Walking in St. John's, Antigua - What to do on Your Day in Port

This is a quick video of our walk through the port of St. John's, Antigua. We were on a 7 day Southern Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas. Antigua is a beautiful island. In this video we walk up to St. John's Cathedral also known as the St. John the Divine, the Cathedral Church of the Diocese of North Eastern Caribbean and Aruba. It is an Anglican church perched on a hilltop in St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda. The present cathedral with its imposing white twin towers was built on a fossilized reef, in 1845, and is now in its third incarnation, as earthquakes in 1683 and in 1745 destroyed the previous structures. The iron gates on the south face of the church are flanked by pillars displaying lead Biblical figures of St John the Divine and St John the Baptist. They were taken by HMS Temple in 1756, from a French ship destined for Martinique.

Antigua is one of the 2 major islands that make up the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda. Ringed with coral reefs, the island is known for its many sandy beaches. Set along English Harbour, restored Nelson’s Dockyard, which Admiral Horatio Nelson made his base in the 1780s, includes a marina and the Dockyard Museum. Trails lead up to Shirley Heights, a former military lookout with panoramic views.

St Lucia, Port Castries and local Beach. Jean reports for Doris Visits

Castries is a protected almost land-locked harbour of St Lucia. There are a few things to see but you might want to get out. We have videos of the Soufriere Volcano, the Botanical Gardens and the Rain Forest Hike, Sky Ride and Zip line. In this film we show you the town and local beach. See cruise guides worldwide on

Saint Lucia is an island nation in the Caribbean. It is part of the Windward Islands in the Lesser Antilles of the Eastern Caribbean. St Lucia was named after Saint Lucy of Syracuse by French sailors that were shipwrecked on the island.

St Lucia is known for its volcanic terrain, clear blue waters, lush greenery, and white sand beaches. Saint Lucia’s two volcanic peaks, the Pitons consisting of the Gros Piton and Petit Piton are among the island’s most notable features.

Port of Castries, St. Lucia mit der Anthem of the Seas von Royal Caribbean International

An Bord der Anthem of the Seas von RCCL besuchen wir Port of Castries, St. Lucia.

We took a trip with RCCL cruise ship, Anthem of the Seas, and it was nothing less than spectacular.

Skydiving auf See erleben!

We took a trip with Royal Caribbean`s cruise ship, Anthem of the Seas, and it was nothing less than spectacular.

North Star, RipCord, skyDiving, Flowrider, Seaplex, - there are so many great attractions on board!

In fact, Anthem of the Seas offers so many fun, interesting and culinary attractions that sometimes it is hard to choose.

There is no large hall stretching through the ship but a winding two level walk way ending in a large plaza instead.

Shoppers will be delighted to find shops like Cartier, BVLGARI.

The ship that took us from New York City all the way down to the Caribbean and back has more than 2100 cabins and 32 categories to choose from.

Inside cabins got much more attractive due to a virtual balcony showing live footage from whatever is happening outside. 24 hours a day. Live. Pretty great!

Some of the main attractions are Skydiving at sea, thanks to a high tech sky diving simulator, the Bumper Cars, the robotic bar tenders at Bionic Bar and the North Star, which enables you to rise 300 feet above sea level and gives you a view of the sea and the ship you've never seen before. The restaurants are amazing too

LOCAL Saint Lucia Experience (Soufriere and Castries) I Vlog #42

We arrived in the beautiful island of Saint Lucia with Bernard (still feeling sick) in tow. We took a different approach for touring the Caribbean, instead of aiming for the idyllic beaches and luxury resorts in Castries and Gros Islet, we decided spend our short 3 days stay at an Airbnb in a small local seaport town of Soufriere.

Taking the off beaten path also has it consequences, as we soon learnt, small towns like these don't usually get many frequent foreign visitors, so naturally our presences attracts plenty of attention and interests from the locals, both good and bad. We were blessed to meet some very friendly folks that showed us the authentic experience of island life in St Lucia, and also some rather hostile locals that made themselves very clear they do not like our presences near them. It's rather unfortunate, but we made the best out of our experience during our stay there.

