Santiago, the capital of Chile, is located in the center of Chile, between the Andes mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
1. San Cristobal Hill, which is about 300 m high, was opened to visitors in 1903.
There is a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, an amphitheater and a chapel at the top of the hill. The 14-meter high statue, illuminated at night, can be seen from all over Santiago.
You can reach the top of the hill in 45 minutes on foot or by santiago funicular from Barrio Bellavista.
2. The National Museum of Fine Arts is one of the most important centers of Chilean art.
The museum was founded in 1880, making it the oldest museum in South America. Behind it is the Museum of Contemporary Art.
3. Mercado Central(Mercado municipal Santiago) is the central market of Santiago. There are many restaurants, fish stalls and gift shops in this architectural building. Mercado central Santiago
was opened in 1872. One of Santiago tourist attractions.
Plaza De Armas is just walking distance from here.
4. La Moneda
Guided tours are free for this beautiful presidential palace but you need to book online in advance.
5. Santiago Plaza de Armas is the main square of Santiago. There are many beautiful buildings around this square, including the cathedral and the main post office.

It's nice to walk around in the evenings, especially at the weekend.
9. Barrio Bellavista is the region with the highest disco and bar density in Chile. It is a neighborhood with a fun atmosphere but not very safe. Be careful, especially if you go at night.
10. With more than 30 interesting modern art sculptures, Parque De Las Esculturas is a beautiful park to visit.

1. San Cristobal Hill, which is about 300 m high, was opened to visitors in 1903.
There is a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, an amphitheater and a chapel at the top of the hill. The 14-meter high statue, illuminated at night, can be seen from all over Santiago.

The museum was founded in 1880, making it the oldest museum in South America. Behind it is the Museum of Contemporary Art.
3. Mercado Central(Mercado municipal Santiago) is the central market of Santiago. There are many restaurants, fish stalls and gift shops in this architectural building. Mercado central Santiago
was opened in 1872. One of Santiago tourist attractions.
Plaza De Armas is just walking distance from here.

Guided tours are free for this beautiful presidential palace but you need to book online in advance.
5. Santiago Plaza de Armas is the main square of Santiago. There are many beautiful buildings around this square, including the cathedral and the main post office.

6. The National History Museum is a beautiful building in the plaza and the entrance is free. It focuses on the colonial and pre-colonial time in Chile. The balcony in the clock tower offers a amazing view.
7. The Metropolitan Cathedral is an impressive historical cathedral. Stained glass windows are great.
8. With its street vendors and shows, good restaurants, cafes and bars, Barrio Lastarria is one of the places where you can have a good time.
It's nice to walk around in the evenings, especially at the weekend.
9. Barrio Bellavista is the region with the highest disco and bar density in Chile. It is a neighborhood with a fun atmosphere but not very safe. Be careful, especially if you go at night.
10. With more than 30 interesting modern art sculptures, Parque De Las Esculturas is a beautiful park to visit.

I got here by plane from Buenos Aires and the airport in Santiago is exceptionally clean and with no queues when I landed. They asked us to fill out an online form before landing but it was never checked by the staff.
The local currency is the Chilean peso, the exchange rate with the US Dollar is currently 1000.
The weather here is often cloudy and cool so remember to bring a jacket.
It's safe in the central area at daytime but you still need to be vigilant and try not to walk around alone at night.
Matsuri in the Mandarin Oriental hotel was fantastic and if you'd like other dinner options, I would recommend CasaLuz in Barrio Italia, Palacio de la Chorillana in Barrio Bellavista and Chipe in Barrio Bellavista.

What are the best things to do in Santiago in 24 hours?
With only 24 hours to spend in the city of Santiago we had to get a move on to see all we wanted of the major attractions with limited time.
We ride the Funicular, see the views from the San Cristobal Hill (Cerro San Cristóbal) and the 22 metre statue of the Virgin Mary .
Lunch was a heartstopping, broiled pork and cheese sandwich, followed by a walk in Santa Lucía Hill (Cerro Santa Lucía). Finally see some of the nightlife in the Bella Vista area of the city.
