Al Baha ٱلْبَاحَة - You wont believe THIS is Saudi Arabia - Saudi Road Trip through the mountains

We went spent the day exploring some of the BEAUTIFUL outdoor spots around Al Baha. From forest parks to ancient villages, we soaked in all the amazing views we could. You might think that Saudi Arabia is all deserts, but Al Baha proves that's anything but true.

In Al Baha we visited, Raghadan Forest Park, hiked in Al Khulb Park, and explored the Al Atawilah/Algehad and Bani Mouhamad Villages.

On our way to Al Baha, we kicked off our Road Trip with a visit to Thee Ain Village and Jabal Shada.
You can watch that video here:

______

A B O U T U S
We’re Eric and Ashley, an American couple who has spent the last 5 years living and working in Saudi Arabia. We’ve traveled a TON in the time we’ve been here, but in the craziness of 2020 (and 2021), we decided to finally do some real exploring in the country we’re fortunate enough to call home for now.

As Saudi Arabia is finally opening up for tourism, we’re taking the chance to experience both the famous and off-the-beaten-path the Kingdom has to offer. Our goal is to show you the uniqueness of the country and inspire you to set out on your own adventures – whether in remote corners of the world or just down the road from your home.

Faifa in Jazan Province, Saudi Arabia

A detailed video of the drive up to and experience of Faifa in Jazan Province, Saudi Arabia.

Faifa, often written as Fayfa or even Fifa, is a refreshing lush green hill station built on mountain slopes with cool temperatures. I must admit not many people know about it even in Saudi Arabia. After living here for six years, I had never heard about it until I started planning this trip.

Driving from Jazan city, Faifa is 100 kms with an elevation gain of 1500m, more than 1000 meters in the last 30 kms to the top. Steep switch backs where one cannot and should not divert their concentration from driving to the views takes one to the hill station. Though Al Faifa looks like a single mountain, it is actually several hills wrapped around each other. At the top as I got out of my car, the first thing I noticed was the cool fresh air. Second was the green mountains all around me. From the top, one can notice the steep roads that connect the dwellings on these hills.

The mountains of Faifa are a part of the Sarawat range, one that runs parallel to the Red Sea coast and passes through the provinces of Hejaz, Aseer and Jazan (including Faifa) into Yemen. Though the range is mostly rocky and volcanic, it is alive and fertile at Faifa. The inhabitants of these slopes rely on its fertile soil to grow fruits, vegetables and even coffee. Some of these plants and its fruits can be found at the road side. The mountains receive sufficient rain fall in the monsoon season due to their location in the South, roughly 10 kms from Yemen border.

Faifa is also known to produce quality honey. Here at Faifa one can visit the traditional Souq such as the Nafi’a and Haqou markets where local, mostly organic products are available. The hill station is popular for its agricultural terraces and its heritage cylindrical houses.

AMAZING Al Bahah, Saudi Arabia: Ancient Mountain Village, Mega Zipline & Fireworks

In this video of Living the Jo life, we visit the Al Bahah region of Saudi Arabia on the 92nd Saudi National Day. It is a mountainous region with its capital, Al Bahah, located at approximately 2300 m above sea level. Al Bahah is 4.5 hrs drive from Jeddah. Our first stop was Raghdan Forest Park, which is located a few kilometers from the town center. The park is full of activities, including a 1 km long zipline, which we had to try out. After a quick check-in at our hotel, we went for a drive along the scenic King Fahd Road down to Thee Al Ain Historic Village. The historic village consists of 49 buildings dating back around 400 years. The picture-perfect setting of the village includes a lush green oasis at the bottom of the hill and a beautiful mountain backdrop. It is possible to walk into many of the historic buildings to explore their up to four storeys. After dinner, we walked up to Prince Hassam Park, which was full of people, food stalls and entertainment such singing, dancing and music. Prince Hassam Park provided a great vantage point for viewing the amazing display of fireworks in celebration of the Saudi National Day. We had a fantastic time in Al Bahah, and we can highly recommend a visit to this beautiful part of Saudi Arabia.

Unseen SAUDI ARABIA Village Food!! Whole Goat RICE PLATTER in Jazan (Yemen Border)!!

