→ Who are we?

Hey there! We are Greg and Hillary – a husband and wife team that loves traveling, going on adventures, and helping others do the same! Although we love traveling, at this point in time, we still have full time 9-5 jobs in Dallas, Texas.
In August of 2016, we packed up our things, Greg quit his job, and we moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!
Hillary is working remotely for her CPA firm and Greg is working on this site full time.
We view ourselves as fairly ordinary people, complete with an ordinary income, ordinary jobs, and (unfortunately) an ordinary amount of student loan debt (thanks UNT!).
I know what you are thinking, “Aren’t travel blogs supposed to be written by hippies that don’t have jobs and live in hostels?!” Well don’t you worry, we are working on making that happen! Although we hope to become full time travelers in the next 1-2 years, this site is not necessarily aimed at people that want to travel full time.
Our hope is not that you quit your job and become a long haired, bearded, Volkswagen van driving hippy. Instead, our hope is that after reading our stories you are more inspired to live a more fulfilling life from 5pm-9am!
Why such the emphasis on how ordinary we are? Although we love reading travel blogs, it is easy to feel disconnected from the writers at times. It seems as though they are leading such extraordinary lives that they are somehow doing something that is unreachable to the “average” person.

We are here to prove that wrong. We are here to tell you that even if you work a full-time job and only get two weeks of vacation each year-you still have the power to design an adventurous life for yourself. Afterall, that is exactly where we started before leaving it all behind to live la vida loca!
After having several caffeine induced conversations about how people should travel more and shift their priorities in a way that will lead to a more fulfilling life, we decided to share our
stories with you.
Our purpose in creating Kinetic Kennons is to share our stories of travels, adventures, and funny mishaps and to inspire others to design a life full of exploration. Throughout this site you will find posts about how to go on a cheap weekend trip, funny stories such as the time Hillary forgot to update her passport before an international trip, and inspirational rants on why you should lead a more adventurous life

While I constantly try to find the positives in every place I visit, there are few places that I just simply didn't enjoy.

The country of Brunei is one of them.

I went to Brunei back in 2014, three years before I made videos, but my negative experiences in the country have stuck in my mind ever since. That, combined with its absurd human rights laws such as stoning to death LGBT members, I was pushed to make this video.

Our 5 BIGGEST MISTAKES when moving to MEXICO (and what we did right)

Two years ago, we moved from the US to Mexico. These were our biggest mistakes the things we did right.
►Learn Spanish like us!

Despite all our planning and preparations for our move to Mexico, we still made some pretty significant errors. After reflecting on the whole experience, we realize we made 5 big mistakes when moving to Mexico.

Also, we're going to include 9 things that we did right when it came to moving to Mexico. Ultimately, we're sharing all of this today so hopefully other US citizens relocating to Mexico can learn from our successes and avoid our mistakes.

ABOUT US (MADDIE & JORDAN)
In January 2018, we sold everything we owned in the US (except our husky Laska & what fit in our tiny, tangerine Prius C3) to travel the world—starting with Mexico. Since then, we've been making travel videos about our life in Mexico and the new experiences we encounter while traveling the world. If you'd like to join our shenanigans, subscribe to our YouTube channel. You can also poke around our social media to find out what we’re up to each week.

Is It Safe To Travel In Mexico? Exploring A Mexican Town

this is one of the most dangerous places in mexico?!?

Is Mexico dangerous? We spent 4 days in a DANGER ZONE in Mexico with another YouTube channel to find out.
► We offer Tangerine Travels perks here:

In today's video, we take you along for our 4-day adventures in the Pueblo Magico - Comala, Colima, Mexico. PLUS our 2nd collaboration with another YouTube channel, Spanish and Go! You can find Jim and May's channel here:

How dangerous is Mexico? The US State Department considers Colima Mexico to be a Level 4: DO NOT TRAVEL Zone. Many people told us the danger threats in Mexico were not to be taken lightly, especially in Colima.

Find out what we thought of the Pueblo Magico Mexico (magic town in Mexico), Comala and also our thoughts on what some say is the most dangerous place in Mexico. What we can say is that we aren't quite sure why this is a city no gringo will visit.

