Hey guys, today we are going to look at a marvelous place in Sri Lanka, this place is known as Sigiriya. There is nothing like this anywhere in the world, which is why it is known as the 8th wonder of the world. This is actually a giant monolithic rock, about 660 feet tall, and you can see that it has a flat top, like somebody cut it with a giant knife. There are incredible ruins at the top which are extremely mysterious, so let us go straight to the top and see what's up there.
As you can see there are a lot of strange brick structures here and there and it is not only confusing for visitors, but even archeologists are not able to make complete sense of what these structures were used for. They confirm that everything you see is at least 1500 years old. But the mystery is not what these structures are, it is how these structures were built. How did ancient builders manage to move all these bricks to the top of the rock? It is reported that at least 3 million bricks are found here, but it would be impossible to make these bricks on top of the rock, there is not enough clay available here. They would have to have transported these bricks from the ground.
Now, the really bizarre part is that there are no ancient stairs from the ground level which go to the top of the rock. Look, all these metal steps were built in the last century. Without these new stairs, it will be very hard to climb this rock. This whole rock is now set up with different types of stairs, this is the spiral stairs at a different level. The ancient builders built very limited stairs, but these stairs definitely did not reach the top. This is exactly why no one, not even the locals knew about Sigiriya until 200 years ago, because there were no stairs to the top. And this is why an Englishman by the name of Jonathan Forbes Discovered the ruins of Sigiriya in 1831.
So how did early human beings get to the top of Sigiriya? Let us assume that it is possible to hike up hill through these very steep, wooded areas. But to bring 3 million bricks from the ground level, you will definitely need proper stairs. Without this, it would be impossible to transport them to the top.
Even if we claim that the bricks were made on top of the rock itself by some miraculous means, The construction work here would have needed hundreds of workers. How did they get their food? Look around, there are no fruit bearing trees or crops growing here, to feed anyone. And what about tools? How did they carry their massive primitive tools? Where did they rest and sleep? But it gets more baffling. Look carefully, there are not only bricks here, but look at these blocks. This is marble.

The milky white marble stones are not native to this area at all. These blocks are actually very heavy, every stone which makes up a step weighs about 50 pounds. And we can find thousands of these marble blocks here. Experts agree that Marble is not naturally found anywhere nearby, so how were they transported up to a height of 660 feet, especially without stairs to climb ?
But it is not the bricks or the marble that really baffles me. It is the granite. Look at this large water tank. If you ignore the bricks and marble blocks around it, you understand that this is the largest monolithic tank in the world. It has not been built by adding stone blocks, it has been created by removing granite, by scooping out tons and tons of granite from Solid Rock. And exactly how many tons of rocks have been removed? This entire tank is 90 feet long and 68 feet wide and is about 7 feet deep. This means that at least 3,500 tons of granite have been removed. So you can take a minute to really sit back and think if mainstream archeologists are right. If human beings were using primitive tools like chisels, hammers and pick axes on granite, which is one of the hardest rocks in the world, removing 3,500 tons would have taken years.

00.58 - Is it NATURAL?
02:05 - Giant Seat
03:24 - Strange Ancient Technique
04:35 - Amazing Rock Cutting Technology
05:49 - Conclusion

