When ready, browse vacation packages to Tuscany:

#Tuscany is a legendary region in central Italy that stretches from the Apennine Mountains to the west coast, meandering through endless vineyards, medieval towns and the impossibly beautiful cities of Florence, Siena and Pisa.

In contrast with today’s modern world, Tuscany lures travelers with the promise of a warmer, gentler way of living.

Here, high art mingles deliciously with warm sunshine and fragrant wine. History seeps through the cobblestones and small occasions are transformed into the greatest of pleasures.

Around six hundred years ago, Tuscany changed the world forever when economic, cultural and political forces collided, sparking the Renaissance. It was a new way of thought in which art and education were highly prized and the search for happiness, a noble goal.

Although the world has changed much since then, Tuscany’s values hold firm and a #vacation to this region can leave visitors happily spending days and weeks slowly rediscovering them.

For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Tuscany Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Tuscany in Italy.
Tuscany was named after the Etruskans, who were called ‘Tusci’ by the Romans. The kingdom was eventually divided into independent dukedoms and, from 1531, the Medici ruled, a family of businessmen and bankers.Capital of Tuscany is Florence, a city of art and joie de vivre and past home of important artists and sculptors such as Donatello, Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci, plus the writers Dante and Boccaccio, not to mention the scientist, Galileo Galilei. Lucca, one of Tuscany’s most important historical towns, rises from the lower reaches of the Serchio river, on a former swamp. Dating from the Middle Ages, it is surrounded by a massive 4.2 kilometre long brick wall which helped the town retain its independence, and also protected it from the floodwaters of the Serchio. The precarious imperfection of The Leaning Tower Of Pisa is in stark contrast to the grandiose palaces and religious buildings of the Medici family and the natural contours of the hills and mountains of this European nirvana complete the connection between art and nature. Tuscany satisfies all the senses!

Tuscany Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Tuscany.
Florence is the capital of Tuscany and at the end of the 14th Century was ruled by a few leading families who not only financed churches but also competed in building magnificent palaces. Of these, the Medici family proved to be the most powerful. It is a city of art and joie de vivre and past home of important artists and sculptors such as Donatello, Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci, plus the writers Dante and Boccaccio, not to mention the scientist, Galileo Galilei. The most modern of the Tuscany spas was built in the valley below Montecatini Alto which can be reached on a rack-railway which climbs to the top of the mountain through orchards and fields. Lucca, one of Tuscany’s most important historical towns, rises from the lower reaches of the Serchio river, on a former swamp. Dating from the Middle Ages, it is surrounded by a massive brick wall which helped the town retain its independence and also protected it from the floodwaters of the Serchio. The precarious imperfection of the Leaning Tower of Pisa is in stark contrast to the grandiose palaces and religious buildings of the Medici family and the natural contours of the hills. The Cathedral, Bapisterium and Campanile form a unique, grandiose harmony and display the liberal mindedness of those who were in power during their construction. Olive groves and vineyards line the gentle hilly landscape around the picturesque, Vinci. The birthplace of Leonardo is a simple farmhouse above the square in which only a modest bust portrays this universal genius. Surrounded by the cities of Florence, Siena, and Pisa, Certaldo is a Middle Age village built of red brick and was the birthplace of the author, Giovanni Boccaccio. The heart of Tuscany lies around the provincial capital of Siena, a Gothic city of great artistry. The entire structure, its squares and streets, most of the residential quarter and noble palaces, the cathedral and the church, date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. History and culture combined with the beauty of nature…Tuscany has it all!

Tuscany's Dolce Vita

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2006 | Tuscany offers a dolce vita mix of hearty cuisine, fascinating history, and gentle beauty. First we'll learn about the original Tuscans — the ancient Etruscans — at Volterra's Etruscan Museum, then we'll tour a hill town that was important to both the Etruscans and the Romans, head into the woods for a truffle hunt, eat slow food Italian-style during Sunday lunch in Chiusure, and finish in Montepulciano, where we'll get passionate about the local wine. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #tuscany

Italy Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Italy.
Bella Italia! An historic picture book, from the snow covered Alps in the north to the dreamy lagoon city of Venice whose palaces are built on wooden stakes and whose ‘Carnevale’ is world famous. From the romantic hill landscape of Tosca where the aromas once inspired Leonardo Da Vinci, to Rome, the city that during antiquity was the centre of the Roman Empire and that is now the seat of the Catholic Pope. To Sicily in the south, an island of gods and natural forces. A journey through time in one of the most beautiful counties in Central Europe. Venice, a town with a hundred and twenty churches. The largest and most famous is the Basilica Di San Marco and, due to its magnificence, it is also called, ‘The Golden Basilica’. Byzantine elements and Late Gothic lines unite in the beautiful domed ceiling of the Basilica. With magnificent mosaics, icons and frescos, this pre-Christianity setting takes visitors to the Orient. The Canal Grande is regarded as Venice’s main street. It weaves through the main lagoon city past palaces, churches and houses. The boat service called, Vaporetto, plus gondolas and small motorboats, replace buses, cars and bicycles. Pope Pius The Second was born in Corsignano. At the height of his papacy he ordered the Florentine architect, Rosselino, to build a cathedral with a Bishop’s Palace and further palaces. In only a few years of building the only city of the Renaissance was founded and was then renamed Pienza, The City Of Pius. At approximately one hundred and ninety seven thousand acres and divided into over seven hundred wine growing estates in the hill region between Florence and Siena, is a name famous all over the world for its wine: Chianti! The region’s first vines were planted by the Etruscans and in the early Middle Ages it was the monks of Vallombrosa who cleared the uninhabited hill slopes and cultivated the first vineyards. Italy is always worth a visit. With its great variety of natural landscapes and cultures it is a land of joie de vivre that enchants both body and soul. Bella Italia - a fairy tale come true!

Rome Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

Rome – A city of staggering history and beauty. Check out its best sights in our travel video and start planning a trip of your own so you can become a part of the story.

When ready, browse vacation packages to Rome:

#Rome, the former Caput Mundi, or Capital of the World, sits beneath Palatine Hill, where the ruins of its original incarnation are open for exploration.

No #vacation is complete without stopping by the remains of the Temple of Saturn and Arch of Septimus, both located in the Roman Forum. Stop by the Colosseum, a relic of Roman bloodsports and perhaps the most recognizable element of the city.

Toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure you’ll return to Rome one day; don’t toss in two coins unless you’re ready to fall in love with a Roman.

Continue your Rome #sightseeing in St. Peter’s Square, home of St. Peter’s Basilica. The world’s largest church, designed by Michelangelo, is both a remarkable structure and a tribute to faith. After this, it’s just a few steps to restaurants filled with Italian food. Forget coming back to Rome – you’ll never want to leave.

For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.
