The sea created us say the Garifuna. These descendants of slaves live today in tightly bound communities away from the noise of the world, along the coast of Honduras. One foot in the sea, the other in the ground, united, the Garifuna have never forgotten their African roots and perpetuate their traditions against all odds.

BELIZE The Hidden Gem Of Central America

There’s a unique energy that you experience when you come here, and I now understand why Belizeans are so proud of their nation. It’s a combination of appreciating the nation’s deep and proud history, incredible culinary experiences that are deeply connected to the country’s history & a warm and welcoming society of people. It’s also home to some of the bluest of waters, world-class dense jungles, and many natural landmarks like the world’s largest LIVING barrier reef (since the deterioration of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef). It’s a scuba’s and snorkeler's dream!

It’s certainly a place worth investing time and resources in, which I believe has the potential to come back 10-fold.
What I love most about our time here so far are little things like good wifi so I can work. There is room for improvement in some areas but this place’s potential is undeniable.
To put it into context, it reminds me of Bali 10 years ago when I first started traveling there

A Day in The Life: Of a Caribbean Fisherman on Big Corn Island, Nicaragua

Ever wondered how the locals catch their fish in the Caribbean? We spent some days hanging out with our neighbor Elton, who took us out in his homemade canoe and showed us the local way. The result; one shark, countless snapper and some deep fried fish in fresh coconut oil. Read the full story at;

A Perfect Day of Permit Fishing in San Pedro, Belize

There's a rumor about fly fishing for permit. I suspect you've heard it by now. They are known for being erratically elusive, painfully selective of their prey, and seriously spooky in shallow water. Well, now we have documentation to prove that none of that is true, whatsoever...at least in San Pedro, Belize anyway. :)

A year ago today, I had the absolute privilege of joining a legendary fly fishing duo who have caught over 700 permit on fly. That's right. SEVEN HUNDRED permit on fly. It is an accomplishment that could not have happened anywhere else in the world, or been achieved by anyone else.

Fly fishing for permit in San Pedro, Belize is one of the most satisfying angling adventures you can pursue. The endless flats behind Ambergris Caye afford visiting fishermen a chance to see schools of fish, comfortably feeding in the clearest water in the Caribbean. These fish are most unlike their American counterparts, in that it's rare they turn away from a feeding opportunity on the flats. If fly fishing for permit is an endeavor you aspire to enjoy - make a trip to San Pedro, Belize your top priority. There is simply no where else on earth that surpasses it.

We finished off this trip with a spectacular private island beach BBQ, to celebrate the three permit we caught on fly that day. An epic fly fishing adventure followed by a lobster BBQ on an idyllic island? It really doesn't get any better.

With love, respect, and admiration for all my Belize friends who made this perfect day a reality - thank you!!!

Belize: The wonders of a wild and impenetrable land I WIDE

On the borders of Mexico and Guatemala lies a wild and impenetrable land.

Belize used to be the land of a legendary empire: the Mayas. Some legacy of their presence still remains. Accompanied by local guides, tourists can marvel at the remnants of their constructions hidden in the country’s mysterious forests.

With nearly a third of the country’s forests now protected, the Mayas’ heritage is not the only treasures to be found in the jungle. 250 000 hectares of rainforest, palm trees, tropical cedars and mahogany classified as nature reserves hosts various native animals. Another unmissable Belize's wonder is the Blue Hole, one of the largest marine holes in the world with a width of 300m and a depth of 140m.

South America's Most Stunning Environments | Somewhere On Earth Marathon

Starting off in Patagonia, a vast mineral land on the southern most tip of southern America shared by Argentina and Chile, this land is full of changing environments like grassland, glaciers, deserts, and rainforests. We meet Lorenzo, who will show us the fascinating life of the massive Condor bird. In the beautiful and small country of Costa Rica we meet Eladio, who has chosen to make a new life for himself between the volcanoes and the sea. And in Belize we find wildlife veterinarian Isabel who takes us all around the island and saves animals from both the rainforest and the sea. Finally ending in America we hear from Richard, running the family ranch, who likes to stay close to the nature of Wyoming he grew up in, keeping with the cowboy tradition.

