Locals call it the Grand Canyon of Europe, this is how we found and hiked Gorropu Gorge on the island of Sardinia in the Mediterranean off the coast of Italy. This was one of the most enjoyable, beautiful and undiscovered hike's that I've ever been on.

Sardinia Italy is one of the most beautiful places in the world! As we walked along the coastline of Sardinia, the smell of fresh bougainvillea permeated the air as though we had entered a secret serene garden. The sun shined down onto the crystal clear cerulean Sea, illuminating the waters and creating a sparkle effect, dancing in unison on the surface. This was not the Italy we knew before. This was an entirely new world to explore. This was Sardinia.
Just south of Corsica France, Sardinia’s coast had been beckoning us to visit for years, as though it knew we would fall in love with this Mediterranean island lifetimes before stepping onto it. The northeastern coastline of Sardinia, known as the Costa Smeralda, is notorious as the playground for sailing and the rich & famous. Yachts flood the glamorous town of Porto Cervo in the summer months and create an alternate utopian universe for Europe’s bourgeois to rub shoulders. While the Costa Smeralda may be known as the summer playground for the elite, there is so much more that it offers.

Sardinia Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
The second largest island of the Mediterranean managed to keep some of its natural, untouched beauty, which is more and more rare in modern Europe. Large herds of goat and sheep are grazing on the scarcely inhabited Campidoro plain. Here thearchaic patoral culture still lives on. In the Giara di Gesturi National Park a stud of 1500 horses lives completely free. There are almost 8 thousand ‘nurages’, ancient megalithic stone buildings built around 2000 BC. The black diorite, polished by the sea and the wind and the grey granite rocks stand out ouf the blue sea. The island is covered with macchia, a fragrant bush, between them there is myrtle, thyme, rosemary and lavender. The landscape is full of olive trees, cork, almond trees and grape. The narrow alleys of the old towns are edged by Sardinian and Toscan style buildings. If we add to this the beautiful stalactite caves, the monuments of Cagliari, the wild coast of Costa Smeralda, and the magnificent beaches, we can say that Sardinia is the nature lovers’ paradise and a place for an idillic vacation.

In March 2017, Rick and Andrea (confessed Travel Addicts) started a Facebook Group called Travel Addicts as a way to share their travel photos and videos not just with their own respective friend's lists – but with the world. Part of the reason was for bragging rights (I mean, that’s kind of the point of sharing photos, right?), but also to help answer questions to others about the destinations they have visited.
After inviting some of our friends and family, it grew and grew – and as of June 2019, the group has grown to over 200,000 members! One reason for our success, we believe, is that we have done our best to ensure only high-quality photos and videos get shared, all while limiting the use of commercial content.
