Surfing Mozambique - Epic Rights in Tofo (and Whalesharks!) ???????? | Stoked For Travel

Surfing Mozambique - where warm clear waters and tropical vibes meet reeling right hand point breaks and empty lineups.

Sure finding surf in Mozambique isn't the easiest thing - it's a total mission to get around, long drive times and you'll certainly need a 4x4 - but the reward is well worth it.

I spent 2 weeks in Tofo, Mozambique lapping up the good vibes, good waves and good times with the crew of Ticket To Ride on their 3 week Mozambique Surf Adventure and had an absolute blast.

Couple that with snorkelling with whale sharks and you have the perfect recipe for an epic surf trip!

Surfing Mozambique - Off The Beaten Track In Pomene ???????? (Epic Right Handers!) | Stoked For Travel

Thinking about surfing Mozambique?
Time to get off the beaten path for the ultimate Mozambique surf experience!

Surfing Mozambique is an adventure I'm not going to forget in a hurry and was definitely one of the best surf trips I've been on across the globe.
The mixture remote location (it took nearly 21 hours to reach there overland in a 4x4 from Durban in South Africa!), crystal clear warm waters and empty lineups all added up to a surf trip that I'd only dreamt about before!

We headed North from the more popular spot of Tofo (with another epic right hand point break) to a spot which although fickle can serve up some truly epic rides.

Our gamble paid off too - with 4 days of perfect offshore, clean conditions. Unfortunately the best of the waves aren't in the video as I was too busy surfing Mozambique to capture them!

Honestly surfing Mozambique went above and beyond my expectations and if you're keen to get well off the beaten track and try somewhere new I highly recommend it. Sure it's a bit of a logistical nightmare to organise, but the payoff is more than worth it!

Mozambique - Travel Tips for Surfers & Divers | TOFO & VILANCULOS

As a surfing and diving couple, we explored the southern coastline of Mozambique for 2 weeks. We stayed most of the time in Tofo and made a short trip to Vilanculos to end our trip. In this video we show you the beauty of the Bazaruto Archipelago, the red sand dunes, the two mile reef and some of the best dive and surf spots around Tofo like Tofinho. It should give you a good overview of the things to do, where to stay, where to eat, how to get around and what to take care of. Enjoy!

SURFING IN MOZAMBIQUE

How to stay safe surfing Tofinho Point Break. Tofo is paradise, with waters that mimic Hawaii and some great surf spots. Mozambique, a country bordering the ocean in East Africa has its fair share of point breaks. Some breaks are more challenging than others so please proceed with caution especially if exploring a new spot.
This is a surf guide to great surf spot in Tofo, Mozambique called Tofinho. Tofo is a small town on the east coast of Africa.
Some Hazards of Tofinho Point:
Shallow reef, rocks, Zambezi bull sharks (though attacks have not been reported) and currents

Thank you Sung Min Cho (Mini) for the amazing surf footage! On the way to the top man.
Thank you Darren for the tips on how to stay safe out there. Be confident in your ability before paddling out to this point break.

Dreamy Mozambique surf trip - surfing & diving in beautiful Tofo & Tofino - Africa Travel - Pollywog

Pollywog surf travel presents Mozambique. Book your trip with us now.

Mozambique is a dream tropical surf destination once simply must travel to. Just one of the many places to visit and surf in Africa and one of the many reasons why you should plan a surf trip to Africa. Africa is one of the last places on earth with pristine, untouched beaches and surf breaks, which makes it one of the best places to visit for a unique surf trip experience.

In this video, we head up to Tofo in the middle of Moz with South African surfers Luke Patterson and Tanika Hoffman to find untapped, rustic beauty and experience the true essence of Africa and of course to score some epic waves and see some incredible marine wildlife along the way.

The roads are mainly dirt, winding through endless palm trees. Even the roads in the village of Tofo are still dirt roads. It is pretty remote, but that adds to the charm. Still, the town has a great energy, with plenty of restaurants serving fresh fish and bars serving ice cold 2M beer!

Surfing in Mozambique is a throwback to the past. The waves are largely uncrowded and the ocean is teeming with wildlife. The main wave is Tofino a right had point break that cooks when the conditions are right. It is a pretty consistent wave too and its possible to surf Tofino all year round. Tofino is probably the most famed wave in Mozambique, along with Ponto do Ouro. The winter months (May, June, July) bring the bigger swells from the south, but Mozambique often receives cyclone swells in the summer (Feb, March) which can create incredible surf conditions. Many South African surfers will drive the long journey chasing cyclone swells up the coast.

Tofo, closer to town is a lot more sheltered and the more mellow wave is often good for longboarding or learning to surf. Tofo is also renowned for incredible diving, especially swimming with Whale sharks and Manta Rays.

Watch Luke Patterson getting barreled and Tanika Hoffman longboarding in Tofo. After a long day of surfing in the hot African sun, we sip on fresh coconuts and just relax, wearing boardshorts and bikini, this is the idyllic summer life. Tofo is a great place to chill out and unwind.

Further north, it gets even more rustic, but no less beautiful. The coast is dotted with great waves, but you need the right car to access them. Surfing in Mozambique is nothing short of an adventure. Places like Pomene are incredibly picturesque and so remote they don't have electricity, but that is one of the reasons to visit... they help you to connect with Africa.

A surf trip to Africa is a unique experience and is a must do on any surf travel bucket list. The people of Mozambique are beautiful and friendly. The scenery uniquely African, and the waves... largely untouched and uncrowded.

