Luang Prabang is an amazing historical city in Laos, and it also happens to be an amazing city for food. You’ll find an array of incredible Lao food to experience.

Morning Market - One of the best places to get started eating Lao street food in Luang Prabang is the morning market. It’s low-key, relaxing, the vendors are incredibly friendly, and there’s so much delicious food to try. From wild grilled beehive to khao piak sen noodles, the food is so good, it’s hard to ever go anywhere else when you’re in Luang Prabang. The food highlight for me was the grilled honey comb, since it was so rare and unique. Additionally, you’ll have a blast checking out all the ingredient at the market. Here’s what I ate:

Grilled beehive - 5,000 LAK ($0.60)
Mung bean cake - 5,000 LAK ($0.60) for 2
Naem
Khao gee - 5,000 LAK ($0.60) for 3
Noodle rolls - 10,000 LAK ($1.20
Khao piak sen - 15,000 LAK ($1.80) per bowl

Phosi Market - One of the biggest markets in Luang Prabang is Phosi Market. Unfortunately there wasn’t much pre-cooked food when we went there in the middle of the day, but luckily we found some amazing food.

Sai oua - Sai oua is the northern Laos version of sausage, and it’s a life-changer. This stall served some of the best sausage, not only that I’ve had in Laos, but in the world. You’ll find sai oua all over Luang Prabang. Price - 10,000 LAK ($1.20) each

Sticky rice feast - I desperately wanted a Luang Prabang sticky rice meal for lunch, so eventually after walking around a little we found the perfect spot. She had a variety of different Lao food stews to choose from and they all look great. All the dishes were delicious, but the best Lao food of the meal for me was the bowl of aw bon (or bon) - made from taro leaves.
Total price - 40,000 LAK ($4.79)

Finally, for dinner to finish off this Luang Prabang street food tour, we headed to the evening market, located perpendicular to the night market walking street. We ordered a Mekong fish and then some very interesting Lao dishes from the curry stall. The algae salad was particularly interesting and delicious.
Fish - 80,000 LAK ($9.58), farmed fish were considerably cheaper
Dinner total - 60,000 LAK ($7.18)

It was an amazing day exploring Lao street food in Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang is a food paradise.

LAOS STREET FOOD ???????? Epic Morning Market Breakfast Tour in Luang Prabang with @2Feet1Camera

A massive thank you to Nishi for his incredible video work and Kissa for showing me the street food!

Today I’m back in Luang Prabang, Laos and I’ve got a full morning eating Lao Street food with at the famous morning market

First we grabbed some sai ua at a famous stall at the market. I for some reason said kwang (deer) instead of Buffalo (Kwai) in the video when he’d just told me it was Buffalo!

Next up we headed for Khao Piak (jok/rice congee) opposite the market entrance.
Our last food stop was at the most famous Lao Khao Soi shop in Luang Prabang. The soup was excellent but not quite as good as my favourite which I get in my next video!

We finished up at Saffron, which is one of the most popular coffee shops in Luang Prabang.

I’m so happy to finally be back in Luang Prabang, it’s such a special place to us. If you want to know what Laos looks like in 2022, make sure to subscribe and look out for my upcoming videos.

My name is Gary Butler and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past six plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this YouTube channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!

I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.

If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

THIS is the Night Market to visit for Laos Street Food! ????????

If you're in Vientiane, Laos and looking for an exciting culinary adventure on a budget, be sure to visit the night street food market. For only 100,000 LAK, you can sample a wide variety of local and new foods, including traditional dishes like sticky rice and homemade pork jerky. This is the perfect opportunity for foodies to immerse themselves in the flavors and culture of Laos.

In this Laos Travel Vlog we try Laos Street Food for the first time, including plenty of Laos Traditional Food.
Street Food from Laos will really surprise you! It was so cheap and tasty, honestly I don’t think I’ve had as much value from a night market as I did in this one - and I’ve been to a LOT of them!

In this one, I went to a VERY local market and tried some Laos classics, before checking out the tourist market after.

Village Food in Laos - SPICY CHILI WOOD and AUTHENTIC KHMU FOOD in Luang Prabang!

►T-shirts and caps available now:
►Highly recommend White Elephant Adventures:

During our trip to Luang Prabang, one of my goals was to experience authentic Laos culture. So we set off on a 2 day excursion, into the mountains, not too far from Luang Prabang. The first day we’d spend learning about the Khmu culture and eating local authentic Khmu food. The next day, we’d move onto a Hmong village to eat Hmong food.

We met up with Alex and his team from White Elephant Adventures ( This is not sponsored, I paid in full for this tour, but Alex and his team were gracious to really set us up with a custom tour about food and culture. I highly recommend them for off the beaten path, authentic culture tours in Luang Prabang.

It wasn’t too long of a drive, and we stopped at a variety of markets along the way, but we eventually made it to the Khmu village. It happened to be the village of our guide. It was a gorgeous village, by the river. For lunch we had some simple bamboo shoot mixtures wrapped in banana leaf and steamed. Khmu mainly eat sticky rice.

After lunch we walked around, took a swim in the river, and just hung out, waiting for the dinner festivities.

We purposefully didn’t really make too much of a plan, because we wanted to just see what unfolded naturally at the village. They decided to butcher a small pig for the village and for the evening festivities. They also planned a baci ceremony - a Laos ceremony of blessing, which was an amazing experience and left me feeling so incredibly welcome.

Anyway, after the afternoon swim, the men got started butchering the pig and parting off each piece of meat - serious nose to tail dining - to the person who was designated to cook each different dish. What was amazing to me is that everyone in the community had a role, and each worked diligently for the greater community.

There were so many different local Khmu Lao foods being prepared that I could hardly keep up. But one of the most interesting dishes for me was the or lam, a well know Lao Khmu dish, but this version unlike anything I had tried before. One of the single most amazing ingredient is spicy chili wood - it’s actually a vine that grows in the jungle, and it is really spicy and makes your tongue tingle.
The baci ceremony was spectacular, the meal of all things pig with the community was special, and at the end of the night the children from the village sang us a couple of songs.

It was a fantastic day, delicious authentic and fresh Lao Khmu food, and an incredible time to learn about Khmu culture, and interact with the community.

Thank you for watching!

Eating Like Locals in Luang Prabang, LAOS ????????

On our first day in Luang Prabang, Laos we set off to see what the city has to offer! We only recently arrived in Laos by one of the most relaxing modes of travel; the slow boat. You know it’s going to be a great day exploring a new country when you stumble across a place that makes a PERFECT Lao coffee. We see some gorgeous sights (in the immense sunny heat) and cool off with delicious local Lao food dishes & local beer - which took us by surprise! We can’t wait to see what else Luang Prabang, and Laos as a whole, have to offer!

Fantastic Food Adventures in Luang Prabang (Lao PDR)

Guys I'm telling you. After four months (humble-brag I know) in Thailand, the foods of Luang Prabang, Laos are just a revelation. I had completely forgotten what I'd been missing... but I was missing it, believe me.

I frankly don't want to leave. It's such a comfortable and friendly place.

Luang Prabang Street Food Alley

Looking for dinner at street food alley in Luang Prabang, Laos. After a long connecting flights from Amsterdam to Luang Prabang, it was nice to stretch my legs and checking out the local street food scene. You can find the famous Night Market Street Food alley next to Indigo Hotel, which is a few meters from the intersections Chaofa Ngum Rd meets Kitsalat Rd. It is the main entrance to the Night Market, where after dinner, you can stroll around looking to buy all sorts of local products like silk skirts, scarves, jewelries, wooden products, and various souvenirs to take home.
