Heading to Europe & Not Sure What to Pack? Here are a few things that my fellow US travelers may want to avoid packing if they are traveling to Europe.
1. Baseball Caps: Europeans in general do not wear baseball caps, especially backwards. You would be better served to wear a more traditional hat. You will see an occasional NY Yankee hat, but why not buy the fancy hat you always wanted instead?
2. Athletic Wear: Europeans tend to wear athletic wear to do sports, not to wear around town. There is a trend of more athleisurewear in Europe, but it is not to the extent that there is in US.
3. Khakis: the omnipresent US male pant choice is not something you will see too often in Europe. Go for colored pants or jeans. If you want khaki like pants wear Chinos instead of Dockers. The pants you will see are a thinner cut or skinnier fit than in the US.
4. Oversized US University Sweatshirts.
5. Sport Shoes or High Heals: US sport shoes and white socks are not quite as popular in Europe as they are in the US. You may be better off with Urban Street shoes like Vans instead. Also, women should be careful with high heels as with all the cobblestone it is easy to hurt your ankles.

Your cruise fare on HAL covers the cost of your stateroom for the duration of the trip, including daily service by a stateroom attendant. The type of cabin you choose will be the biggest factor when determining your total cruise costs.
Additionally, guests can enjoy three meals a day included in the standard cruise fare on every Holland America ship. The Dining Room is Holland America’s main dining room. For dinner, guests have the option of early or late traditional dining or the Dine Anytime option. Like most cruise lines, HAL's main dining rooms offer a multi-course rotational menu that changes nightly.
In addition to this upscale dining venue, Holland America offers several more casual dining spots that are also included in your cruise fare. Some of these options include New York Pizza, Dive-In, Grand Dutch Café, and the Lido Market.
Further, there is always something to do on a Holland America ship that will not cost anything. So, whether you’d prefer to just lounge by the pool or partake in one of the many offerings, it’s completely up to you.
It wouldn’t be a cruise if there wasn’t nightly entertainment in the main theater. With production shows, comedians, and BBC Earth in Concert, there is certainly something everyone will enjoy.
Holland America Line ships also have several musically inspired venues including B.B. King's Blues Club, Billboard Onboard, Rolling Stone Rock Room, and Lincoln Center Stage each with its own signature drink menu.
Regardless of your interests, there is plenty to do, see, and eat while on your Holland America vacation without paying anything extra. However, there are also several upgraded experiences and add-ons that are not included in the cruise fare.

Cruise gratuities are services charges that are not included in the standard cruise fare, similar to a hotel resort fee. These additional fees are a per person, per day dollar amount that are charged to all guests across all stateroom categories.
Holland America will transport you to several exciting ports of call. Unfortunately, shore excursions are not part of the cruise fare either.
Further, you will need to purchase an internet package if you want to stay in touch with family and friends, as WiFi is not part of the cruise fare.
While there are many dining venues covered in the cruise fare, HAL also offers up-charge dining venues. From the signature steakhouse Pinnacle Grill to Tamarind and Canaletto, there are a variety of upscale dining options on HAL ships that will cost you extra money.
As you might expect, alcoholic beverages are not included in the standard cruise fare either. Beverages like specialty coffees, soft drinks, and bottled water are all an additional fee too. If you plan to consume any of these beverages on a regular basis, you should consider purchasing a drink package. The most inclusive is the Elite Drink Package which includes all drinks priced up to $15.
Or, you could upgrade to the Have It All Cruise Package when booking. For a 7-day cruise, this package provides 1 shore excursion up to $100, 1 specialty dining, a WiFi package, and the Signature Beverage Package.
