At the crossroads of culture, Nessebar was a starting line for many European concepts we take for granted today. Originally a Thracian settlement, it became a Greek colony at the beginning of the 6th century BC. But the peninsular town possesses more than the remains of an assortment of iconic and historic eras. This hub on the Black Sea changed the world because the very concept of money was pioneered here.

In this video the travel turtles visit Nessebar, old town and beach. This is one of the more beautiful and ancient towns in Europe. Steeped in history, this town offers some stunning architecture and places to visit. Nessebar Old Town beach is located along the eastern tip of the island, and offers sunbeds for hire with comfortable padding. The bars and restaurants are absolutely wonderful and provide an authentic feel of Bulgarian Culture.

Why Nessebar Is One Of Bulgaria's Most Beautiful Cities
After a few days in the Bulgarian city of Varna, I headed down the coast of the Black Sea to the ancient city of Nessebar.
As I was visiting out of season, the city was like a ghost town! This meant I could explore the beautiful old town without thousands of tourists filling the narrow, cobbled streets.
The old town of Nessebar is an open museum with a rich, three-millennia history. I dicovered Byzantine-era fortifications and baths, ancient churches and church ruins where locals were playing football! I was absolutely blown away by its beauty.

Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe, but also one of the least explored.
When we thought about going to Bulgaria, we only had a week to visit the country. As the flight landed in Sofia, it is clear that the capital of Bulgaria would be the first place to visit. Although part of the group didn't have high expectations for Sofia, in the end, it was a pleasant surprise for everyone. There are a number of things to visit and enjoy around the city center, on a tour that is very well done on foot. We spent two full days in Sofia, a nd it was more than enough.
Then, we went to Velico Tarnovo and took the bus trip. It was 3 hours of travel that passed in an instant.
Velico Tarnovo is a city in central northern Bulgaria, on the banks of the Yantra River. It is often referred to as the “city of the Tsars.” The city has a unique architecture, in which we highlight the old city and the three hills that rise from the river.
The Hill of Tsarevets is what stands out the most, due to the important fortification that was built there in the 12th century. We spent 3 days of absolute relaxation and communion with the city's cultural life.
Again on the road, and again by bus, we went to visit the Black Sea, more precisely the city of Varna. The trip lasted again about three hours, in which we enjoyed landscapes that varied from cereal plains to low hills. Varna is a somewhat run-down seaside town, where we highlight the fantastic park that runs along the beaches, making a buffer between the beach and the city, and the Archeology Museum that you should not miss. The park is very well maintained and deserves a long walk. It is the third city in Bulgaria and has an important history where the presence of the Roman Empire stands out at every corner.

NESSEBAR AND BURGAS TOUR (Unesco World Heritage Site)
At the crossroads of culture, Nessebar was a starting line for many European concepts we take for granted today. Originally a Thracian settlement, it became a Greek colony at the beginning of the 6th century BC. But the peninsular town possesses more than the remains of an assortment of iconic and historic eras. This hub on the Black Sea changed the world because the very concept of money was invented here.
Nessebar was once an important trading city and part of the Delian League: an alliance of ancient Greek states. During the centuries to follow, it remained a strategic nexus for the cultures and epochs that passed through this pivotal place. Today, you'll find the remnants of these eras in the form of buildings from the Middle Ages and Byzantine Empires. The historic city, located in modern-day Bulgaria, reflects all the stages of development of architectural styles in the Balkans.
Nessebar was also responsible for another key aspect of the region's development—namely the evolution of trade and a monetary system to match.
Nessebar is proud of its churches. The Church of St. Sofia, known as the Old Metropolitan Church, and the Church of Virgin Eleusa, situated on the northern shore, are three-aisled basilicas dating to the early Byzantine period in the 5th and 6th centuries. The Church of St. John the Baptist, from the 11th century, is distinguished by its cylindrical dome. The Church of St. Stephen is remarkable for its frescoes from the 16th century.
Nessebar is also the cultural treasury of Bulgaria. In 1956 it was declared “a museum town, an archaeological, and architectural reserve.” Because of its unique historic value, it was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1983. Today, the Old Town is an attractive place for romantic walks along the narrow cobbled streets, between boutiques selling interesting handmade goods.
Burgas is one of the largest cities in the country. It is situated on the Black Sea shore, in Burgas Bay, at a distance of 400 km from Sofia and 130 km from Varna. Burgas is an administrative center of the area with the same name. The city's population is more than 230,000 people.
The Burgas port is the largest cargo port in the country. The airport which serves international flights is situated at a distance of 10 km northeast of the city.
Burgas is the cultural center of the region, which is evident by the active work of the Burgas Opera, Dramatic Theater “Adriana Budevska”, and the State Puppet Theater of Burgas. There are also multiple galleries in the city. Many cultural events are also conducted in the renovated Marine Casino. The Marine Park is a suitable place for a walk and relaxation. The summer theater of the city is also situated here. Diverse concerts and performances are conducted in it.
The Burgas fore bridge is one of the favorite places for walking of the residents and visitors of the city. It was constructed in 1936 and is situated near the Casino.

Sunny Beach. Nessebar is a Bulgarian city located on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, on a rocky peninsula 850 m long and 300 m wide, 37 km north of the city of Burgas. Nessebar is divided into two parts: New Nessebar, where most of the modern houses and hotels are located, the resort complex Sunny Beach - and Old Nessebar, located on a small peninsula. Nessebar is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It is the successor of an ancient Thracian settlement called Mesembria, which existed from the beginning of the first millennium BC. e. In 510 BC. e. it was turned into a Greek colony. From antiquity to the present day, the ruins of the fortress wall, towers, gates, and reliefs have been preserved.