???????? Saudi Arabian Food Tour:
????️ Get Smoked Ghost Pepper:
???? Subscribe:

JAZAN, SAUDI ARABIA: High in the mountains of Saudi Arabia, in the very southwestern corner, on the border of Yemen, is Jazan province. It’s a unique part of Saudi Arabia, where some of the world’s most prized coffee in grown and where the mix of culture and food is unlike other parts of the country. Today we have the privilege to visit a local coffee farm where a local family will be cooking a full goat haneed in the backyard.

We began our journey from Jizan city, in the Jazan province of Saudi Arabia. The city is located on the Red Sea, yet just an hour drive away to Fayfa, and you’re transported high into the rugged green mountains that are famous for generations of coffee farming.

Coffee is more than just a drink here, it’s a symbol of hospitality and a gesture of welcome. The coffee is much different than your typical Americano - it’s roasted very lightly, and brewed with cardamom and saffron for a unique fragrance. Rather than using sugar, coffee is served black, but with dates so you can alternate between sips of coffee and sweet dates. The combination is perfect.

After a welcome and coffee, we lit the outdoor wood fire oven, and then took a tour of the farm to learn about the prized Khawlani coffee beans. The farming practice has been passed down for generations in this area. Along with coffee, there were many medical edible herbs throughout the mountain.

Back to the oven, we loaded up an entire goat, along with big handfuls of sour dough, scented with the aroma green leaves. The oven was closed tight for a couple of hours to seal in all the steam and smoke. This cooking technique is common in Saudi Arabia and really does a great job of smoking, baking, and steaming all at the same time.

The time finally came, and we dished out all the tender goat on the rice trays. There were also a number of side dishes, including fresh buttermilk served in a smoky wooden bowl, a variety of doughs served with ghee, and possibly the highlight for me; helba, a sudsy fenugreek sauce that’s definitely a unique flavor, and loved in this region.

It was a meal I’ll never forget, in this friendly coffee village in the mountains of Jazan!

Hisham:

Thank you to Visit Saudi Arabia for arranging my food trip to Saudi Arabia!

My 8-day Road Trip Adventure in Saudi Arabia #saudiarabia #roadtrip #2020 #2019 #adventure

March 16, 2020. It was the first week of the COVID-19 effect in Saudi Arabia. I and 3 of my friends agreed to take a road-tripping around Saudi Arabia. We left Riyadh City without a specific destination.

Al Souda is a tourist village in the Abha region of Saudi Arabia, located about 28 kilometres from the city of Abha. It is 3,015 metres above sea level, and its mountains are covered with dense juniper trees

The highest large city of Saudi Arabia
Abha is the capital of Aseer Province and has the 6th largest population in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is famous for being the highest large city of Saudi Arabia at over 2 200 meters, some parts of the city being even around 2 400 meters. With such an altitude it is not surprising that Abha benefits from milder climatic conditions that most the rest of the country with day temperatures ranging from 15°C to 35°C. What is more unexpected is that while the rest of the country has one rainy season in March and May, Aseer Province enjoys a second one in July and August thanks to the Indian monsoon that reaches the southwest of Saudi Arabia.

------
The rich history and culture of this extraordinary country have been shrouded beneath a veil of mystery. In an effort to open up and showcase its unique heritage, the Saudi Government has granted the national airline more tourist visas per country.

----
RIYADH (THE CAPITAL)
Located on the great limestone plateau of Najd, near the fertile bed of the Hanifah Valley. The Kingdom’s capital is a thriving and vibrant metropolis with many charming old souks.

----
JEDDAH (RED SEA MERMAID)
Home to the world’s highest fountain, Jeddah has grown from ancient origins into a dynamic commercial center. Its cool red sea breeze makes it one of the most hospitable and relaxed Saudi cities.

-----
FOR TRUE ROCK FANS
If you dig archeology you are in for a truly monumental trip. The ancient Kingdom is full of stunning archeological sites from the Byzantine, Nabatean, Umayyad and Abbasid periods.

-----
DIVE THE RED SEA
“Life abounds in bank after bank exuberant coral structures, second only to those of the Great Barrier Reef in extent and exceeding it perhaps in splendor” Jacques Cousteau on the red sea.

-----

Al Hasa
Located in the east of the Kingdom, Al Ahsa’s verdant lands are UNESCO-listed and home to one of the world’s largest natural oases. Amid the date palm groves, farmland, and natural springs, Al Ahsa houses historical sites that date back to the Neolithic era. If you thought that Saudi Arabia was all desert, this is the place to dispel you of that notion.

