David and Duomo Tour: Early Accademia and Skip the Line Dome Climb Florence Italy (Tour Start)

PLEASE SUPPORT US BY SUBSCRIBING - THANK YOU!

In case you're wondering, here is a clip showing the start of our tour (meeting in Piazza San Marco), the Galleria dell'Accademia, and the Rape of the Sabine Women by Giambologna

We took the David and Duomo Tour: Early Accademia and Skip-the-Line Dome Climb. We booked in on Viator here: and it was fantastic. Well worth the price to skip the long lines and get almost a private tour of the Duomo. After the tour we took the option to climb to the top of the Dome and that was definitely worth the steps to get the once in a lifetime views. It is really not too bad even though there are a lot of steps as there are multiple levels on which you get a break.

David is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture, created in marble between 1501 and 1504 by the Italian artist Michelangelo. David is a 5.17-metre (17 ft 0 in)[a] marble statue of the Biblical figure David, a favoured subject in the art of Florence.

Florence Cathedral, formally the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore (Italian pronunciation: [katteˈdraːle di ˈsanta maˈriːa del ˈfjoːre]; in English Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower), is the cathedral of Florence, Italy (Italian: Duomo di Firenze). It was begun in 1296 in the Gothic style to a design of Arnolfo di Cambio and was structurally completed by 1436, with the dome engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi. The exterior of the basilica is faced with polychrome marble panels in various shades of green and pink, bordered by white, and has an elaborate 19th-century Gothic Revival façade by Emilio De Fabris.

CLIMBING THE FLORENCE DUOMO (DOME)-I NEED OXYGEN!!!

Climbing 436 steps to the top of the Brunelleschi Dome in Florence isn't easy, especially for an old man like myself, but once you're at the top, you get an incredible view of Florence. I hate heights but I think I met someone at the top who is worse than me! It was challenging but fun and I made a few jokes on the way up and down.

The dome is part of the Florence Duomo complex and is on top of the cathedral. The dome, by Filippo Brunelleschi, took 14 years to build (1420-1434) and the lantern on top was added in 1461. It's construction was a major engineering feat by Brunelleschi and was ahead of its time because no reinforcement and no scaffolding was used. Brunelleschi, who was a goldsmith by trade, won a competition to build the dome but was forced to work with his rival, Lorenzo Ghiberti, a fellow goldsmith.

In case you're wondering, here is a clip showing the views from the roof of the Duomo that was saw as part of our David and Duomo Tour: Early Accademia and Skip-the-Line Dome Climb.
