Experience the Majesty of El Escorial: Madrid's Best Day Trip

El Escorial, a historical residence of the King of Spain, rests 4 kilometers up the valley from the town of El Escorial and approximately 45 kilometers northwest of the Spanish capital, Madrid.

Our journey took us on a local train from Madrid to El Escorial, making for a delightful short day-trip to this unique Spanish Royal site boasting over 500 years of history. Constructed between 1563 and 1584 under the decree of King Philip II, El Escorial stands as the largest Renaissance building globally, encompassing roles as both a Spanish royal palace and an extensive library collection within a monastery. Composed primarily of local Gray granite, it assumes the form of a colossal quadrangle, accompanied by a meticulously designed adjacent garden. Though our visit revealed that the royal palace and monastery were closed for maintenance, we reveled in the serene surroundings on this scorching day, relishing tranquility as we strolled through the historical site before returning to Madrid. In 1984, El Escorial earned the prestigious designation of a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, a testament to its enduring cultural significance.

Madrid ☔ Alcala st to majesty of RETIRO park ☔ RAIN WALK | ASMR [4K] SPAIN (March 3, 2022)

A rain walk in Madrid, Spain, down the busy Alcalá street, to the majestic El Retiro park, where we will experience a totally different and relaxing environment. There we will enjoy the tranquility and solemnity of this historical park practically empty for ourselves, only with the company of the sound of our steps and the raindrops on the umbrella.
It is recommended to activate 4k playback and use headphones, for a better perception of the surrounding ambient sound. Also be sure to turn on closed captions [CC] to read comments and details of the walk!

25:22 El Retiro - ASMR rain walk

Calle de Alcalá is one of the oldest streets in the city. It was the old road which led to the city of Alcalá de Henares (from which it takes the name) and continued to Aragón. Calle de Alcalá is among the longest streets in Madrid. It starts at the Puerta del Sol and goes on for 11 km, to the northeastern outskirts of the city. Henry David Inglis described it in 1837 as long, of superb width, and flanked by a splendid range of unequal buildings. Today we will walk through its part that runs through the Salamanca district.

The Retiro or Buen Retiro park is a historic garden in Madrid (Spain) that was built in the first half of the 17th century for the enjoyment of the monarch Felipe IV; but it was not until the year 1767 during the reign of Carlos III, that it became an urban park, allowing the public to enter. It is considered one of the main tourist attractions in the city of Madrid, due to its architectural, sculptural and landscape ensemble, among other things. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on July 25, 2021, as Landscape of Arts and Sciences.

Want more El Retiro park? Check out this commented walk with historical facts and curiosities:

The idea of the channel is to offer immersive virtual walks filmed from a subjective point of view ( POV ) in 4k on foot, by bike... and also places where you can simply stop to rest and relax listening to the ambient and nature sounds.
