Mt Pinatubo Adventure | How to, Gears Needed and What to Expect

After a much-needed Holiday break in December, we took our bikes to Mt Pinatubo, an active volcano, and took the challenge of reaching the crater, we ran out of time but it was an amazing experience nonetheless, all I can say is that this should be on your ADV bucket list. In this episode, I talk more about how to do the same adventure ride, the gear you need to bring, and a little bit of my experience riding on sand. If you want to do the exact adventure ride, contact PITRAP (details below), and they will organize everything for you.

CTTO to Team Awra Riders Mark, Michael, Edwin, and Jolo for all the beautiful pictures on this episode. THANK YOU

Thank you to Motoworld, LS2 PH, and Komine for the safety gear on my adventure rides.

PITRAP- Chad Ventura of PITRAP (09287059663/ 09988455848), he will arrange everything for you (guides, food, stay, everything!)

Mt. Pinatubo Zambales Volcano Trek⎜2018 Adventure

Who would think that the 1991 volcanic eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, which is 2nd most destructive in the world of this century, would give birth to a majestic natural wonder that adventurers like me would enjoy?

Hello trackers! I am Lex and this is my Mt. Pinatubo Adventure.

As we all know, the last week of April is reserved for Boracay Beach for the annual Laboracay Holiday. But with the current situation in the island, we have to search for a perfect alternative. My friends and I decided to go on a little adventure and zeroed-in to a mountain trek. I’ve been wanting to do this trek ever since I hiked Taal Volcano. So without thinking, I said yes! And thankful, I did say yes!

IF YOU’RE ON TIME, YOU'RE LATE!
Yes, we arrived a minute past 6:00 am and everyone is ready for the briefing but us. We settled in quickly for this orientation is so essential, it could save you from danger. The team of TRIPinas headed by Ms. Ann, an experienced mountaineer, provided everyone an overview of the volcano and the adventure that we are about to face. (Listen and Learn!) After the orientation, we were group accordingly and jumped into our own 4X4 vehicle and ride the Lahar terrains for about an hour (I assume) to the jump-off point. While on the road, prepare yourself for the Lahar ashes, that's why in the video, you will see our faces fully covered.

(TIP: Be the first vehicle to leave to avoid this dermatologic disaster.)

Expect mandated stop overs so you can take snaps of the mountain ranges of the province.

(TIP: Ask your driver to slow down at some points so you can do your selfies while on the road, they would not mind.)

THE JUMP-OFF POINT.
This place is so majestic, I tell you! You will be welcomed by what they call Sand Castles. these gigantic land masses were formed by the Lahar that escaped the volcano when it erupted. In this stop, another orientation for the adventure-seekers like me. Make sure to listen! (I did not because I was filming... Hahaha! My friends did.)

If there's one thing that I remembered from the orientation, it is the 7 kilometer trek to the crater. Expect an hour 45 minutes trek on the sandy to rocky to uphill to downhill terrains of Pinatubo under the 37-38 degree Celsius heat index of the summer sun.

(TIP: BRING WATER, I MEAN LOTS OF IT! Hydrate yourself and don't die from heat stroke!)

OMG!
The trek is not that easy, really! Ms. Ann clearly specified that this is an Easy trek; that is according to classification of mountain treks. But, I tell you, if you are finicky and squeamish (what I'm trying to say is Certified Maarte), it is Difficult! But the scenery, I should say, that welcomes you every turn you make will compensate the effort. This place is amazingly breathtaking!

2 HOURS AND 20 MINUTES
Yes, I made extensions and got what I deserved...
The Mt. Pinatubo crater is majestic! Picture Perfect!
We decided to have our lunch first before actually exploring the crater for all of us have an impending hypoglycemic attack from the long trek to this point.

(TIP: Pack light, it is not a buffet feast. Unless you have your yay with you to bring everything.)

THE CRATER
30 minutes after lunch, we headed down the volcanic crater and just simply stare at it for quite some time. You will wonder, how is this even possible? It's beautiful, no words can describe the feeling I felt after reaching this point. It's like all my millennial complaints are now gone.

BONUS
Look for the waterfalls and you will find it!

(TIP: We asked our tour guide where the nearest falls is, and he showed us. Its just about 10 minute detour.)

BEWARE OF LAHAT ASHES!
On our way back to the town with our 4X4 ride, the morning Lahar ashes somewhat multiplied to 100 million!

(TIP: Make sure all your gadgets are kept inside you bag! My camera lens was damaged.)

4x4 offroad and hike to Mount Pinatubo Volcano - Philippines | Travel Vlog #76

Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano in the Zambales Mountains, located on the tripoint boundary of the Philippine provinces of Zambales, Tarlac and Pampanga, all in Central Luzon on the northern island of Luzon.

Being so close to such an amazing create of nature I couldn't do anything else than just to spend whole day and witness this result of a great eruption.

Thanks for watching!

Hiking Mt. Pinatubo, Philippines - Get QiRanger Out There! #13

While in the Philippines this past winter vacation, Jo and I tried to make the most of it. We of course met up with friends and family, but on our last day in-country, we managed to convince a dozen friends to join us as we traveled a few hours out of Manila to hike up the Mount Pinatubo volcano.

This is something Jo and I have wanted to do for some time, but never got around to it. Jo literally planned this trip with friends for a month, while we were cruising throughout Southeast Asia. When the day arrived, it started early - 1am early.

Once up and showered, we hopped in a taxi to grab some coffee and meet our friends. Since this is a trip that's quite far from where we were, we opted to book with a tour company that included pick-up and drop off in Manila. Many of the tour companies will do this and make all the 4x4 arrangements as well.

A few more hours of shut-eye followed, as the driver made his way to the drop-ff point for Mt. Pinatubo. Once there, we left our 15-passenger van and signed in with the Tour Company. Since we had so many people, our group was divided into several 4x4 jeeps. These off-road vehicles would take us some 40 minutes up a riverbed and flow before the sun rose to the start of the trailhead.

The trail itself is fairly flat, measuring only 5km from the parking area to the crater lake. The last 20 minutes or so is the steepest, but nearly everyone in moderate physical shape should be able to make the hike up Pinatubo. The cost for this excursion varies, and is usually dependent on how many are in your party. The more you have, the cheaper it gets. The best deals are around 2,000pp.

Hiking a Volcano: Mount Pinatubo, Philippines

Mount Pinatubo is described as a beautiful disaster.
It was 1991 and I remembered at 6 years old I woke up so excited coz I thought it was snowing in the Philippines. Not knowing that it was ashes coming from the eruption of what they thought was just a mountain.
It killed a lot of people living around the area and you can still see remnants of that disaster but now the crater became an attraction to the locals and foreigners to see.
One time that my sister and I went home to the Philippines together, we decided to bring our family for a day trip and visit Mount Pinatubo.

MT PINATUBO | Intense 4x4 Ride and Relaxing Hike! | Sights and Sounds

Experience the surreal sights and sounds of the wild 4x4 ride followed by calm hike to the crater lake of Mt. Pinatubo! This is one of the best-known day trips from Metro Manila for a reason, and can be done in half a day, not including travel time.

The journey begins with a very early morning Victory Liner bus ride from Manila to Capas Junction, Tarlac, followed by a tricycle ride to Santa Juliana, the jumpoff point for the 4x4s. The 4x4s drop us off at the trailhead, which seems to vary over the years, and the hike begins.

This video was in 2015, so pardon the technical shortcomings and shaky footage! For more updated info, I suggest you check out
