Gayathri Tiffin Room, widely known as GTR in the city of Mysuru, is a destination loved for its tiffin items, especially a variety of dosas! Must-Try Mysore’s Very Popular KUKKARAHALLI LAKE Breakfast Tradition | DEEPU GAADI & MYSURU KAAPI

#mysuru #breakfast #coffee

popular breakfast spot in mysuru, food in mysore, mysore food trail, traditional, south indian tiffin, dosa, dose, set dosa, thatte idli, filter coffee, kukkarahalli lake, mysore

Every city has its popular morning traditions, Mysuru too has its share of them. A delicious one though seems to be that of going for a long walk around Kukkarahalli lake followed by a steaming, hot breakfast at a food rickshaw, Upahara Darshini, popularly known as Deepu Gaadi. The popular draw here is the set masala, smaller than your usual dosa, perhaps to let its fans indulge in more than one of these scrumptious beauties. On a recent dash into Mysuru, I took time out to experience half of this popular tradition, no points for guessing which half, followed by a delicious cup of filter kaapi. Hope you enjoy this breezy watch. Take care, stay safe and happy eating!

Breakfast At Upahara Darshini (Deepu Gaadi)
I paid Rs. 70 (usd 1) for a single thatte idli with a vade, and a plate of set masala dose. The thatte idli is soft, a bit pasty, but goes well with the chutney. The set masala dosa though is the dish to try here. The dose is well roasted, crisp and translucent in the centre, revealing flecks of a spicy red chutney smeared within.
8/10 overall

Filter Coffee At Mysuru Kaapi
The coffee is thick, strong and just the sort of beverage to wash down an indulgent ghee-laden breakfast.
Rs. 12 (usd 0.2)
8/10

Softest, Fluffiest SRI LAKSHMI BHAVAN TIFFIN ROOM Khaali Dosae Making & Tasting! 68 Year Recipe!

Over the last couple of years, I have received innumerable requests from our viewers to taste the khaali dosae at Chitradurga’s popular Sri Lakshmi Bhavan Tiffin Room. And so, on a recent drive through the area, I stopped at this 68-year old institution where I enjoyed my short conversation with the humble second-generation proprietor, Mr Mahabala, and also caught the making of what is perhaps one of the fluffiest khaali dosae that I’ve eaten. Khaali means ‘empty’ in kannada, there is no oil deployed in the dosae’s cooking, but ironically the tradition here is to serve it with some tuppa (ghee), and palya (potato stuffing) to make for an enjoyable, filling thindi. And they say, you shouldn't leave here without tasting their soft gulab jamun, which is what i savoured too in addition to a lovely idli sambar.

Hope you enjoy this tiffin watch, definitely pencil the place into your travel plans when in and around Chitradurga. Happy eating.

In this episode of Gourmet On The Road, Food Lovers’ Editor Kripal Amanna gets a close look at the making of these soft, melt-in-the-mouth dosas and discovers that they are cooked on a massive iron tawa over a searing hot wood fire! He samples the Idlis here (One of the three items in total on the menu here) and of course, the famous Mylari Masala Dosa. He also ends his meal with a sticky, jammy Kashi Halwa.

Tasting Mysuru’s Popular ‘Tuppa Dosae’ At 80-Year-Old MAHESH TIFFANIES Tuppada Dose Hotel

popular dosa eatery in mysore, mahesh tiffanies, tuppada dose hotel, ramachandra agrahara, agrahara, mysuru, village tradition, tuppa dosa, tuppa dosae, vanaspati dosae, ghee dosa, masala dosa, chutney, masala vada, ambode

Ask any denizen of Mysuru for the ‘tuppada dosae’ hotel and chances are you will be directed to this quaint shop that has stood the test of time for over eight decades in the bylanes of Ramachandra Agrahara. Begun by Mr Hollappa in the 1940s, this breakfast-only eatery is now run by his son, 86-year old Mahadevappa, and grandson, Mahesh. The must-try (actually one of only three items on the menu) here is the scrumptious Tuppa Dosae, roasted with liberal lashings of ‘vanaspati’ ghee, to accommodate “taste and budget” as pointed out by Mahesh. I dropped in for a quick chat and breakfast during a recent drive through the city.

Hope you enjoy this watch. I take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a blessed Deepavali. Stay safe and strong. Happy eating!

TOF Food Journey's Pitstop - 1 and 2 || Episode 1

It's Tummy On Fire's food journey and we wanted it to make it very special and we headed to our most favorite city that is Mysore. A heritage city and one of the cleanest city of India. We were more excited to explore the traditional food joints in Mysore. So morning around 10AM we reached mysore and straightly headed to Gayathri Tiffin Rooms, GTR which is one of the oldest restaurant in mysore who serves the lipsmacking Masala Doe-Say and Kesri Bath. They have amazing delicacies on their menu apart from Doe-say and KesriBath. Service is really good and fast, very friendly staffs. Ambiance is quite good and pleasing. So after our heavy breakfast we headed to have something cold to drink and we found a place called Grape Juice Corner which serves one of the best grape juice in town. Grape seems to be quite fermented and this is apparently very different from what we call Arabian Pulpy Grape. But this has its own tradition of serving it to the people of Mysuru. So our mission Pitstop-1 and pitstop-2 has been successfully accomplished and we will head to our next pitstops and please stay tuned for that.
