Traditional CROATIAN FOOD in Zagreb, Croatia | DELICIOUS Croatian food the LOCALS are eating

Traditional Croatian food in Zagreb, Croatia | DELICIOUS Croatian food the LOCALS are eating

We're in Zagreb, Croatia! Zagreb is the capital city of Croatia and is situated inland. Croatia's food culture is very regional and in this 2 part series we aim to show you dishes from Zagreb but also of the surrounding regions.

This video is all about traditional Croatian dishes and eating them in local restaurants. We eat bean stew and ribs and boiled beef at a local spot in the suburbs which features a changing daily lunch menu and then take you to the most popular shop in town for burek. Burek although of Turkish origin is a really popular snack here in Croatia (it harks back to the Ottoman times which explains why you will see this dish in most countries in this region). Lastly we take you for a traditional Croatian lunch of Slavonian Čobanac (Shepherd's stew from the Slavonia region) and Zagrebački odrezak (Croatian cordon bleu). We hope you enjoy this Croatian food tour in Zagreb, Croatia! #croatianfood #croatia #croatianfoodtour

What we ate and where we ate it:

1. Grah (bean stew) and rebrica (ribs) and Lešo Junetina (boiled beef) at Kod Šime, Martićeva ul. 62, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia. Open Monday to Saturday 8:00am to 11:00pm. Get there at lunch time to catch the daily menu.

2. Burek at Dolac 9, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia. Open Monday to Friday 6:00am to 6:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 6:00am to 3:00pm (or thereabouts)

3. Zagrebački odrezak (Croatian cordon bleu) and Čobanac (shepherd's stew) at Pri Zvoncu, Ul. Vrbik XII 1, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia. Open Monday to Saturday 11:00am to midnight.

Croatian food tour in Zagreb, Croatia | Traditional Croatian food CHEESY Štrukli + SEAFOOD feast

Croatian food in Zagreb, Croatia | Traditional Croatian food tour CHEESY Štrukli + SEAFOOD feast | Croatia food tour

We're in Zagreb, Croatia! Zagreb is the capital city of Croatia and is situated inland. Croatia's food culture is very regional and in this 2 part series we aim to show you dishes from Zagreb but also of the surrounding regions. We kick off at a seafood restaurant owned by a fishmonger in Dolac Market the main market in Zagreb. We tuck into a fresh seafood platter of prawns, calamari and sardines. Then it's off for Zagorski Štrukli, a must eat dish in Zagreb made up of fresh cottage cheese, cheese, eggs and sour cream rolled up in a special dough and baked at a local spot which specialises in all types of Štrukli including both savoury and sweet options. In our opinion, the traditional savoury version is the best. We take you to a Zagreb fast food institution for a ham and cheese toasted sandwich which uses budjola- a ham made from pork neck and smoked over beech wood before sharing an old school bakery which specialises in Croatian cakes. We hope you enjoy this Croatian food tour in Zagreb, Croatia! #croatianfood #croatia #croatiafoodtour

What we ate and where we ate it:

1. Seafood at Amfora, Croatia, Dolac 2, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia. Open daily 8:00am to 4:00pm

2. Štrukli at La Štruk, Skalinska ul. 5, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia. Open Monday to Saturday 11:00am to 10:00pm and Sunday 11:30am to 10:00pm

3. Toasted sandwich with budjola at Pingvin, Ul. Nikole Tesle 7, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia. Open Monday to Saturday 10:00am to 4:00am and Sunday 6:00pm to 2:00am.

4. Traditional Croatian cakes at Slastičarnica Ilica, Ilica 92, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia. Open 7:00am to 10:00pm.

CROATIAN FOOD TOUR ????????(Top traditional foods in Zagreb)

This country may have some of the top traditional comfort food in the world. In this Croatian Food Tour video around Zagreb, Croatia, we will be eating a variety of traditional Croatian food. Croatian cuisine really ranges across the country, with heavy duty flavors to light seafood tastes along the coast. Because we are in Zagreb, the Croatian food is a little bit heavier, lots of delicious meats and breads.

We didn’t know this, but traditional food from Croatia is heavily into Turkey and Pork! So of course, we had to try the zagrebački odrezak, which is like a cordon blue, Croatian cuisine style.

We also tried a variety of Strukli, which was very interesting and unique, but Sam was totally loving the one she got. We will show you what to eat in Zagreb and some of the best food in Zagreb!

We know we missed a lot, so let us know some of your favorite Croatian food in the comments below!

Mlinci: Croatia's Most Comforting Food

Today we are headed to Ivan's parents' house for a traditional Croatian lunch on a Sunday! We will have homemade chicken soup, as well as an authentic peka meal.

Peka is made using an iron dome that's covered in embers and left to cook. You'll see how everything is prepared, and catch a glimpse of how we spend a typical Sunday.

The peka meal is really something special and traditional here, and we have it about 90% of the time. You can put any meat or vegetables underneath the peka, but most of the time we put a mix of chicken and pork.

You can make bread, dessert, or even just a veggie dish, and everything is always cooked so perfectly!

Croatian meals are always served very family-style, where you put a big platter or dish in the middle, and everyone just scoops and helps themselves as they wish.

For dessert, we typically have some cake that Baka made, or we have Napolitanke with our coffee. Napolitanke are the best little wafers - they're my favorite Croatian cookies, made with chocolate filling, and they're just so light and fluffy!

We hope you enjoy being a part of our family lunch!

ZAGORSKI ŠTRUKLI with Baka Jagica! Traditional, homemade CROATIAN dish you HAVE to try!

Find out more about our private tours throughout Croatia:

Today we went to visit Baka Jagica and she shared her delicious recipe for Strukli (a classic home cooked dish from the Zagorije region in Croatia).

Everything was made from scratch, and Baka Jagica walked us through her famous recipe. Strukli is one of my favorite Croatian dishes and this recipe didn't disappoint!

Pašticada - Slow Food & Wine in The Croatian Countryside

A perfect slow cooker recipe, Pašticada is a delicious Croatian food. Coupled with a wine tasting experience at Krolo Winery, we enjoyed this traditional cuisine about an hour's drive outside the city of Split.

Perfect for holidays and family visits, Pašticada is a hearty dish that makes finding room for dessert a challenge. Typically made with beef, plums, red wine, carrots, potatoes and gnocchi, this dish is best paired with a bold Cabernet Sauvignon or a Merlot. But if you really want a true Croatian Pašticada experience, pop open a bottle of the wine that was born here: Zinfandel.

Croatian Food: Cooking Octopus Peka

Peka, also called ispod peke, is a traditional Croatian dish from the Dalmatia region. It consists of chicken, lamb, veal, or octopus as the main ingredient, with potatoes and vegetables cooked under a clay or iron lid, in an open fireplace. Hot coals are placed over the lid, and the food is left to cook slowly until the meat is tender.

We don't have a clay bell or an open fireplace, but we do crave Peka! So we decided to prepare Octopus Peka (hobotnica ispod peke) with modified techniques.
