Inside the Deepest Point in the Rift Valley Crack in Nakuru ????‍♂️

So we went on an expedition inside the large crack in a farm in Kiamunyi, Nakuru. We trekked from the shallow end to the deepest point, which we found to be approximately 26ft / 8 metres. The largest width is about 50ft / 15 metres. It was a bit nervous at first but we overcame the small challenge anyway.
Find out more in the video tour.
Meanwhile, here's another look outside the crack -

The Forest in the Rift Valley - Yes There Are Trees in Iceland

I got this tree question very often during the Geldingadalir eruption or if there are any trees on the Reykjanes Peninsula, the youngest part of Iceland. The short answer is yes so I'm also using the chance to show you a strange rift valley just by the highway to Keflavík Int. Airport but it provides the largest forest on the peninsula with some shelter from the northern winds. Have fun and here are some related links:

The nearby town, Vogar.

EXPLORING The Great Rift Valley - Kenya // Overlanding series EP.38

We prepare the car in Nairobi for the New Year´s and continue towards The Great Rift Valley, where Africa is splitting in two.

We stayed at Jungle Junction campsite in Nairobi, very famous in the overland community. We repair the car and prepare it for our next destination.
The Great Rift Valley, with many volcanoes and beautiful, is a must-see in Kenya. We pass next to Volcanoes like Mt Longonot or Suswa and reach lake Navaisha, fishing center.
It is too busy so we decide to visit lake Oloiden, which is very relaxed and enjoy the company of Pelicans and even Hippos at night.
We continue towards lake Elementaita, full of flamingos. we stay a couple of hours in one of the most epic settings we have seen in Africa.
Our last stop is lake Baringo. We went to the not developed side of the lake and had an unexpected visit in the morning. Find out at the end!

Enjoy the Ride!

The Lakes Of The Great Rift Valley Travel Guide (East Africa) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Documentary about the Lakes of the Great rift Valley in East Africa.
The Great Rift Valley is part of a huge geological fault in East Africa. This fascinating deep scar in the Earth’s crust that divides Kenya in a north-south direction, extends for nine thousand kilometres within a wild and seemingly endless landscape. The fault is particularly famous for its soda, alkaline and freshwater lakes such as Lake Naivasha that is located a hundred kilometres from Nairobi. As with many other lakes in the Great Rift Valley, with more than four hundred bird species Lake Naivasha is a true paradise among ornithologists. The tranquillity of the lake can be quite deceptive and the Massai name of the lake, En-Aiposha, meaning ‘back and forth’, is an indication of how turbulent Naivasha can sometimes be. A friendly welcome awaits visitors to Crescent Island at the southern end of Lake Naivasha. This idyllic island is located on the edge of a submerged volcanic crater and as there are no dangerous animals on the island it can be explored at leisure. Lake Nakuru’s main attraction is its flamingo population. Up to two million of these birds once lived here and even today they have transformed the lake into a mass of dazzling colour. Cormorants, heron and pelican are among the most important birds on Lake Nakuru. They each survive on fish of which the lake has an abundant supply. Located below the six hundred metre high Laikipia Escarpment, Lake Bogoria is the most spectacular lake in the Great Rift Valley. As with most lakes in this region Lake Bogoria is alkaline due to its lack of outlets yet at the same time it is paradise for the flamingo. The fascinating lakes of the Great Rift Valley are one of the most outstanding highlights of Kenya’s landscape and one of the most spectacular areas on the entire African continent.

Africa's Great Rift Valley or East African Rift - Hell's Gate National Park, Kenya.

Africa's Great Rift Valley or East African Rift - Hell's Gate National Park, Kenya. The Great Rift Valley that runs for some 7 000km along the eastern side of Africa is a bit of a misnomer. It is more accurately called the East African Rift and while it was originally thought to be one continuous fault line that extended from Lebanon to Mozambique, it has been established that the rift system consists of three microplates, the Victoria Microplate to the north, and the Rovuma and Lwandle microplates to the south.

We filmed this video while working on a book called African Icons and stayed at The Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort in Kenya. We visited Hell's Gate National Park that lies to the south of Lake Naivasha in Kenya and took in the wildlife and wonderful scenery including the Fischer's Tower and Central Tower columns, and Hell's Gate Gorge.

