We Made A Big Mistake! | Grand Canyon National Park South Rim

I can't explain to you, and no video I've watched so far, explains it either: how breathtaking the Grand Canyon National Park South Rim is! This week, we are in Tusayan, Arizona and today is THE DAY we get to explore the Grand Canyon National Park! I am so excited to show you how to get into the park, some of the popular trails like Bright Angel Trail and South Kaibob to Ooh Aah Point trails. I made a list of places to eat and sleep if you want to spend your entire trip immersed inside this beautiful desert oasis.

BUT, we also made a big mistake on this trip, so learn from our mistakes and don't let it happen to you. This video also gives you a brief look at parts of Desert View Drive, and we venture that entire route in an upcoming video, so be sure you're subscribed so you don't miss those uploads!

Fastpacking The Grand Canyon | Full Documentary

In this video, the Outdoor Vitals team sets out to fastpack the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim. From the South Kaibab Trail, the group starts running with all their camping and backpacking gear (along with some prototype fastpacks created by OV) down to the Colorado River. After crossing to the other side of the Grand Canyon, the group makes their way into the world-famous Phantom Ranch and Bright Angel Campground for a brief break, before making their way through the side canyon, all the way up the North Kaibab Trail to the North Rim. Though that's where most hikers and runners end their journey, the OV team turns right around to go back down into the canyon, camp in the Bright Angel Campground, and then hike their way back out the Bright Angel Trail. At over 49 miles, the double crossing of the Grand Canyon turns out to be a harrowing journey for some, and an impossible one for others. We hope you enjoy this little documentary's journey, drama, action, and breathtaking views.

Why Grand Canyon National Park restricted South Kaibab trail | South Kaibab to Bright Angel 4K HDR

The South Kaibab trail is one of the three rim to rim corridor trails, and as such is one of the most popular trails into the canyon. In this video, we'll hike down the south Kaibab trail, across the Tonto Trail, and then up the Bright Angel Trail while discussing how Grand Canyon National Park emergency rescue teams were overwhelmed in the 1990s and why access to the South Kaibab trailhead has been restricted for close to thirty years.

The internet and online culture are absolutely brimming with bucket list, must dos, and top 10 lists and so on. But could it be that those lists are not only sabotaging park visitors, leading to people delving too deep, and resulting in skyrocketing emergency incidents within the canyon? And might those rising emergency incidents result in more restrictions in the future?

If you want to read more on the banning of private vehicles along the Yaki Point Road and the South Kaibab trailhead click on the link here:

Exploring the Grand Canyon Pioneer Cemetery

Tucked away in a quiet area near the park's headquarters you can find the Grand Canyon Pioneer Cemetery, the resting place for many of the people who helped build the park into what it is today. A number of the Grand Canyon's historic pioneers are buried here.

The cemetery actually predates the National Park, with the first burial taking place there in January 1919, just weeks before the Grand Canyon would become a National Park. in all there are some 400 individual graves in the Grand Canyon Pioneer Cemetery, along with a mass grave for unidentified remains from one of the planes involved in the June 30, 1956 plane crash over the Grand Canyon.

In this video we explore the cemetery, look at a number of the memorials, and talk about some of the historic figures buried there.

*After finishing this video I saw that Cactus Atlas had done a video on the cemetery in 2019 as well. If you want to see more from the Grand Canyon Pioneer Cemetery be sure to check out their video:

???? A BIT ABOUT US:
We’re Marianne & Chris, a happily married couple from the UK. Marianne is a living kidney donor to her best friend, and realising that life was for living and never really knowing what’s round the corner - we decided to fulfil our dream of travelling full time.

So in March 2018 after the kids had left home, we sold our belongings, rented our house and moved into our campervan called Trudy. We set off to see the world and after vanlifing around Ireland and Europe, we grabbed our backpacks and spent 5 months exploring Central America.

Feeling like we needed a challenge, we planned the ultimate van life adventure! In Jan 2020 set off to drive around the World from UK to UK. But after arriving in Turkey, covid caught up with us and closed the borders, so we had a wonderful 18 months exploring this special country. Realising we were not going to be able to head further East, we decided to do a handbrake turn and go the other way and shipped our van to the USA.

