Venice is one of the most beautiful and famous cities in the world. In the 13th century, Venice was the most prosperous city in Europe. The city became very wealthy because it monopolized the trade of spices and products from the Middle East to Northern and Western Europe between the Byzantine and subsequent Ottoman Empires. Venice was closely associated with Constantinople. Venice eventually became a European empire (La Serenissima) with many trade centers and colonies along the Adriatic Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean. His greatest fortune, eventually lost to the Turks, was Greece's Crete and Cyprus islands.
Today, Venice is a city for tourists, and many Venetian people are leaving to live more comfortably on the mainland of Mestre. Venice still has about 250,000 inhabitants. The city has several Renaissance and Baroque buildings, as well as hundreds of churches and cathedrals. The most important is St. Mark's Basilica. Other architectural wonders surrounding the canal and the Great Canal include the Rialto Bridge, the Doge's Palace and the Tower of St. Mark.

On one of the islands in the Venetian lagoon sits Burano Island, one of the ten most colorful settlements in all of Italy and a center for lace production. Burano Venezia, where notable artists like Pino Donaggio, Remigio Barbaro, and Baldassare Galuppi were born, served as the model for Buranella Art.
One of the four islands in the lagoon of Venice, Burano is connected to the island of Mazzorbo by a bridge. The Burano lace, a centuries-old needlework, and the traditional vividly colored cottages of the region are what make them famous.
The only square in Burano Venice, Piazza Baldassare Galuppi, is the center of the community. It is named for the famous composer from the eighteenth century and is overlooked by the church of San Martino, which is currently the only place of worship on the island. Its bell tower, which has a sharp slope, is renowned. The Santa Maria delle Grazie church, also called the Church of the Capuchins, is close by and currently holds art exhibitions and other activities.
Being a fishing island, the native cuisine focuses on fish dishes, including spaghetti with clams, cuttlefish ink, and an abundance of fresh fish, particularly lagoon fish. The most popular is risotto di g, in which the broth in which the rice is cooked and beaten is created from g, a typical fish of the Venetian lagoon known as gudgeon across Italy. Bussolà, a yellow donut biscuit made of eggs, flour, and butter, is the traditional dessert of the village of Burano; it should not be mistaken with the bossolà of Chioggia, which is a doughnut toast. According to tradition, the wives of the fishermen who spent a lot of time away from home fishing prepared the bussolà. If the fishermen were unable to eat well, the biscuits offered would provide them all the energy they needed to deal with the marine life.
