LEOPARD 42 Catamaran - Boat review teaser - Multihulls World

Full test in Multihulls World #177:

Forward door and lounge area
In the spirit of the 45 and the 50, the new Leopard 42 offers the best compromise between comfort and performance by keeping a powerful sail plan - overlapping genoa, square-topped mainsail (option) - and hulls with pronounced chines. This model has been designed to accommodate 8 people without restrictions thanks to its volume and its load capacity of nearly 4 tons. There’s the same generosity in terms of tank capacity. The 42 remains faithful to the forward door between the saloon and the foredeck, but offers a lounge on the coachroof, within reach of the raised helm station and with dedicated access. All sail maneuvers are accessible to the helmsman so as to facilitate short- or single-handed sailing. Inside, the yard has retained the concept of the galley being forward in the saloon and facing forward, as with the chart table. All berths (in 3 or 4-cabin version and the same number of bathrooms) are accessible from the sides.

Top 10 Performance Cruising Cats [50 Foot Range, 2022 Models]

If you were to buy a brand new Performance Cruising Cat today, what would you get?! As the Annapolis Boat Show comes to a close, we look at the Top 10 boats we would have liked to see during the show. We provide our thoughts on the types of questions you should ask when buying, what we consider important for a cruising cat, and list the pros and cons for each vessel. Just looking for a particular boat? No problem, just skip to the chapters below:

Take our 1 question survey, which boat would you buy?:

CORRECTIONS:
Since the release of this video we have been informed of a few (inevitable) mistakes. We're sorry! But here are the corrections we wish we could go back and make:
1) The WINDELO price was off badly. We're not sure where we got that information (as price info is hard to find, especially on new boats), but the price should be $1.1m USD. This is down significantly from the $1.6m we reported. It's an interesting boat and one that everyone should check out if you find that layout interesting! And we love their Eco approach. Hopefully that spurs more competitors to do the same.
2) The SEAWIND 1600 is now heavier than reported. After producing the first few hulls they saw a need for improved Heavy Displacement payload and widened it a bit. I'm not sure it affects performance that much, but it is a change from what we reported.
3) The people at ITA reached out to inform us that you can get both Diesel and Electric engines on their new design. Again, this is a pretty cool new boat and very similar to Outremer in terms of design (and probably performance). If you're looking for the fancy Italian version of that French yard, go check them out. Also of note, this boat is Epoxy Infused, which is one of only three boats listed here to have this strong production method.
4) The OC50 from HH CATAMARANS is also Epoxy Infused, making them one of three - along with the KINETIC KC54 (not sure we mentioned that). Epoxy is reportedly 3 times stronger than Polyester and Vinylester (although that depends on the yard producing them). Either way, it is a more expensive production technique and you should know what you are paying for and why. Hope this helps!

BOATS WE LEFT OUT: We intentionally left out kit boats or boats with design plans like Schionning, Chris White and others. While we do have a lot of respect for boats like that, we are focusing today on companies that produce a line of boats and not one-off custom jobs. But that might make for a good future video, so stay tuned! Oh, and we regret leaving the Dazcat out. Click here to learn more:

SPECIAL NOTE: The views expressed in this video are our own, and we were not compensated in any way for making this video. Although we are emotionally attached to our boat and the kind people at Outremer, we tried to be honest with ourselves on what boats we would look at today.

Special thanks to Hans at @GoSunChill who let us use his outstanding drone shot of the Annapolis Boat Show from the weekend! Thanks Hans!

The Center Pod - A Unique Feature Aboard Privilège Catamarans

All Privilège Catamarans share this one feature - the center pod. This unique feature creates a place to position a forestay that's not only ideal for the integrity of the rig, but can also be used to install a storm jib. The center pod also provides an area to mount a twin anchor and windlass system with a deep anchor well. Of course, another unique feature on all Privilège catamarans is the large master suite forward made possible by the center pod.

2021 Multihull of the Year: Explocat 52 Explained [BOAT TOUR]

In this video we tour 2021 Multihull Of the Year Winner, the Explocat 52 cruising catamaran by Garcia Yachts. It’s a catamaran designed for blue water cruising, but not just in the trade winds and tropics like most of the cats we review…instead this boat is destined to go well off the beaten path…a true expedition yacht who’s builder has nearly 50 years experience in building metal boats, yet is a sister yard to the high performance Outremer catamarans and Gunboat.

Leopard 42 Guided Tour

Take a look at all of the exciting new features of the 2020 Leopard 42.

The ultimate performance cruising catamaran. The most affordable, comfortable and fast sailing cats.

Catamaran vs Performance catamaran. What’s the Right Choice For You?

Can a performance cruising catamaran be comfortable? Is it comfort to have numerous bathrooms or smooth motions in heavy seas? Does weight matter? What is the best catamaran for sailing around the world and why?
People are always asking what’s better to buy – Fountain Pajot, Lagoon, Priveledge or Leopard catamaran?
The truth about sailing catamarans is there are much more beautiful and affordable sailboats than you can see on the charter market.
In this sailing video are 3 examples of perfect and comfortable cruising catamarans:
- Atlantic catamaran designed by Chris White
- Cyber catamaran designed by Tim Mumby
- Looping catamaran designed by Patrick Luscher
Interview with long term cruisers/liveaboard owners and catamaran boat tours. Discussions about catamaran life, lightweight construction, sailing speed in different wind conditions, advantages of an ocean crossing on a light, fast and comfortable catamaran.
In this sailing film you can see unique drone shots of 3 beautiful fast catamarans sailing close together.
List of other affordable performance cats (including old Outremer catamarans).
And a look behind the philosophy of different types of catamarans.

Catamarans at Cannes Boat Show - Sailing Greatcircle (ep.224)

We're still preparing for the around the world rally, finishing the after sales list and doing the safety check.

But we do find the time to travel by train to the Cannes Boat Show to (again) have a look at all the (for us) relevant catamarans on display.
Apart from the Outremers we went on board of the Lagoons Sixty5 and 55, on the Privilege 580 and a somewhat shorter glance at the Garcia Explocat 52.

We meet lots of new future Outremer 55 owners and there still is some time on Sunday to take Greatcircle out to sea testing the new Insta360 camera.
