Suva Market

It's a foodie's dream destination
Robert Oliver, International Chef and Pacific food expert.

Suva market is the largest open-air market in the South Pacific and can be likened to the extraordinary Les Halles market that once thrived in the centre of Paris.

Nowadays people have a powerful urge to connect to the supply of their food and as a result they are drawn to farmers markets. Suva market has always been a farmers market. The food arrives straight from the farms, the fish is fresh from the ocean and on a Saturday locals travel there from the outer islands to sell their speciality foods.

As a young boy growing up in Suva, international chef Robert Oliver would shop there each week with his family. He tributes this extraordinary place with where he decided to become a chef. It is always his first port of call when he turns up in Suva.

Trip To Suva Municipal Market Fiji

The Suva municipal market Fiji is an experience not to be missed. A huge variety of locally grown produce, from familiar fruits and vegetables, to various exotic fresh fruits.

Don't pass up a chance to visit the Suva Municipal market if you happen to be in Suva. The best days to go, are Thursday to Saturday. That is when the village farmers bring their fresh produce into town to sell, so visiting on one of these days will give you the widest range. But even during the rest of the week, it's still worth a visit.

Suva - the capital of Fiji HD

Suva is the capital of Fiji. It lies on the southeast coast of the main island of Viti Levu and is well worth a guided tour. Our guide showed us downtown, Harbour Centre, Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Statue of the City Centre, Fiji parliament, Albert Park, the Fiji Museum, the guard at the entrance of the presidential palace and the many bats. After a little shopping spree in Downtown the short visit was also fast. I thought it was worth it.
