Traveling to Bermuda: Beaches and Twizy Reviews

Going to Bermuda was on my bucket list for a long time and we finally got to go in September 2018. We arrived in Bermuda via the Carnival Sunshine from Port Canaveral. The unique thing about porting in Bermuda is that you get to stay overnight so you have time to truly explore and enjoy the island. Here is a run down of the places we went and where in the video you can find the info.

Bermuda was absolutely beautiful. Thanks to the Twizy from Current Vehicles we were able to go all over the island and explore more than we would have ever been able to through excursions and public transportation.

Cheers!

Twizy Review - Bermuda

When visiting Bermuda, you need to find a way around. There are scooters, buses, taxis, and ferries. But those are boring! You are in Bermuda so you want to have some fun. On our recent trip to Bermuda, we took a chance on the Twizy (from Current Vehicles) and it was the BEST decision! It was a great way to get around the island and see all the beauty Bermuda has to offer.

In this video, we show you the Twizy basics, like how to charge it and get in and out of it. We also show you were the Dockyard charging station is (trust me this one was hard to find).

For more about Bermuda and scenes from the Twizy drives, check out our full Bermuda review here:

Cheers!
Heather and Jay

Current Vehicles offers the Renault Twizy for rent while you visit the island. This video was not sponsored by CV but we had to share how awesome these guys were!

Twizy Electric Car Review, Tourist's Guide to Bermuda, Art Mel's Epic Fish Sandwich

NOMAD Episode #70
Bermuda is one of the most beautiful places in the hemisphere. Gorgeous turquoise water, pink sand beaches, crystal clear oceans. For all of these reasons, Damon Amendolara of CBS Sports Radio decided to take his honeymoon there. You'll see breathtaking views of the island and incredible sights of the ocean.
But how do you get around? If you don't want to rely on the thriving cab industry, you can only rent a scooter or a Twizy. There are no rental cars on the island, and the roads are narrow and windy. So D.A. takes you on his adventure of driving a moped and renting a Current electric vehicle.
D.A. brings you inside the electric Twizy, showing how to use one, how much space is inside, and how to charge it. Combine that with driving on the other side of the road, and you have yourself some intrigue!
D.A. and his wife also head to Art Mel's for the famous fish sandwich. It's the most notable fish sandwich on the island, and it doesn't disappoint. Huge pieces of fish, crisp coleslaw and the secret ingredient: raisin bread! Your mouth will water as you watch.
The couple also heads to Gibbs Hill Lighthouse for amazing views for miles around, although D.A.'s fear of heights gets the best of him. Enjpy a trip to Bermuda with D.A.!

Driving a Twizy around Bermuda

Everything You Need to Know About Horseshoe Bay Beach, Bermuda - One of the World's Top #10 Beaches!

Widely considered one of the best beaches on planet Earth, and runner-up by USA Today for Best Caribbean Beach - even though Bermuda isn't in the Caribbean. Horseshoe Bay Beach has everything you could ask for. Located in Southhampton Parish, one of the nine parishes in Bermuda, this beach is renowned for its white and pink sand. Horseshoe Bay has the most beautiful cyan, turquoise, and aqua colored water. Moreover, this seaside getaway is clean, safe, spacious, picturesque, the water is clear, it has conveniently located bathrooms/changing rooms, a bar, food, and trails for hiking/exercising. Also, you can rent accommodations at Horseshoe Bay such as beach chairs, umbrellas, and other equipment. Known for its convenience and ease of access, there are multiple modes of transportation that you can use to get to this beach including: taxi, carpool, bus, motorbike, electric car (Twizy), electric scooter, and more. There are several animal species that you might see here including: parrot fish, long tails, red land crabs, Portuguese man of war (they're poisonous), and even on rare occasion migrating humpback whales during whale season. There is a place for children if you have any. Baby beach is conveniently located off to the right as you walk onto the beach. Its water is very calm, much like Horseshoe Bay's, and provides a good opportunity for your little one to enjoy the ocean, but in a more controlled environment. Feel free to lounge at your own leisure, go for a run early in the morning, kite surf, surf in general, snorkel, or play a game of beach volleyball. The possibilities feel almost endless and I guess that is why this place is viewed by so make beach lovers and experts as one of the best beaches in the world.