When we had a full day to explore the island, we decided to do a day trip to visit Castries, the capital city of the country; over climbing a Piton, which is mountainous volcano as Bernard was still not feeling a 100% yet.

It was definitely an eye opening experience, taking the local bus/van that only cost $3 one way, that took us through many mountainous paths and windy roads, and it was a glimpse of how many of the locals commute to the main city for work/school and home.

Our highlight in St Lucia was definitely the food, and the hospitality of our host and some of the restaurants that gave us this opportunity to experience this small part of their life and culture.

We started our trip back in April 2, 2019 from New York City. We quit our 9-6 jobs, sold all of our belongings, and began traveling full time. We left our jobs because we were unable to be with family and enjoy life. Work was taking up too much time and something had to change. We saved up for 2 years and began traveling as soon as we found a deal that would take us around the world for just $285.00. We started this #travelvlog to share our adventures with friends and family. At the one year mark, we realized that we had only scratched the surface and there was still so much to see. We are so fortunate to be doing this every day. We hope you enjoy our content and will subscribe to our adventures.

As part of our Crown Princess Southern Caribbean Cruise, we visited the beautiful island of St.Lucia. A big thanks to Real St. Lucia Tours for sponsoring our tour and hosting us!

During this video, you'll see some of the incredible places we visited in St. Lucia while we were in port for the day. We began our tour from the St. Lucia cruise terminal where we met our tour guide, Isaac. We boarded the air conditioned van made our way through the town of Castries and saw the gorgeous landscape, and stopped for a photo stop.

Some of the sights we saw included L'Anse La Raye fishing village, the Edmond Rainforest, Tete Paul Nature Trail, the Banana Plantation, the Suplhuric Springs and Mud Baths, the town of Soufriere, and the Touraille Waterfalls.

We learned a lot about life in St. Lucia during our tour, including information about the 2 Pitons, the national flower, Hibiscus, and National Plant, the giant fern.

We ended our tour with a delicious lunch at the Beacon Restaurant, where the view was just amazing!

St Lucia Travel Vlog | Hiking the Petit Piton | Day 4 Celebrity Summit Cruise | 2020 | Episode 4

St Lucia Vlog | Hiking the Petit Piton | Celebrity Summit Cruise | 2020 | Episode 4

In this video we spend our port day in St. Lucia by exploring the island and hiking up the challenging Petit Piton.

The Petit Piton is the smaller of the two well known Pitons on the island of St. Lucia. We chose to hike Petit because it was known to be more challenging and involves rock climbing.

This excursion was not offered through the Celebrity Summit, likely due to the time it takes and the difficulty level. This hike is for those who are fit and adventurous. If you are considering this hike, know that there is risk involved. Portions of the last quarter of the climb are nearly vertical. One must use ropes and be able to hold most of your body weight, after a vigorous hike. Climb at your own risk.

We were initially not sure if we would be able to hike the Petit Piton when visiting on a cruise ship. It is approximately 2.5 hours round trip from the cruise port to the base of the Petit Piton. The hike typically takes visitors between 3.5 and 5 hours. After much research we finally located a tour company that ensured us they had picked up guests from the cruise port, hiked to the top of the Piton and returned to the ship before the all aboard time.

We booked the Petit Piton Climbing Expedition through St. Lucia Tours. You can find reviews about the Petit Piton Climbing Expedition on Trip Advisor. Here is their contact information:

Deighton was responsive and answered all of our questions through the booking process. Our guide Shanus, the Mountain Fox, did an wonderful job ensuring we made it to the top and allowing us to enjoy our time at the top when we made it. Overall, St. Lucia Tours and the Petit Piton hike exceeded our expectations. We would do it all over again.

If you are not quite as adventurous as we are, the company offers additional tours, including hiking the Gros Piton and going on an island tour.
This is the fourth episode in our series about cruising on the Celebrity Summit. Our cruise visited ports in Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Kitts and St. Thomas. Make sure to subscribe to our channel to watch the full series.
