Meanwhile in the Bokeo Nature Reserve
From tree house 3 in the Bokeo Nature Reserve, 2 Australians, 2 Dutch and I rang in the New Year. As part of the Gibbon Experience, and eco tour program established to fight poaching in northern Laos, we slept 150 feet above the ground, zip lined across valleys, met two amazing tour guides, and heard the calls of the gibbons. We also ate a lot of rice.

What Is the Gibbon Experience Like in Laos? A Zipline Tour of the Bokeo Nature Reserve
The Gibbon Experience in Laos is one of the most popular tours in the northern region of the country. This ecotourism activity is touted by the guidebooks, but some reviewers are less than impressed with the sheer amount of nature you handle when you live in the jungle and zipline through the forests.
This posts looks closely at if you should take the Gibbon Experience tour:
My first answer is: YES! I think it's one of the most fun, interesting, and in-touch with nature activities I've yet done. And yet, it's not ideal for all travelers. The huts are basic and you will spend two nights living in the jungle with tree rats and spiders nearby. The nets over the beds mostly keep them at bay, but you are literally in a tree, so you have to be comfortable with a few creepy crawlies or you won't get much sleep.
The views from the ziplines are some of the best in the world though. I've visited ziplines in Thailand, and these easily are better. Not only are the ziplines long, but they are very high off the ground. The best ones in the forest allowed us to soar for ages high above the jungle canopy. In the mornings, the songs from the gibbon monkeys woke us from our sleep. It was pretty magical.
