Since ancient times Yemen has enchanted travelers, merchants, philosophers and kings with its secrets and its wealth. At the crossroads of spice and incense routes, Yemen is one of the oldest continuously inhabited regions in the world that has not yet been touched by the winds of modernity. This fascinating country stretching from the shores of the Red Sea to beyond the shores of the Arabian Sea is extraordinarily rich in historical sites.
The ancient sites are refreshingly free of commercial ventures with an atmosphere of uncluttered authenticity no longer present at better-trodden historical locations. One of the most striking features of Yemen is its astonishing architecture. The country is covered in ancient skyscrapers made from stone and mud - where people live on top of their animals.
Every visitor is fascinated with the variety and contrasts in landscape, architecture and people: From gigantic mountains with fortress-like villages on the top of the peaks to picturesque urban settlements with houses of clay, bricks and stone; from deserts to fertile valleys; from dreamlike beaches to colorful markets filled with the sounds, fragrances and faces from 1001 Nights, you will meet the old wisdom and the art of the Land of the Queen of Sheba everywhere.

Hello to all my friends, family, and followers -- I have arrived safely in Yemen and I will be exploring deep into the country by myself and one local guide over the next week.
Yemen is (by far) the most difficult country in the world to visit in terms of logistics (getting a visa, planning, etc) and staying safe. I'm sure you are aware that since 2011, Yemen has been in a constant state of war. Tourists are not welcome here, and it's extremely risky for any traveler to visit at this moment -- especially as both an American and a journalist. I am double at risk.
That all being said, I am beyond excited to have this rare opportunity to take you inside one of the most hidden and raw cultures left on earth. My first 24 hours have already been one hell of an emotional ride (as you'll see in this video) -- and you will be hearing lots more over the coming week.

Living ALONE on Yemen's Remote Socotra Island
Socotra is hands-down one of the most epic places I've been to. On my recent trip to this Yemeni island with Welcome to Socotra, I spent an unforgettable 2 weeks camping, hiking, swimming and exploring.
In Socotra, on a remote beach, I met a modern-day Robinson Crusoe. This man lives alone, isolated from the rest of the world, and I want to tell you about his life.

Wow, I still can't believe it. My dream came true. I got to visit the mysterious Socotra Island in Yemen: it's a prehistoric landscape, filled with numerous endemic species of trees and animals you can only find here and nowhere else on Earth.
Because of its remoteness, and then because of the conflict in Yemen, Socotra has been off-limits to the vast majority of tourists. But I made it ????

While I constantly try to find the positives in every place I visit, there are a few nations that I just simply didn't enjoy.
The country of BRUNEI is one of them.
I went to Brunei back in 2014, three years before I made videos, but my negative experiences in the country have stuck in my mind ever since. That, combined with its absurd human rights laws such as stoning to death LGBT members, I felt like this video needed to be shared with the world.

Yemen is a country located on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, bordering Saudi Arabia and Oman.
Yemen is a country devastated by war and it has had a tumultuous history in the recent past with civil wars raging inside the country.
Though it is a country populated by extremely warm and friendly people and with a lot of things to offer culturally, naturally, and historically, it is still an extremely dangerous destination right now and visitors are discouraged from visiting.
Overall Yemen is currently a very dangerous destination for potential travelers. Governments in several countries have even issued warnings against traveling to this country, for reasons such as terrorism, kidnappings and other types of violent crime. Visiting Yemen can end in you getting seriously hurt or killed.

I have made it to the West African nation of Liberia (country 178) and I am shocked to see how much it reminds me of home!!! After 10 years, I have returned to the country that I enjoyed THE LEAST in all of my travels… Brunei. It’s a tiny country on Borneo island, sandwiched in between Malaysia and Indonesia, and I was very nervous to go back. Why? Because my last video there was all about how much I hated it, and I was so worried that I would be thrown in jail by the government, or even yelled at by the locals…. But this time around, I went in with fresh eyes and a new perspective, and I really enjoyed it!!!
I met up with a local Bruneian friend from Instagram named Bryant, and he took me under his wing to show me his version of Brunei. And what we discovered will seriously blow your mind!!

Did you know that COFFEE originated in Yemen in the 15th Century? I just traveled all the way to the Yemen border in the South Western corner of Saudi Arabia to seek out the ORIGINAL and BEST coffee on this planet... and the incredible people and culture that I discovered along the way left me speechless.
Making this video really took me back to my time in Yemen from a few years ago. I had a blast in that country and I hope to return soon.
