENTLY?
The humble people of Mauritius, all 1.2 million of them, are as diverse as I've seen in any single country. And that's because there is no indigenous population here -- every Mauritian today is a descendant from immigrants who came here centuries ago, mostly from India, France, Great Britain, East Africa (Madagascar) and China.
As a result, Mauritius is a melting pot of cultures, foods, religions, languages and ideas -- which is extra special for me because I love to dig deep into the local life! In today's video, see what I have discovered about the beautiful people of Mauritius.

While I constantly try to find the positives in every place I visit, there are a few nations that I just simply didn't enjoy.
The country of BRUNEI is one of them.
I went to Brunei back in 2014, three years before I made videos, but my negative experiences in the country have stuck in my mind ever since. That, combined with its absurd human rights laws such as stoning to death LGBT members, I felt like this video needed to be shared with the world.

In this video, you will come to know about the condition of those Indians who came to Mauritius as labourers or indentured labourers. After Apravasi ghat or Immigration depot we visited the Central Market in Port Louis. I had a few conversations with the 'Indian' community. WHY INDIANS NEVER CAME BACK FROM MAURITIUS|| AAPRAVASI GHAT|| MAURITIUS
The story of indentured labour is the story that ended slavery in the British Empire. At the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE OF AAPRAVASI GHAT (means immigration shore) in Port Louis they have an interpretation centre that will teach you what happened. It is called the great experiment and it work to stop slavery. The site is amazing and a must visit if you can. In the end 4,60,000 people moved through Aapravasi Ghat, and most of them remained in Mauritius and become 70% population of Mauritius.
These people were from all over the world. Mostly from India, Madagascar, Mozambique, Kenya, Malaysia, Phillipines, Sri Lanka,. Yemen, Sudan and hundreds from slave ships.

Aapravasi Ghat - An answer to Why Indians are in Mauritius
In the district of Port Louis, lies the 1,640 m2 site where the modern indentured labour diaspora began. In 1834, the British Government selected the island of Mauritius to be the first site for what it called ‘the great experiment’ in the use of ‘free’ labour to replace slaves. The Depot was built in 1849 to receive indentured labourers from India, Eastern Africa, Madagascar, China and Southeast Asia to work on the island’s sugar estates as part of the 'Great Experiment’.
Between 1834 and 1920, almost half a million indentured labourers arrived from India at Aapravasi Ghat to work in the sugar plantations of Mauritius, or to be transferred to Reunion Island, Australia, southern and eastern Africa or the Caribbean.
The buildings of Aapravasi Ghat are among the earliest explicit manifestations of what was to become a global economic system and one of the greatest migrations in history.