We do recommend taking a guide up to Mozambique, as the road is long and the waves sometimes hard to find, but with the right local knowledge, Mozambique (and Africa in general) is a surf paradise waiting to be explored. Chat to Pollywog to book your dream African surf trip.

Empty Perfection: Surfing Mozambique | A Broad on a Board

Empty perfection: Surfing Mozambique

Ft. Dan Wilson (Cape Town), and Chad Schwab (Durban) on the Clayton twinnie.

*****

After 10 weeks surfing along the coast of South Africa from Cape Town to Durban, we headed across the border into Mozambique for three weeks of uncrowded, warm-water waves. We spent the first few days surfing in Tofo, but while we were there, the conditions were lining up perfectly for a strike mission further up the coast.

This spot is well off the beaten track, so 4X4s are the only way to get there (other than by boat). We loaded up the trucks and set off before the sun was up.

By the time we got there, the surf was pumping and there was no one else out! This sand-bottomed, right-hand point break doesn’t always work, but when it does, it’s magic.

It's a semi-secret spot, so I won’t name it, but if you really want to surf there, it’s not hard to figure it out.

Our whole trip was arranged by Stoked Surf Adventures. If you fancy getting on your own Mozambique surf trip, check them out

We stayed here:

Hello, Tofo! We find ourselves in the Inhambane Province of Mozambique.

No seashell will be left unturned during our stay. Join us in this series as we show you around this incredible coastal town!

What a beaut! Praia do Tofo (Tofo Beach) is absolutely pristine. Tofo is situated 500km north of Maputo in southeastern Mozambique and about 23km from Inhambane City.
Tofo's international draw card is its blend of culture, nightlife & sealife!

The Tofo experience would not be complete without extensively supporting the local food market on a daily basis. This part of Tofo is seldom ever publicised.

Fresh produce, fish & local delicacies are available here in abundance. Not only does this allow us to immerse ourselves in the local way of life but also sustain our own healthy way of life.

Tofo is well-known for its large curved beach. It's extensive white sandy shores make it an ideal beach to relax.

Beautiful beachfront accommodation and the main market border this stunning beach.

Crystal clear & unbelievable warm gentle waters is what makes Tofo Beach one of the best swimming beaches we have ever seen.

During this time of the year, water temperatures average 26°C. Apparently in February water temperatures rise beyond 27°C. We will however settle for the 26°C waters this time with outside temperatures having a real feel of 38°C.

A Mozambique trip would not be complete without seafood. We gorged on a different type of fish almost every single day. Sourcing our fish from the fishermen at the market made this possible.

When lazing on the beach, we would notice colourful wooden fishing boats being pulled in by local fishermen after which some sort of fish trading would take place. Back at our accommodation, we would hear a gentleman on a loud hailer on the back of a truck advertising his catches of the day in a cooler box.

1.5km south of Tofo Beach is Tofinho Beach. Tofinho is a residential area and Tofinho Beach is a short stroll from the main beach around or over the sand dune.

It's less of a swimming beach but just as scenic. It's worth a walk to take in the full stretch of coastline.

The sun has now set on our Tofo trip! At sunset, Tofo Beach is lit up in the most beautiful golden brown hue!

We took time to appreciate the little piece of paradise we have been lucky to experience and thank the incredible people of Tofo for welcoming us with open arms.

Country #85 MOZAMBIQUE & The Journey to TOFO BEACH

The Journey Continues!! We've made it to Mozambique!! Nellie and I arrived in Maputo and after one night, rented a car & hit the road.

I have wanted to visit Mozambique ever since 2012 when I did a 4 month backpacking journey from Uganda down to Cape Town, missing only this wonderful country due to it being just a bit too far East. 5 years later however, we're here and super happy to explore the southern coast sharing it with you in this video.

So in this video we travel to Tofo Beach which is an absolute paradise. I hope you like it!!

The Journey Mozambique | The Search for Sunken Land Rovers

In this latest episode of The Journey, we ventured into the heart of Mozambique in search of sunken treasure in Pomene in celebration of one of the world’s most iconic automobiles, the Land Rover Defender.

The year 2018 marks Land Rover’s 70th anniversary and the Defender has played a key role in the brand’s rich heritage. In many ways, the Defender is the ideal offroad adventure vehicle - it’s unashamedly rugged, confidently capable and intrinsically imbued with the spirit of adventure.

To celebrate this motoring icon and to pay tribute to 70 years of adventure, Cars.co.za recently embarked on an epic journey in search of the sunken Land Rovers of Pomene, some 600 km north of the capital of Maputo. We covered well over 2 500 km's and we experienced the beautiful people, food and landscapes which make Mozambique so unique.

The Land Rovers lying at the bottom of Pomene Estuary are believed to be Series II and Series III which later spawned the venerable Defender. Today, these sunken Land Rovers serve as an artificial reef for a variety of fish but also serve as an attraction for visiting tourists. We set off for Pomene in a Land Rover Defender 110 Ultimate Puma to celebrate the motoring icon and we were joined by well-known photographer and YouTuber, Nicole Eddy and talented filmmaker, Calvin Munhuweyi. This is our Journey, we hope you enjoy it...

Tofo Beach Mozambique: by drone, land and underwater

Tofo is a small tourist and fishing town on a pristine beach on Mozambique's Indian Ocean coast.

Popular for scuba diving, snorkelling, surfing and more, it's also host to a range of guesthouses, bars and restaurants; activities like horseriding and kayaking, and of course long beach walks.

See a taste of what Tofo has to offer, along with a glimpse of the more traditional fishing activity which takes place here, as well as a local wedding celebration we stumbled across!