-----

Al Qarah
At just over 200 meters high, the limestone hills of Al Qarah offer a gentle climb, rewarded with spectacular views across the region. Take time to enjoy the vista, before exploring the hive of caves and passageways cut into the rock.

-----

Dougha Handmade Pottery Factory
For generations, local potters have been crafting works at the Dougha Handmade Pottery Factory, one of the oldest of its kind in the region. Try your hand at creating something of your own at the wheel, or pick up a souvenir to take home.

------

Awatha Mosque
Built by the indigenous Bani Abd al-Qays tribe, the Jawatha Mosque dates back to the seventh year of hijra and is believed to be the first developed in the Kingdom’s Eastern Province. While most of the original building has been lost, a restoration process means that prayers can once again be held there five times a day and all visitors are welcome.

The ULTIMATE SAUDI ROAD TRIP 2024! ????????

In 2022, what are the BEST PLACES to see in Saudi Arabia? In this video, I take you on our KSA Road Trip where we visit top Saudi tourist cities like Jeddah, Riyadh, Abha and Medina, the best places for tourism like AlUla, Rijal Alma and The Edge of the World as well as underrated attractions to visit like Abha, Wadi Lajab, Al Wabha Crater and Dharan al Janoob.

Watch as we experience incredible Muslim hospitality at almost every stop along the way, including a free tour of Wadi Lajab, free tea and coffee, and the most delicious Saudi Kabsa given to us by total strangers!

Here are excerpts from the transcript of the video, thanks so much for watching... Phil

Rijal Alma is one of the most historically important and beautiful villages in the Middle East and was, for centuries a regional trade center that connected Yemen to Makkah

Closer to Yemen lies Dhahran Al-Janub old town, another incredible example of mud-brick traditional construction.

In Wadi Lajab Canyon, we met these awesome guys who drove us in their 4x4 and gave us more tea, a free tour and dinner!

Our next stop was nearby Fayfa, a surprisingly green mountain town. This fairy-tale landscape can’t be Saudi Arabia, can it?

And about the monkeys… they were everywhere… even the gas stations. And they were NOT shy!

Riyadh is a sprawling metropolis. Here we checked out Fort Masmak, the birthplace of the modern Saudi nation. Kingdom Tower, stands over 300m high, and is the 2nd largest building in Saudi Arabia

“The Edge of the World” is one of the highlights of any trip to KSA.

In Jeddah we explored the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town which dates back over 1,000 years.
The area is known as the Gate to Mecca and is the starting place for millions of Muslims on their sacred pilgrimages to the holy city.

The Jeddah Corniche is a seaside walkway and home to the Al Rahma floating mosque, which for me, is the best place to watch the sunset.

The Al Wabha Crater is one of Saudi Arabia’s most unusual natural wonders.

Medina is the 2nd most holy city in Islam and home to the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi mosque. As a Non-Muslim I was forbidden from entering even the courtyard but I could still use my zoom lens to get a better look.

Al Ula (AlUla) is Saudi Arabia’s 1st UNESCO world heritage site. At Madain Saleh, Nabataean royalty were buried in rock-cut tombs. In the morning we took a walk through a green oasis, then we checked out Old Town AlUla, where 900 mud brick houses were inhabited for a thousand years.

On a helicopter ride, I got a birds eye view of mother nature’s best work, including the iconic “Elephant Rock”. In Dadan we saw incredible rock carvings and more tombs, some with lions guarding them

Phil

The Edge of the World

The Marble Village!‎ - Saudi Road Trip to Al Baha ٱلْبَاحَة Thee Ain Village

High above the coastal plains of western Saudi Arabia, the little town of Al Baha sits on edge of the Hijaz Mountains. Join us as we kick off a 3-week, 6400-kilometer road trip around Saudi Arabia - starting with our drive to Al Baha.

In this video, we make our way through Jeddah, have a quick break at everyone's favorite Saudi fast food joint (Al Baik), before visiting Jabal Shada and Thee Ain Village and then making our way up the windy road to Al Baha.

As Saudi Arabia is finally opening up for tourism, we’re taking the chance to experience both the famous and off-the-beaten path the Kingdom has to offer. Our goal is to show you the uniqueness of the country and inspire you to set out on your own adventures – whether in remote corners of the world or just down the road from your home.
