French Guiana (Cayenne · Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni) Drone Flight: French Guiana, officially called Guiana (French: Guyane), is an overseas department and region of France, on the north Atlantic coast of South America in the Guyanas. It borders Brazil to the east and south and Suriname to the west. Its 83,534 km2 area has a very low population density of only 3.4 inhabitants per square kilometre, with half of its 281,612 inhabitants in 2018 living in the metropolitan area of Cayenne, its capital. My trip to French Guiana was short because it's super expensive and I didn't want to stay there for long. But it's definitely the most developed of the three countries thanks to being an overseas territory of France.

Best Places to Visit in French Guiana
Christopher Columbus first sighted French Guiana in 1498, deep in equatorial South America. French Guiana is a department of France bordering Brazil, Suriname, and the Atlantic since they settled in the region in the 17th century. It has few people, a vast amazon rainforest, savanna and a long coast along the Atlantic Ocean. Almost half of its inhabitants live in and around Cayenne, the capitol city; other areas tend to be little developed, but ripe for ecotourism.
Except the coastal regions, most of French Guiana is a dense, tropical rain forest, including the Guiana Amazonian Park.
French Guiana has numerous coastal beaches that are popular nesting sites for turtles. The Leatherback turtle in particular is very fond of this region’s shoreline. It is one of the largest nesting sites for this turtle anywhere in the world.
While visiting the capital Cayenne, go to the Chou Aï Rescue Center, where you can hold and play with sloths and learn all about them. As French Guiana is a department of France, the local currency is the Euro. It is also important to note that French is the official language and English is not widely spoken.

French Guiana Drone Flight: French Guiana is an overseas department of France on the northeast coast of South America, composed mainly of tropical rainforest. The ruins of 17th-century Fort Cépérou overlook the capital, Cayenne, with its colorful Creole houses and street markets. Shops and cafes surround the palm-filled main square, Place des Palmistes. The Rémire-Montjoly suburb is lined with Atlantic coast beaches. To the northwest is the coastal town of Kourou, home to the Guiana Space Centre, a spacecraft launch site and museum offering guided tours. Offshore are the Îles du Salut, comprising 3 small islands with the ruins of a notorious penal colony known as Devils Island, portrayed in Henri Charrières book “Papillon.” Huge leatherback turtles come ashore, notably in the Awala-Yalimapo commune on the Suriname border, during nesting season. Upriver is Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, a small colonial-style settlement where pirogue boat trips head inland to explore villages and Amazonian rainforest. [wikipedia // Google]

Arriving in Cayenne, French Guiana for Erasmus
From all possible Erasmus studies mobility destination I chose Universite de Guyane in Cayenne, French Guiana! In January I arrived in South America for the first time in my life, escaping the covid restrictions and cold european winter.
