VISIT THE RIO DULCE - Guatemala (2023 Travel Guide in 4K )

Join us as we travel through Central America. This time we dive into the sweet river, aka fresh water, here in the Rio Dulce, Guatemala. A wonderful, tropical getaway for water enthusiasts; life here is lived on and around the water! Famous as a haven safe from annual hurricanes, sailors gather here June to December. It is also a great stop along the way if you are heading to the ancient ruins of Tikal in the north of the country.

We check out the largest bridge in Guatemala, a 16th century fortress and castle that had several run-ins with pirates, a tranquil lake with manatees and shy crocodiles and some really good food and cold drinks on the many dock restaurants. We'll talk about accommodations and how to get here as well.

THE BEST HURRICANE HOLE IN THE CARIBBEAN - Rio Dulce, Guatemala - Ep 33

In this episode we take you on an incredible journey up the Rio Dulce river in Guatemala, to haul Parlay out for the first time since buying her after hurricane Irma. The Rio is lined with 300ft cliffs and we send the drone up to capture some amazing footage of Mother Nature in all her glory.

SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. Colin and his friend spent 4 months getting her seaworthy, before setting sail across the Caribbean. Follow our journey as we continue to fix her and eventually circumnavigate the globe!

Breathtaking Rio Dulce & Livingston - ADVENTURE Time In Guatemala

Kayaking beautiful Rio Dulce and we LOSE THE PADDLE! The easy kayaking experience got a bit hairy and we weren't sure if we were going to make it.

We were staying in an amazing riverside jungle lodge in Rio Dulce, Guatemala called Casa Perico, run by a Swiss guy so you know everything will be well organized.

We spent 5 days here, lounging around, swimming, kayaking and relaxing. This place felt really tranquil and got us relaxed in no time.

We really enjoyed the kayaking in the mangroves on the side rivers of the Rio Dulce and seeing the wildlife there. If you visit Guatemala, you should definetely come to Rio Dulce.

After a wild boat ride, we also went to Livingston, home to the Garifuna people. Their ancestry goes back to Africa. It is a super relaxed beachside town right on the Carribean coast.

It was a really cool experience seeing the local culture and customs there. They really know how to party and the disco on the beach had the fiesta going!

Into the Rio Dulce (Sea Change - Chapter 2)

Hello again. Welcome to Guatemala! Our enchantment with the land of the Maya held us here longer than we had first expected. It brought us to remote areas and introduced us to new friends, but not without any difficulty. So come sail with us up the Rio Dulce where we find ourselves welcome visitors among cultures that are at once both foreign and familiar.

Karibikfeeling in Rio Dulce & Livingston • Guatemala | Weltreise Vlog #07

Rio Dulce and a boat trip to Livingston. Two Guatemala highlights

What to do in Rio Dulce. We have found yet another wonderful part of Guatemala, on Lake Izabal.
In today’s video, we are camped at Markus Vogel’s beautiful slice of paradise, directly on the lake. We take numerous excursions to the surrounding area, including ‘Castillo San Felipe’, Finca Paraiso (an amazing hot waterfall) and a boat trip to the unique Garifuna town of Livingston. As well as eating the famous ‘Tapado’, our guide makes sure we see the best of the area with stops made to natural hot pools and Playa Blanca on the way.

Ep.204 Leaving Rio Dulce - Guatemala

Sorry for losing a week, as you may know San Blas its not know for having much phone service aka internet. We hope this video makes it for the lost week.
Margarida has gone for family reasons and I find 2 patreons to come and help me sail to Panama. Dougy is a Canadian who has raced very small boats but Adam is new to the game and wishes to know what it is all about. We leave the beautiful Rio going again through the magnificent gorges and check out of Livingston, at the mouth of the Rio Dulce. But getting across the bar is another story with us standing a very good chance of not making it due to our 6 feet 4 inch draft.
Before we leave the Rio, I give some tips to cruisers who may wish to visit Rio Dulce to make it a little easier.

Give it thumbs a up if you liked this episode!

Rio Dulce, Guatemala

In this video we were taken by boat along the Rio Dulce (Guatemala) to Ak'Tenamit. Ak’ Tenamit is an indigenous community development organization that promotes long-term solutions to poverty through education, health, income generation and cultural programs run by and for the Q’eqchi Maya supported by the Guatemalan Tomorrow Fund, a US based non-profit (501 C-3) that raises funds for Ak’ Tenamit. During the journey there and back we saw many beautiful bird, the images are mesmerizing.

Rio Dulce Guatemala | Jewel of the Guatemalan Caribbean | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids

Welcome to the wonderful Rio Dulce, an extraordinary river in Guatemala!

Did you know that the movie “The New Adventures of Tarzan” was entirely filmed here in 1935? The beautiful rainforest you see in the movie is hidden in Guatemala and still well-preserved. To get a good shot of the forest they had to use some locations using the railroad service in Guatemala.

It is a spectacular place rich with flora and fauna, great views, folklore, beaches, and traditional locals. Being so breath-taking, many people call it the jewel of the Guatemalan Caribbean. A great place where you can spend the most peaceful time with the family.

Being a part of a lake and river system known as the department of Izabal, it is a great sailboat cruising destination. Rio Dulce flows out of the Lake Izabal and is soon spanned by one of the biggest bridges in Central America.

On one side of the bridge is the town El Relleno and a nearby orphanage Casa Guatemala that provides children with education and nourishment. On the other side is the town of Fronteras. It is considered to be the center of Rio Dulce, sometimes called by the same name, and many people arrive by canoes to visit the town because it contains a local vegetable market.

Enjoy the video and be sure to let us know where you’re watching from!

After 6 days of travel, we are finally arriving in the Rio Dulce and are looking forward to 5 months of “staying put”. Today’s video will show the journey from Cayo Quemado to the Rio and a first walk through the town of Rio Dulce. We also get some much needed groceries at La Torre and some steaks for Paul’s final dinner with us. Paul also bought his bus ticket to Guatemala City. And, we had a surprise welcome from the May flies and a 3-hour post visit clean up! What a mess!

NEW TO OUR CHANNEL?
We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our NEW life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we have very little sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call home. After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia.

So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too!

As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures!

Living Aboard on the Rio Dulce in Guatemala Ep 8

In this episode we learn how to live in the remote region of the Rio Dulce, Guatemala. Waiting for hurricane season to pass means going about every day life, rain or shine, over the course of 6 months. Many cruisers use this time to make improvements to their boat and get involved in the local community by volunteering with several local charities. We also explore the El Boqueron canyon, the Shaman Tower, the Castillo San Felipe de Lara and Cayo Quemado.
