Some technicals problems during our Pacific crossing - Ep101

Hi everyone and welcome to our SailingTripFamily Youtube Channel. In this video we made a condensate of technical problems we had during this crossing over the Ocean pacific. But no worry! Except what you are going to see, we had a nice crossing ;-)

Like Abraham Lincoln said “ In the end, it’s not the years in your life count, it’s the life in your years”          ….. Enjoy !!!

Last preparation before crossing Pacific Ocean - Ep100

Hi everyone and welcome to our SailingTripFamily Youtube Channel. Already our one hundredth video ! Time goes so fast ! In this video, we are about leaving Panama toward french Polynesia. But before showing you this crossing, we wanted to show you our last preparation to get ready. We have orderded so many things from Amazon for this crossing, and we stored so many food. Our boat is too heavy and this long navigation might take much more time than we planned ;-)
Enjoy this video.

Like Abraham Lincoln said “ In the end, it’s not the years in your life count, it’s the life in your years” ….. Enjoy !!!

Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.

The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v.
Underwater video Gopro3plus.

Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.

Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.

Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

Safe sailing.

Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700.

My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video.

CHARGER FAIL, DIESEL LEAK, GENOA JAM... THAT'S BOATS! - SAILING FOLLOWTHEBOAT Ep 104

We were keen to get out of the marina, but when we started the engine our sailboat had different plans...

So while we sat in the marina awaiting delivery of a new alternator to battery charger, we got to grips with a few jobs like tackling that diesel leak and picking up a new solar panel. The wait wasn't too long, and we got on our way. Only to be thwarted by the furling gear for our genoa which chose this moment to get stuck.

Eventually we made it to a beautiful deserted anchorage on the southern tip of Penang where we watched a white-bellied sea eagle feeding its young as the sun went down.

We have a fantastic community of Followtheboat Mates who support us on PATREON and through the RUM FUND. Their generosity has enabled us to upgrade and add to our camera equipment, and to purchase better laptops and sound gear, as well as some of the best editing software available.

This incredible support is now being directed towards helping us prepare for our BIG ADVENTURE east, across 7,500 miles of ocean to the Pacific North West!

Without your encouragement we would not be producing regular videos or be able to continue to push and stretch our imaginations, both in terms of creativity and sailing to new destinations.

Thank you, friends!

Panamá Canal crossing - Ep99

Hi everyone and welcome to our SailingTripFamily Youtube Channel. As promised this is the whole video about our Panama Canal crossing. It took around 11 hours and we had a such nice day.  To cross this canal we have to pass 3 locks, the first one is “Gatun”, the second one “Pedro Miguel”, and the last one “Miraflores”. Each lock is composed of 2 or 3 gates. It’s so impressive to pass those gates behind those huge container ships, and the current is so strong but fortunately ropes from the peer maintain us. We have to use our own engines to keep going but small trains along the peer pull the big ships.

Like Abraham Lincoln said “ In the end, it’s not the years in your life count, it’s the life in your years”          …..  Enjoy !!!
