Driving at Kennon Road -The Fastest But Riskiest Road to Baguio | NOW OPEN to Tourists | Philippines

Kennon Road is now passable to tourists!

Since March 2020, passing to Kennon Road has been exclusively used for residents only. Tourists wishing to go to Baguio City must use Marcos Hwy. But last April 2022, the local government has been slowly allowing tourists to use Kennon Road (with specific schedule, see below).

Kennon Road is faster and shorter than Marcos Highway (Aspiras–Palispis). But this road is more prone to landslides, falling debris, and fallen trees. It's also frequent to road closures especially after a strong typhoon!

KENNON ROAD SCHEDULE:

-Every 5:00 AM Sunday until 5:00 AM Monday, Kennon Road is open to outbound traffic from Baguio City or motorists going down Baguio City (Manila Bound).

-Every 5:01 AM Monday until 4:59 AM Sunday, Kennon Road is open to inbound traffic to Baguio City or motorists going up to Baguio City (Baguio Bound).

*This video was taken a few days after a strong typhoon and continuous rain in the northern part of Luzon.

*No checkpoints and no more requirements such as QTP, visita, etc.

This is a full driving tour of Kennon Road heading to Baguio City, Benguet Province, Philippines.

____
This former rest and recreation facility of the U.S. Armed Forces is older than the city itself. For almost the whole of the 20th century it is what made Baguio City in the Philippines, Little America.

In 1903, Camp John Hay was designed for the exclusive use of the US Military and Department of Defense in the Far East. This U.S. base, named after U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt's Secretary of State, was used by the Japanese as a concentration camp for American and British soldiers during WWII. It was also used as their military headquarters when General Yamashita moved up north from Manila towards the end of the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines.

This 690-hectare property was finally turned over to the Philippines 1991 upon the expiration of the R.P.-U.S. Bases Agreement. From 1991 to 1997, Filipinos ran the former U.S. Air Force recreational facility for the first time as a resort, operating all the popular and familiar spots as close to the originals as possible: 19th Tee, Halfway House, Mile-Hi, Lone Star, Main Club, the Scout Hill Snack Bar and the Bakery.

252 STEPS to BAGUIO City's LOURDES GROTTO | Tourist Spots | 4K WALKING TOUR [Travel 2021]

Baguio City Tour 2021 New Normal travel - where to go in Baguio 2021 / 2022 - tourist spots and travel destination walk tour in 4K Philippines. The Lourdes Grotto (Address: Dominican Hill Rd, Baguio, 2600 Benguet) is a Catholic shrine and place of prayer and meditation located on Mirador Hill in the western part of Baguio. Inside the grotto is a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes. Lourdes Grotto is particularly crowded on Sundays and during Holy Week, when pilgrims and devotees come to seek the blessing of the Virgin Mary. To reach the shrine the visitor must climb 252 steps. When you reach the top of the stairs, it is traditional to light a candle. An excellent view of the city is to be had from the grotto. Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto (Baguio City, Benguet): This is a Catholic shrine and pilgrimage site assigned to Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, located on Dominican Hill Road Baguio, Philippines. The Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto (or simply the Grotto or Lourdes Grotto), a Catholic shrine and place of prayer and meditation, is one of the most popular attractions in Baguio City. Located on Mirador (meaning “prospect point”) Hill, in the western part of the city, this very familiar and much photographed spot is particularly crowded on Sundays and during Holy Week, when pilgrims and devotees come to seek the blessing of the Virgin Mary. Visitors to this popular tourist destination have increased in numbers over the years. On Good Friday, it is estimated that about 10,000 people visit the grotto. To reach the shrine, visitors must climb 252 steps or drive a light vehicle up a winding and steep paved road. When you reach the top of the stairs, it is traditional to light a candle. The century-old Lourdes Grotto, an integral adjunct of the Mirador Jesuit Villa, was constructed in 1913 at the initiative of Fr. José Algue, S.J., the director of the Manila Observatory. It was made of the same limestone, probably gathered on Mirador Hill, and was built, in slow stages, by Jesuit scholastics (seminarians), brothers and fathers, usually during the summer when Jesuits on vacation would augment the community’s population. The stairway, from the grotto to the foot of the hills, was completed five years later. The steps began as stones laid on the ground but was later covered with cement. Inside the grotto is a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes. The image, of polychromed molave, was carved by noted sculptor Isabelo Tampingco, whose name is inscribed (“I. Tampingco Manila 1913”) at the back of the statue. Above the statue are inscribed the Latin words Tota Pulchra Es Maria (“You are beautiful Mary,” part of an old Catholic prayer of the same title). An excellent view of the city can be had from the grotto. Within the shrine is the Kapilya nina Hesus at Maria (Chapel of Jesus and Mary). Commonly known as the Lourdes Grotto Chapel, inside is an image of the Divine Mercy on the left and Our Lady of Lourdes on the right.

Burnham Park - The most relaxing place in Baguio City | Walking Tour | 4K | Benguet, Philippines

Burnham Park is probably the most relaxing place in Baguio City. With its cool wind and countless trees, strolling here is an unforgettable experience.

Developed in 1905, the park is named after Daniel Hudson Burnham, an American architect and urban planner. He was also the one who laid the plans and design for Baguio City. Most of the park’s features were originally from Daniel Burnham’s design but a few changes and alterations were made to enhance the park’s beauty.