During the filming of this video Horseshoe Bay Live (Bar/Restaurant) was doing renovations, so apologies if it is either closed or looks totally different by the time you visit.

Please don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe! Also, I'd love to hear a favorite memory that you have on this beach or how you found out about Bermuda!

10 Things Not to Do in Bermuda

Get more Tips here!

Bermuda is an archipelago of 138 islands that are covered in pink, sandy beaches; specialty shopping; world-class cuisine; and beautiful golf courses. You might be eager to visit it, but take into account these 10 things NOT to do in Bermuda.

1. Don’t Try to Rent a Car
If you’re hoping you’ll be able to rent a car to zip around one of the islands, you’ll be out of luck. Bermudan law makes it illegal to operate a car without a Bermudan driver’s license.

2. Don’t Rent a Motorbike
If it’s your first time on one of these scooters, you might want to think it twice. Many local bus and taxi operators tend to exceed the speed limits on the roads, and they often switch lanes without any warning.

3. Don’t Forget to Try a Swizzle

This tasty concoction is made with Gosling’s Black Seal rum, Gosling’s Gold rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, grenadine, and Angostura bitters. A swizzle is then spun rapidly between your hands and inside the cocktail to give it a thick layer of frost.

4. Don’t Visit the Pink Sand Beaches

One of the most talked about attractions in Bermuda is its pink sand beaches. If you want to enjoy some peace and quiet on a less-hectic coastline, check out the quiet beach on Warwick Long Bay located on Bermuda’s South Shore instead.

5. Don’t Visit on a Tight Budget
You really shouldn’t expect to receive a discount on anything in Bermuda. Since everything has to be imported in, it’s all marked up to insanely high prices.

6. Don’t Touch the Portuguese Man of War
It’s known to float above the surface of the water. Below their purple bladders, they have polyps which contain long tentacles ranging from 30-150 feet long. They can inject venom, and in some cases, it can be fatal.

7. Don’t Stop by Royal Navy Dockyard
Adjacent to the cruise port, this area is full of expensive restaurants and pricey shops. However, if you travel just a few miles more, you’ll find more shops and restaurants that have decent prices.

8. Don’t Book a Budget Hotel
Many people advise visitors to stay at a bed and breakfast instead. The accommodations will be much cheaper, and if you’re traveling with a large group, a B&B will be less expensive per person.

9. Don’t Stay Off the Beaten Path
The islands are so spread out that it’s difficult to make your way from one end to the other. Far from the central locations, many buses stop infrequently, and a lot of the routes end around 7 PM every night. After that, there would only be expensive taxis.

10. Don’t Be Afraid of Sharks
There’s really no need to fear them. The two most common, Galapagos and Dusky sharks, don’t come very close to the shore. And, they’re relatively harmless. Bermuda is known for having a low amount of shark attacks.

#37. Bermuda’s Beaches. Which one should you go?

#1. Horseshoe Bay is a well-known for pink sand beach and turquoise water in Bermuda. It is located on Bermuda's South Shore and is a great beach for tourist to relax. Horseshoe Bay is easy to access via public transportation: just take the #7 bus from the City of Hamilton or the Royal Naval Dockyard. The bus fare costs about $9.00 round trip per person. Kids under 5 years old are free. The travel time takes about 30-45 minutes from the cruise port.

If you travel with kids or elderly persons, then, it is better to use the shuttle bus ($14 round trip--same price for both kids and adults) from the Royal Naval Dockyard, cruise port, due to hilly and long walk from the public bus stop to the shore.

#2. Tobacco Bay is located a very short distance from the town of St. George ferry port. From the Royal Naval Dockyard, it takes about 45 minutes ferry ride over to St. George. The ferry costs about $9.00 round trip per person. Kids under 5 years old are free. Once you get to St. George ferry station, you can walk to the beach or take a taxi or shuttle bus ($7-$10 each way) to Tobacco Bay. It is not advisable to walk if you travel with kids due to narrow sidewalk and hilly roads.

Enjoy and have a great time!
