The Unearthly Scenery of Dallol, Danakil Depression, Ethiopia [Amazing Places]

Dallol is the hottest inhabited area on Earth, and also one of the most remote places on Earth. It is located in a depression, at more than 100 meters bellow sea level. Dallol has one of the most unearthly sceneries on the planet, due to its acidic hot springs, sulphur, salt, iron oxide, and other minerals, small gas geysers and pools of acid.

Recorded February 2014 in HD with Panasonic TM900.

The Hottest Place on Earth | Danakil Depression - An Active Volcano

Also, a Gateway To Hell & Land of Human Origins

This place seems more alien than Earth-like. The Danakil Depression in Ethiopia is one of the hottest and harshest environments on Earth. Not only being the hottest place on the planet it is also one of the most remote, which is BELOW the sea level.

Also, a 3.2 million years old fossil of our human ancestor - Lucy was also found here.

A huge thanks to @AnkitBhatiaFilms and Anmol, without whom this video would have been incomplete :)

Danakil in Ethiopia - The hottest place on Earth

The Danakil Depression in Ethiopia is one of the most extreme places on Earth. It's a long drive from Mek'ele (Tigray) with a jeep caravan in the desert of remote Afar region. It's spectacular!

First of all, Dallol. Highly vulcanic, feels like walking on the planet Venus.

Second, Erta Ale. After a difficult climb with experienced guides, only possible after sunset because of the extreme heat during daytime, we reached the spectacular lava lake on top of the vulcano.

Last but not least, the camel caravans, transporting salt from the salt plains for hundreds of years.

Dallol, in the Danakil Depression, is the hottest year-round spot in the world. While a few places, in particular Death Valley (US) and Lut Desert (Iran) face even higher temperatures in summer, the average high temperature in January in Death Valley is for example just 19 degrees Celsius. However, Dallol has the hottest temperatures all year round with a minimum average high temperature in January of 36 degrees Celsius. Erta Ale is one of the only 7 persistent lava lakes in the world.

I visited the Danakil Depression with a friend in October 2016.

Journey into the Earth's Hell | Exploring the Danakil Depression | Rift Valley, Ethiopia

Hi guys,
this video is about my lifetime trip to the Danakil Depression in the Afar Region. It is one of Ethiopia and Africa's most dangerous but out-of-earth places. The bubbling volcano Erta Ale lights up the sky, sulphurous bumps of yellow twist into otherworldly shapes at Dallol and mirages of camels cross the Salt Lake Asale. Lying 119m below sea level, the Danakil Depression is Earth's hottest and most inhospitable place.

Danakil Depression, Dallol, travel in Ethiopia, salted basins, hot springs, lunar-like landscape

Danakil Depression, Dallol, Ethiopia, , salted basins, hot springs, lunar-like landscape, hottest place
Danakil Depression, Dallol, Ethiopia,

Positioned on the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea is the Danakil Depression. It’s officially one of driest and hottest places on Earth.

With temperatures that often reach 50+ degrees, it’s easy to see why. This is a surreal piece of real estate that’s strewn with active volcanoes, salted basins, hot springs, and a lava lake – all of which combine to create a very lunar-like landscape.

Sitting below sea level, it’s the lowest point in Africa and second in the world (after the Dead Sea).

Do a bit of planning before you go as the climate can be harsh if you aren’t prepared. But the beauty and mystery of this place make any preparation well worth it.

In this video, I am exploring arguably world's hottest place. where temperature reaches on excess of 60 degree centigrade during summers. it is called Danakil Depression. it is situated in the Afar region of Ethiopia.
you can read more about this place below:

The Danakil Depression in Ethiopia is a unique and extreme geological phenomenon, known for its harsh conditions and stunning landscapes. Here are 10 amazing facts about the Danakil Depression:

Extreme Temperatures: The Danakil Depression is one of the hottest places on Earth, with daytime temperatures often exceeding 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit). The combination of extreme heat and volcanic activity creates a challenging environment for both flora and fauna.

Afar Triangle: The depression is part of the larger Afar Triangle, a tectonic plate divergence zone where three plates (African, Arabian, and Somali) are pulling away from each other. This geological activity has resulted in the formation of deep rifts and volcanic features.

Dallol Volcano: Located in the northern part of the Danakil Depression, Dallol is a unique volcano known for its otherworldly landscapes and vibrant, colorful mineral deposits. It is one of the lowest subaerial volcanic vents on Earth.

Multicolored Hot Springs: Dallol is famous for its multicolored hot springs, which contain a variety of minerals and salts. The interaction of these minerals with the hot water produces a surreal display of colors, ranging from bright yellow and green to red and blue.

Potash Reserves: The Danakil Depression is home to significant salt flats and salt pans. The region contains large reserves of potash, a valuable mineral used in fertilizers. The extraction of potash is a major economic activity in the area.

Afar People: The Danakil Depression is inhabited by the Afar people, a semi-nomadic ethnic group well adapted to the challenging conditions of the region. They are known for their resilience and unique cultural practices.

Erta Ale Volcano: This active shield volcano is one of the few in the world with a persistent lava lake. The lava lake has been present since the early 20th century, making it a popular destination for adventure seekers and researchers.

Lowest Point in Africa: The Afar Depression, where the Danakil Depression is located, includes the Afar Triple Junction, which is one of the lowest points in Africa. The lowest point is the Dallol Depression, lying more than 100 meters below sea level.

Unique Flora and Fauna: Despite its extreme conditions, the Danakil Depression supports some hardy plant and animal life. Specialized microorganisms, bacteria, and extremophiles thrive in the high-temperature and high-salinity environments.

Challenges for Visitors: Visiting the Danakil Depression can be physically demanding due to the harsh climate, lack of infrastructure, and the need for specialized vehicles to navigate the rugged terrain. However, for those willing to brave the challenges, the area offers a truly unique and unforgettable experience.

????Trip to the Hottest Place on Earth (Dallol, Ethiopia) ????

This is a film about a trip to Dallol which is the hottest and also amongst the lowest place on the planet! Dallol is located in a badland desert area in northeastern Ethiopia on the border with Eritrea. This remote desert area is famed for it’s outer-worldly hydrothermal landscapes, salt lakes and salt flats. Although this is an unbelievably hard place to live, the local Afar people still call this area home and make daily excursions to the salt flats to mine the salt and transport it to market on camel caravans.

Highlights include:
???? Afar village of Hamed Ela.
???? The colourful alien landscape of the hydrothermal system at Dallol
???? Traditional salt mining on the vast salt flats of Lake Assale
???? Camel caravans on the salt flats

Dallol Ethiopia, the HOTTEST PLACE ON EARTH

The Danakil Depression is the hottest place on Earth in terms of year-round average temperatures. It is also one of the lowest places on the planet at 100 metres (330 ft) below sea level, and without rain for most of the year.
My Ethiopia was in October 2017 which the temperature was considered to be quite pleasant of a year but it was still so hot anyway.
During mid of a year, the temperature can be up to 50c or more.
