About Tuvalu: Tuvalu, in the South Pacific, is an independent island nation within the British Commonwealth. Its 9 islands comprise small, thinly populated atolls and reef islands with palm-fringed beaches and WWII sites. Off Funafuti, the capital, the Funafuti Conservation Area offers calm waters for diving and snorkelling among sea turtles and tropical fish, plus several uninhabited islets sheltering sea birds. // Tuvalu (/tuːˈvɑːluː/ (listen) too-VAH-loo), formerly known as the Ellice Islands, is an island country in the Polynesian subregion of Oceania in the Pacific Ocean. Its islands are situated about midway between Hawaii and Australia. They lie east-northeast of the Santa Cruz Islands (which belong to the Solomon Islands), northeast of Vanuatu, southeast of Nauru, south of Kiribati, west of Tokelau, northwest of Samoa and Wallis and Futuna, and north of Fiji. Tuvalu is composed of three reef islands and six atolls. They are spread out between the latitude of 5° and 10° south and between the longitude of 176° and 180°. They lie west of the International Date Line. Tuvalu has a population of 11,204. The total land area of the islands of Tuvalu is 26 square kilometres (10 sq mi). The first inhabitants of Tuvalu were Polynesians, according to well-established theories regarding a migration of Polynesians into the Pacific that began about three thousand years ago. Long before European contact with the Pacific islands, Polynesians frequently voyaged by canoe between the islands. Polynesian navigation skills enabled them to make elaborately planned journeys in either double-hulled sailing canoes or outrigger canoes. Scholars believe that the Polynesians spread out from Samoa and Tonga into the Tuvaluan atolls, which then served as a stepping stone for further migration into the Polynesian outliers in Melanesia and Micronesia. Tuvalu, a tiny Polynesian island nation tucked away in the vastness of the Pacific Ocean, may be one of the world's smallest countries, but its allure is immense. Despite its size, Tuvalu boasts a wealth of natural beauty and cultural heritage that beckons travelers seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure. Here are some of the top attractions that make Tuvalu a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

Funafuti Atoll: Serving as the capital of Tuvalu, Funafuti Atoll is not just a political center but also a vibrant hub of culture and activity. Visitors can explore the bustling markets, witness traditional dances, and immerse themselves in the everyday life of the Tuvaluan people. The highlight of Funafuti is its stunning lagoon, where crystal-clear waters teem with colorful marine life, perfect for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts.

Nanumea: This picturesque atoll in the northern reaches of Tuvalu is renowned for its pristine beaches and tranquil ambiance. Nanumea offers visitors a chance to unwind amidst idyllic surroundings, with its palm-fringed shores and turquoise waters. Travelers can indulge in leisurely strolls along the coastline, soak up the sun on secluded beaches, or engage in water sports like kayaking and paddleboarding.

Tuvalu National Library and Archives: For those interested in delving into Tuvalu's rich history and heritage, a visit to the National Library and Archives is a must. Here, visitors can browse through a treasure trove of documents, photographs, and artifacts that chronicle the island nation's past, from its Polynesian roots to its colonial history and eventual independence. The library also serves as a cultural center, hosting events and exhibitions that celebrate Tuvaluan traditions and customs.

Fongafale Islet: Connected to Funafuti Atoll by a causeway, Fongafale Islet is a vibrant cultural hub where visitors can experience the authentic rhythms of Tuvaluan life. The islet is dotted with traditional villages, where thatched-roof homes and community halls echo with laughter and song. Travelers can partake in cultural activities such as weaving, drumming, and storytelling, gaining insights into Tuvalu's age-old traditions and customs.

Pulaka Underground House: One of Tuvalu's most unique attractions is the Pulaka Underground House, a traditional structure ingeniously built to withstand the island's harsh climate. Carved into the earth, these subterranean dwellings provide shelter from the scorching sun and powerful storms that frequently batter the island. Visitors can tour these remarkable homes, marveling at their ingenious design and learning about the ancient building techniques passed down through generations.

Tuvalu may be small in size, but it offers travelers a wealth of experiences that are big on adventure, culture, and natural beauty. From pristine beaches and vibrant coral reefs to rich historical heritage and traditional villages, Tuvalu is a destination that captivates the hearts and imaginations of all who venture to its shores.

Napping on an AIRSTRIP in Funafuti, Tuvalu

Where's the best place to take a nap in Funafuti, Tuvalu? The airstrip of course! In this vlog I'll tell you why you want to sleep on the tarmac, what the nightlife is like, where to go for a beautiful swim, and other things to do in Funafuti, Tuvalu.

Tuvalu is an amazing Pacific Island with lots of rich cultural heritage, amazing people and a deep knowledge of the lagoon, the ocean and the island way of life. I was fortunate enough to visit for work, and what I've filmed here are some of the things I got up to on my weekend just looking around Funafuti.

If you're considering a visit to Tuvalu, there are some other good resources on the internet other than this video but the flights are from Suva 2-3 times a week (Saturday/Tuesday/Thursday) on Fiji Airways. You fly from Suva airport on a small plane. There's plenty of guest houses and one big hotel. Just get in touch in the comments if you want some opinions or information on where to stay or what to do.

Talofa Tuvalu! I miss you already!

Most Underrated Island Country No One Visits | Tuvalu

Tuvalu is a small independent nation situated in the South Pacific. The beauty of Tuvalu is usually defined through its nine islands, which make it stand out even with the population size of 12,000 people only.

What draws you to this least visited place in the world are the incredibly placed palm trees and the dunes of white sands, which are always complimenting the crystal water.

Tuvalu is the under-visited country in the world with only 2,000 annual visitors.

The country lacks any kind of proper infrastructure, which could help classifying it as a proper state.
