Why Finland is one of the BEST countries for van life.
A travel guide to some of the best stops in Finland. We traveled Finland/Suomi in our self converted camper van and it was fantastic. We drove right from northern Lapland to Helsinki, passing through Kalajoki and having some extraordinary wildlife encounters (brown bears!) along the way.

Finland really does offer the ultimate escape from the rest of Europe. The forests and the wilderness is endless, and the set up and right to roam means that you have the freedom to enjoy being in nature unhindered. We also loved the wildlife, from reindeer on the roads to bears from secret lakeside hides, there was more wildlife in Finland than we'd seen on the rest of our trip through Europe.

Who are we? ????????♀️
We're Tom and Iz, who live and travel in our van La Bamba. We love nature and are currently traveling in Finland!
You might find Tom in the forest IDing a mushroom, fixing something or starting an ambitious project with his laid-back relaxed approach whereas you could find Isabel cooking up a storm, sunning herself on a beach and being a busy, energetic bee with her endless enthusiasm and positivity! We are total opposites but it works!
How did we end up here?! ???? ⏮
We met 10 years ago when we were both finishing our A-levels and had a whirlwind summer romance, hitch-hiking around France together before before going our separate ways to travel and to university. We've both always prioritised travel and adventure and have worked hard over the years in hospitality jobs to enable us to keep exploring.
Tom hitch-hiked across Europe and road tripped around Australia whilst Iz studied Environmental Science at York. Iz backpacked around South America with her sister whilst Tom studied Forestry at Aberdeen University. Little did we know we just weren't going to get each other out of our minds! Fast forward 4 years later, we found ourselves in campsite warden jobs, living in a bell tent in a wild flower meadow together! Maybe without realising this was the start of our van life journey!
Next, we both trained to be science teachers and during training, we bought a van, ripped out it's interior and converted it to live in it. Iz managed to get a remote work-from-home job that she could do from the van and Tom was passionate about starting up a YouTube channel.
Since then we haven't looked back and when the pandemic allowed us to, we travelled to Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and around Cornwall. We are now on a big European road trip! We are giving it our best shot to do YouTube full time. We have a dream of one day owning a little plot of land and building ourselves a cabin in the woods. If you're new around here you can check out our previous videos; we've been uploading weekly videos for the last 9 months and are currently releasing DAILY VIDEOS.
Our message on our channel is to inspire others to do what they love as life is too short! We love living simply, freely with less stuff but more time!

In general, Finland has been one of the best places we have ever visited in our camper van. However, when planning to come to Finland, we did not expect to end up in Hell!

About Vantastic: We are a happy couple who got rid of everything to travel the world. We make vlogs sharing our daily lives in a camper van, our ups and downs, and our adventures around Europe.
What camera equipment do you use?
We use GoPro10, Røde VideoMicro with a dead kitten, Ulanzi tripod mt-16, Ulanzi cage G9, Ulanzi vl49 light, DJ Mavic Pro drone and Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the vlogs. Our electrical power set-up in our camper van allows charging our camera and laptops to film and edit.
What is your van?
Our camper van is Fiat Ducato 2015, Adria Twin conversion panel van. We have done only minor upgrades and mods to our camper van, we pretty much love it as it is.
How do you afford your nomadic lifestyle?
We live on a true shoestring budget. We travel economically, we cook all our meals, we dont visit tourist traps, we enjoy being in the nature and hiking in the nature. We worked traditional office jobs for years and now we live on our savings and investments. We dont believe you need tons of money to to pursue your passion. However, we have learned that you do need to sacrifice comfort, consistency and safety, but that it is possible, very worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes us truly happy!

WASN’T EXPECTING TO STRUGGLE WITH THIS IN NORWAY! (Female Van Life Europe)
Van life in Norway just gets more ridiculous the further north we go! There are literally waterfalls around every corner, we visit the 5th highest waterfall in Norway, take on a tough hike to a glacier, visit a glacial lake and navigate our way around using their inland ferry system.
But, as amazing as it all is (and it really is) there's one thing we weren't expecting to struggle to find, especially in Norway of all places!!
This country is insane, we've never been anywhere quite like it, for van life it's brilliant, probably the best country for van life we've been to so far. Wild camping is easy and there's motorhome services everywhere!!

Our time in Finland has come to a close and we are already looking forward to coming back to this great country. Since we are on a tight budget, we drove reasonably straight up through Finland from Helsinki to get to the arctic circle so there is definitely plenty more for us to come back to and experience.

We are Sam & Gabi and we converted our first van back in 2016. We wanted to drive to a Lindy Hop dance camp in Sweden and to stay there for 5 weeks. We decided to buy a van, throw a mattress in the back and go. One thing led to another and we ended up doing a full van conversion, albeit very basic!
We now travel in our 3rd camper van that we have converted and are very pleased to be able to share our journey with you and also to document it for ourselves for our own memories!