We get asked all the time: Is Mexico safe? Well, in this video we chat about the real dangers you might face in Mexico and how safe or dangerous the country and state of Colima actually are. Spoiler alert - the most dangerous thing in Colima is probably the volcano, which is the most active volcano in Mexico.

During our time in Colima, we stayed at Hotel Posada Comala which we thought was a great budget option:

Our WORST Experience in Mexico! Our baby was attacked.

We've been traveling in Mexico for 7 months now with our dog, Laska. This is the worst experience yet.
►Laska treat fund:

We'll admit, if this is the worst thing that's happened during our Mexico travels, we're not doing too shabby. Still, we are saddened by what happened at the Mexico dog boarding facility in Ajijic, Jalisco.
Today, we explain the whole dog boarding situation and about our first time at a veterinarian in Mexico plus we'll talk about Mexico veterinarian prices in the Lake Chapala area.

If you're considering becoming an expat and moving to Mexico, you might have a lot of questions - especially if you're bringing your dog or other pets with you.

If you're wondering what it's like bringing your dogs to México, we did an entire video on this topic a while back so you might want to check that out:

What is Cinco de Mayo? A Brief History & Facts About Cinco De Mayo - ETRAFFIC

A Brief History & Facts About Cinco De Mayo

Cinco de Mayo on Fifth of May is a commemoration of the victory of an outnumbered army of Mexicans over the French forces at the Battle of Puebla that took place May 5, 1862.

The triumph of the Mexicans proved to the world that their will to defend their nation’s sovereignty would prevail against a powerful foreign invader.

It is often mistaken as Mexico’s Independence Day, which, on the other hand, is celebrated every 16th of September.

Though Cinco de Mayo has become a relatively minor event in Mexico today, the United States of America significantly celebrates it by highlighting the Mexican-American culture.

It’s significance to world history is more than about having a day dedicated to feasting on Mexican Food, getting Margarita happy, and wearing loud sombreros; so to give you a better understanding of what Cinco de Mayo is all about,

Let’s take you back to where and how it all began - The American Civil War, experienced by the Latinos.

The Early 1860’s became witness to the time Mexico had become greatly indebted to France, Britain and Spain as a result of the Mexican-American War and Reform War.

Mexican President Benito Juárez suspended the payment of Mexico’s foreign debts for 2 years and only France turned down the notion for a negotiation.

Napoleon III, then ruler of France, saw this as an opportunity to build The Second Mexican Empire in Mexico with France reaping the benefits.

During the latter part of 1861, France’s fleet attacked Veracruz and halted Juarez and his government.

In May 1862, The French force led by General Charles de Lorencez attacked Mexico City but were resisted by General Ignacio Zaragoza’s strong-willed Mexican troops near Puebla de los Angeles.

2,000 poorly-equipped Mexican fighters stood against the 6,000 well-armed French men, known as “the world’s premier army”.

Nearly 500 French soldiers and fewer than 100 Mexicans had been killed in the battle that went on from dawn til dusk. Sensing the obvious defeat, the French force retreated.

Mexico’s determination, unity and patriotism won over France’s brutal force. A much-needed morale boost not only to the Mexican army but to Mexico as a nation.

There’s so much to tell about what took place in Puebla but what needs to be remembered has probably been forgotten by most of those who should be passing the story on.

Mexico may have lost battles after that great victory, but Cinco de Mayo will always be a reminder to everyone that a grain of hope, no matter how small and insignificant to others, can make the impossible, possible.

Now that you know what you need to know,

Enjoy that Mexican feast!
Down that shot of tequila!
And Wear that Mexican sombrero loud and proud!

Because it is a HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!

The DARK SIDE of PUERTO VALLARTA

We absolutely love the country of Mexico, but we were shocked by the things no one told us about Old Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

There are a lot of great things about PV but we think it's a city that's just not right for us. Since living in Mexico, we've visited quite a few cities as expats in Mexico and Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco might be our least favorite of them all.

Of course, we have different criteria than you when it comes to what exactly makes a city great, so watch this Puerto Vallarta blog and decide for yourself if you might be able to look past the things that we didn't like.

Are you wondering what life in Puerto Vallarta México is like? Everyone says great things about it but what's the ugly side of Puerto Vallarta? Here's our non-expert opinion as expats in PV.
