Most tourists who come to Uganda visit more than one destination. You can combine your Queen Elizabeth safari with gorilla trekking safaris in Bwindi, or tour Murchison Falls National Park. For relaxation after your wildlife safari, you can visit Ssese Islands but if you are more interested in adventure, take on rafting on the nile, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale, Rwenzori Mountains climbing and Mount elgon hike.

Queen Elizabeth National Park occupies an estimated 1,978 square kilometres (764 sq mi). The park extends from Lake George in the north-east to Lake Edward in the south-west and includes the Kazinga Channel connecting the two lakes.

The park was founded in 1952 as Kazinga National Park. It was renamed two years later to commemorate a visit by Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is known for its wildlife, including Cape buffaloes, hippopotami, crocodiles, elephants, leopards, lions, and chimpanzees. It is home to 95 mammal species and over 500 species of birds. The area around Ishasha in Rukungiri District is famous for its tree-climbing lions, whose males sport black manes. Poachers killed six elephants in the park in 2015, triggering both anger and frustration within the Ugandan conservation community.

The park is also famous for its volcanic features, including volcanic cones and deep craters, many with crater lakes, such as the Katwe craters, from which salt is extracted.

Services in the park include a telecenter run by Conservation Through Public Health and the Uganda Wildlife Authority, neighboring the Queen's Pavilion, park lodges, game and scenic drives, and boat launches.

Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the most popular safari destinations in all of Uganda. The park is renowned for diverse ecosystems and an abundance of wildlife and the Ishasha sector within the park is one of the few places in the world where you can spot tree climbing lions!

Unlike other safari destinations in Africa, Queen Elizabeth National Park was not overcrowded, giving us an opportunity to observe lions, elephants, buffaloes, kobs, birds, and other wildlife without the crowds.

UGANDA Safari | QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Our trip to Uganda took 10 days, and I'm sure I'll never forget it. On the top of the cake was the company of two of my sons, Marta and João, since Joana couldn't come due to her busy work agenda. Finally a great thanks to Carlos, long time true friend who, with Red Chilli Hideaway have designed the trip.

This is the second video of a serie of video I'll produce, and I pretend to give you a quick feel of this wonderful and friendly country, UGANDA!

Queen Elizabeth National Park - Uganda National Parks

Queen Elizabeth National Park originally called “Kazinga National Park” is without doubt one of the leading Uganda wildlife safari destinations. Founded in 1952 and renamed in 1954 as Queen Elizabeth National Park, this spectacular Uganda safari park takes its name from the Queen Elizabeth II in commemoration of her visit. Bush Lodge near Queen Elizabeth Park in Uganda was truly amazing

We looked at many options of places to stay in Queen Elizabeth National Park during our Ugandan adventure and we were very happy with our choice. Our room overlooked the water and we could see and hear hippos the entire time. We did hear hippos during the night but it did not impact our sleep at all we found it to be just another amazing experience falling asleep to hippo sounds. We stayed at Bush Lodge for 2 nights and enjoyed a lovely dinner out by the fire each night which made for wonderful ambiance during our Safari. We would recommend staying here on our way into the lodge we were fortunate to see cape buffalo, elephants and antelope.

Details on Bush Lodge - it is a safari camp conveniently near the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park for wildlife viewing and Kyambura Chimp tracking as well as excursions on the Kazinga Channel. Bush Lodge has 12 self-contained tents elegantly built around the indigenous bush. The tents are erected on a raised wooden platform and made from a fine combination of canvas and local materials. Giant mosquito netted windows allow a 180-degree view of the natural surroundings.

All tents have an ensuite bathroom with running water for your hand-basin, a flushing toilet, and an outside shower with 24/24 hours of hot water, where two showerheads allow couples to take their starlit shower together.

UGANDA - Chimp tracking & Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Another must do in Uganda is chimp tracking. They move around a lot so it's harder to see them upclose (compared to the gorillas), but when they communicate with loud screams it is an intense experience.

Before I take you to the chimpansees in Kibale Forest, we'll do some more safari in Queen Elizabeth National park with tree climbing lions and hippos going for a walk. We did a short stop at the Rwenzori Mountains but for a full-on trekking you need more days (and quite some dollars too).

Our last stops were Semliki Wildlife Reserve where we found the elusive shoebill bird, and Jinja where we did white water rafting. No videos from the rafting, but our hotel pool in Jinja was pretty epic too.

It's worth watching this video on a laptop/desktop, as we always kept a safe distance from the animals. If you're keen to see Uganda's wildlife, you will appreciate it better on a larger screen.