We hope you enjoy coming with us, and we’ll continue to share our real adventures and hope you feel inspire to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.

Rim to rim: The Essential Guide Part 3 | Grand Canyon National Park 4K HDR

#rimtorim #grandcanyon

Rim to rim across the grand canyon may well be the grandest hike in the world, but crossing the grand canyon on foot is not a trek to be undertaken lightly. This is the final entry in the Essential Rim to Rim guide. If you plan to hike anywhere in the canyon, and most especially if you plan to hike or run rim to rim then this full series is absolutely critical viewing.

Far too many people are entering the canyon with bad advice they've gotten from the internet or elsewhere and it's leading to a startling number of deaths in the grand canyon.

This series helps you get the most out of your grand canyon visit and helps you gain the knowledge you need to fall in love with the canyon and explore this natural wonder safely.

Enjoy reliable information and stunning 4K HDR footage of this incredible landscape

Things to do at Grand Canyon WEST RIM

You’re finally planning a trip to the GRAND CANYON, but… where do you start? What points can you visit? Where is the Skywalk? What else is there to do?

All these questions and more are addressed in this 2-part video series on what you can do at the Grand Canyon.

In this video, we cover the major points of interest at the West Rim of the Grand Canyon—also known as Grand Canyon West. It is important to note that the West Rim is NOT a part of Grand Canyon National Park, and is Hualapai Indian Tribal Territory.

→The West Rim is the rim closest to the Nevada/Arizona border.

DOWNLOAD our Grand Canyon map HERE:

There are a couple of different ways you can get to Grand Canyon West:

1. Drive

If you choose to drive, you will likely be coming from either Las Vegas or Arizona. The drive time from Las Vegas, NV, is approximately 2-3 hours. From Flagstaff, the drive is 3.5 hours, and from Phoenix–approximately 4 hours. Admission into Grand Canyon West requires the purchase of a Legacy Ticket, which can be found on Grand Canyon West’s website.

2. Fly

Grand Canyon West Airport is a public airport at the West Rim. You can fly in via either helicopter or airplane. If you choose to fly with Maverick Helicopters or Maverick Airlines, you have the option of departing from Las Vegas (Maverick Helicopters) or Henderson (Maverick Airlines).

If you would like extended exploration time at Grand Canyon West, we recommend our Skywalk Odyssey or Indian Territory experience, where you will be flown into the Grand Canyon West Airport and shuttled to Eagle Point. From Eagle Point, you have your own time to explore and utilize the hop-on-hop-off shuttle to visit other points. Additionally, the Indian Territory experience includes a helicopter landing at our private landing bluff, located at the bottom of the canyon. Admission into Grand Canyon West is included in both tours. Skywalk is included in the Skywalk Odyssey, and an optional experience for the Indian Territory.

For the time-conscious traveler who would like to fly to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, we have helicopters departing from both Las Vegas and Grand Canyon West Airport and landing at our private bluff. The Wind Dancer begins at Las Vegas, while the Grand Canyon Discovery begins at GCW.

My first time seeing the Grand Canyon was nothing short of exceptional. Of course, I wouldn’t be satisfied with simply viewing it from the rim. I needed to venture below the rim in order to get the full experience, and with the North Rim closed, a traditional rim to rim wasn’t going to cut it.

My PCT pal, Stickerz was section hiking the Hayduke, so we formulated a rough plan to meet at the Grand Canyon. I lightly researched a route that left the South Rim at Lipan Point, taking the Tanner Trail to the Escalante Route, to the Tonto Trail before meeting up with the South Kaibab to climb back out of the canyon, and she had secured permits weeks before her departure for the Hayduke, so we were set.

We backpacked for four days below the rim, for a total of 56.1 miles and at least 22,000 feet of elevation change and this video is a recap of that journey. It was a rigorous and rewarding hike and I anticipate its influence leading to many Grand Canyon visits in my future.