Following heavy rains in Kenya, a great section of land in Kiamunyi, Nakuru has continued to split and it's now becoming deeper and wider by day. The crack has been around for a few years now but today the width is much more expansive. It has caused a lot of waste to the land owners of this area in Nakuru.
Are the end of days near? Is it negligence by local authorities? It is an unstoppable natural disaster?

Through the Rift Valley

Avoid This While Visiting the Huge Rift Valley Crack in Nakuru | Safety Measures

While the massive crack on earth in Nakuru has become a tourist site, people need to observe safety measures while visiting the area.
These are just some don'ts:
- Avoid walking near the trench, you may step on loose soil and slide into the gulley.
- Avoid going inside the crack, especially in the deepest part.
- Avoid walking along the side while it rains. You may slip into the crack and drown in the water running through.
- Don't approach the area during heavy rains.
Just a few precautions.

But before we begin, make sure to hit that subscribe button and ring the notification bell, ensuring you never miss out on our thrilling expeditions. Without further ado, let's dive into the geological wonders of the Great Rift Valley!
In this presentation, I will inform you about.
1. The nature of rift valley or Great Rift Valley or East African Rift valley
2. Competing theories on geologic evolution of East African Rift
3. Volcanism and seismicity in East African Rift
4. Petrology or the compositions, structures, and origins of rocks in East African Rift
5. Effect of East African Rift on climate.
6. Biodiversity and Ecosystems in the East African Rift. And finally cultural Significance and Human evolution of East African Rift. As we wrap up our

1. A rift valley is a linear valley with parallel and almost vertical sides, which has fallen owing to a series of parallel faults. The typical morphology is characterized by a valley floor, between 19 and 62 km wide, separated from the surrounding plateaus by huge scarps that may vary in height from a few hundreds to a few thousands of meters.
2. The Great Rift Valley is a series of contiguous geographic trenches or depressions, approximately 7,000 kilometres or (4,300 mi) in total length, that runs from Lebanon in Asia to Mozambique in Southeast Africa.
3. The term Great Rift Valley is most often used to refer to the valley of the East African Rift, the divergent plate boundary which extends from the Afar Triple Junction southward through eastern Africa, and is in the process of splitting the African Plate into two new and separate plates. Geologists generally refer to these evolving plates as the Nubian Plate and the Somali Plate. Several deep, elongated lakes, called ribbon lakes, exist on the floor of this rift valley: Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika are examples of such lakes.
4. Competing theories on geologic evolution of East African Rift. There are three competing theories on the geologic evolution of the East African Rift System:
a. The first theory on geologic evolution of East African Rift is Isotope geochemistry. It suggests that the East African Rift began as a plume-driven uplift, followed by lithospheric thinning and crustal extension.
b. The second theory on geologic evolution of East African Rift is Seismic tomography. It suggests that the East African Rift was initiated by mantle flow.
c. The third theory on geologic evolution of East African Rift is Geodynamical modeling. It suggests that the East African Rift is the result of a combination of plume uplift and mantle flow.
5. The East African Rift System is a complex and dynamic system that has been evolving for millions of years. The rift zone has been the site of numerous volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and other geologic events. The East African Rift is also an important habitat for a variety of plants and animals.
6. Petrology or the compositions, structures, and origins of rocks in East African Rift. The East African Rift System is characterized by a variety of rock types, including basalts, trachytes, rhyolites, and granites. The rift zone is also home to a number of mineral deposits, including gold, copper, and platinum.
7. Volcanism and seismicity in East African Rift. The East African Rift System is one of the most active volcanic regions in the world. The rift zone is home to a number of volcanoes, including Mount Kilimanjaro, Erta Ale, and Mount Nyamuragira. The East African Rift is also a seismically active region, with numerous earthquakes occurring each year.
8. Effect of East African Rift on climate. The East African Rift System has had a significant impact on the climate of East Africa. The rift zone has created a number of topographic barriers that have affected the movement of air and water masses. The East African Rift has also been the site of a number of volcanic eruptions that have released large amounts of ash and gases into the atmosphere.
9. Biodiversity and Ecosystems in the East African Rift. Beyond the geological wonders, the Great Rift Valley is a living, breathing ecosystem, home to a remarkable array of flora and fauna. Its diverse environments house iconic wildlife and vibrant plant life found nowhere else on Earth. Let's delve into the rich biodiversity that thrives in this geological paradise, exploring the intricate web of life that calls the Great Rift Valley home.