West African Countries Fighting To Keep Their Traditions Alive: Part 1 | Today In Africa | TRACKS

Of all of West Africa, Senegal is probably the country that has been affected the most my environmental chances that are impacting the oceans. Subject to the wrath of Mother Nature, the seafaring people have a dilemma to face, should they take to the open seas, or stay put?
Elsewhere, wedged between the vast wildernesses of the Atlantic and the Sahara, Mauritania was born of sand and wind. In order to survive there, people became nomads. A tough way of life, this forged the identity of their nation, however this is now disappearing.

After 15 years of traveling the world as a content creator, I finally made it to my 97th country, Belize! At just a two-hour flight from my hometown of Miami, it’s a wonder I’d never made it there before now, but now, I was ready to explore the country in-depth!

???????? Grenada Travel Series:

TAYSHA’S GRILL: At this small shop near the airport, I tried the national dish (rice and beans) with stewed chicken, plantains, macaroni salad, pickled onions with habaneros, and a Belikin beer!

ORIGINAL #1 PUPESERIA SALVADOREÑO: Here, I tried freshly-made mozzarella cheese pupusas topped with cabbage and tomato sauce. The habañero hot sauce and roasted garlic hot sauce are extremely hot!

NERI’S TACOS: Here, I had a fish empanada, as well as garnachas (fried, puffy tortillas topped with beans, cheese, and chicken). I washed it down with some horchata, a rice milk drink with sugar and cinnamon.

BLACK & WHITE GARIFUNA RESTAURANT: Here, I had some strong, herbal rum!

STREET VENDOR: We came across a vendor selling street tacos. The beef with chilies, lettuce, guacamole, and cheese was an amazing fusion of Latin foods!

PARADISE ICE CREAM: Here, I ended my day with their incredible Chocolate Suicide flavor on a waffle cone. The dark chocolate was excellent and a refreshing way to end my street food tour of San Pedro!

Why I Love Living in Belize

With over 200 pristine cayes (islands) scattered along Belize’s coastline—each surrounded by crystal clear, turquoise seawater that teems with brilliant fish, coral, and sponges.A favorite pastime on the cayes is to relax in a hammock, under a gently swaying coconut palm, while sipping an icy Belikin beer, or a pina colada.

Loving Belize 1 - Tourist Advice, Corozal, Consejo, Sarteneja. - GoPro HD

Welcome to a new documentary series about Belize and the amazing, diverse, beautiful, people that live there.

Belize is a small country in Central America, please google the country. Recently there has been negative and distorted Media and few badly made documentaries which, because of the size of this country, has affected not only the tourism but also the lives of the people, by knocking they confidence down.

My name is Rose Robin, I will be making a documentary series in Belize for about one year. Giving you a look through the key hole. I will be interviewing people for all walks of life, but I will not make me own comments, I leave it to you to make up your own minds.

I will introduce you to many people, artists, musicians, dancers, fishermen, coconut oil makers, restaurant owners, divers, boat makers, politicians, and more. Not only will I interview them but I will also film them going their jobs, locals and expatriates. I will be filming locals cooking local recipes. I will be going out for 7 days with the local fishermen and documenting just where that delicious fish that the tourist are eating in the restaurants comes from.

Please take the time to like this video, if you do... and send it on to you buddies, the more people who see this video, the more it will make a difference to the people talking about their lives, views, hopes and dreams.

State of the Planet's Oceans: Lessons in Success - The Gladden Spit Marine Reserve

In Gladden Spit, Belize the unregulated fishing of snapper and grouper before they could reproduce led to steep declines in their populations and drove away the whale sharks. Local officials created a sanctuary, Gladden Spit Marine Reserve, and began carefully monitoring the catch. Within a few years the fishery rebounded. And then the whale sharks returned and with them came a new source of income -- eco-tourism.

Matt Damon hosts The State of the Planet's Oceans as award-winning filmmakers Hal and Marilyn Weiner investigate the health and sustainability of the world's oceans and the issues affecting marine preserves, fisheries, and coastal ecosystems worldwide.