Hey guys, I wanted to show you the throne of Ravana, yes this is the throne of King Ravana in Sri Lanka. And you may think this is just a giant rock, but look on top. This is just mind-boggling. The entire top portion has been cut off and made completely flat to make it convenient for Ravana to sit on it. This is incredible stonework and it was done in ancient times.
From a distance, it looks a giant ball of butter with its top portion sliced in half. Maybe, you think this flat top was made naturally, by nature. Well, we have steps going to the top of the boulder, so let us go up and see what is there on top of King Ravana's Throne. Is it a natural formation, or was it cut artificially? What do you think?
There should be no doubt that it was cut by artificial means, using tools. This is definitely not natural. The floor is incredibly smooth, it looks polished as though people were using some kind of a floor polishing machine. Think about it, cutting the rock in half, and removing the debris is one thing, but polishing the top to create this type of a finish, this is breathtaking. And this is a giant boulder, okay? You can understand the size of this rock, by looking at my size. Compare the two, to understand big this rock must be.
Look at this perfect rectangle cut on the floor, it is surrounded with these holes drilled all around it. What is the purpose of these holes? On the far end, you see something strange, yes, that is where Raavan sat thousands of years ago.
This is a close-up of his seat, you see how big this is. The seat is about 10 feet long, this is much bigger than my bed, I could sleep very comfortably on this. This is fascinating, why does Ravana need such a big seat? Because ancient texts mention that Raavana was a Giant. He was not 5 or 6 feet tall, he is said to be between 10 and 15 feet tall, okay? Maybe he needs a giant chair like this, I look so tiny around his Giant Seat. According to locals, this one of Ravana's chairs, and this is located in Sigiriya, also known as the Lion Rock and this entire place is considered as Ravana's Palace. I have shown you several unique features about Sigiriya, and I have even shown you the mysterious Ravana Rocks which have strange features.
You can see as strange ancient technique in Sri Lanka. The ancient builders could mix nature and their own creations in a beautiful way. This is a natural giant rock, and they have cut this in half. But the seat is not made of the rock. In fact, this is not rock at all, this is made of brick, ancient lime mortar, clay, and other things like that.
Now, what do experts say? Even though there are ancient Sri Lankan texts like 'Ravana Watha' which clearly state that Sigiriya was used by Ravan, Archeologists, and Historians strictly deny that Ravana ever existed. In fact, they do not agree that these are Hindu structures at all and consider that these were built by a Buddhist king called Kashyapa, and they say that this rock was his Audience Hall. They say it was built 1500 years ago, but locals say it was built much much earlier in time.
No matter what you believe in, you have to agree that this is a fantastic work of ancient rock cutting technology. I mean this is just incredible. Turning one giant rock, into a throne, some seating area, possibly it was a private dancing hall, as well. So king Ravana would sit here, and watch some dance performances. You can also feel this a floor plan, you can see the differences between each room or area, see how the floor depth changes, each level indicates a designated area, okay?
Walking around, we can see many interesting things, this is a damaged block of stone. You see these holes, several holes drilled on the floor. When archeologists find this, their typical explanation is that people planted long wooden poles into these holes, and then put a giant cloth or coconut leaves and made a roof on top. In this case, I think that is a good point.
So what do you think? Was this Ravana's Throne? Or was it built by King Kashyapa? Hey guys, today we are going to explore this place called Sigiriya in Sri Lanka which is commonly known as Ravana's Palace. It is a very fascinating place and on top of this rock we have some amazing ruins. But once you reach the top and you observe what's on at the ground level, we can see some really bizarre details. Sigiriya is surrounded by a massive jungle, and we can see numerous huge rocks placed all around. To a regular tourist, this appears quite normal - it is only natural to have rocks on the ground. But if you zoom in with your camera, you realize that these rocks have been put there and have the most bizarre tool marks which cannot be explained.
For example, look at this rock. It literally has hundreds of small cubes cut out of it. And on the top we even have a larger cube cut out, as though someone wanted to sit there and perform some kind of an experiment. Why would anyone scoop out hundreds of cubes on a rock that is in the middle of a jungle? This is not an isolated case. Pay close attention to what is around this rock, you can see there is yet another rock hidden and it also has these cube marks all over it.
I have spotted so many rocks like this, look at this rock. Again, located in the middle of the jungle with nothing around it, but trees. Has so many cubes cut out all over it. Why?
If you look at the panoramic view from the top of Sigiriya, this whole jungle is full of hundreds of these rocks, if not thousands - Am I saying all these rocks have been worked on? Actually, Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.
: How about this rock for example, it looks natural to the human eye. Is this a natural rock untouched by ancient builders? If you zoom in, you can see the tool marks, the same cube marks cut all over it, but, may be you are not satisfied, because I wasn't satisfied myself, so let us go down and take a look at how it looks from the ground level. This is how at it looks from the ground level. I mean look at these tool marks, this is just bizarre. We have to admit that ancient builders were doing something which is beyond our understanding.
After exploring this area for so many days, I can tell you that the jungle is full of these rocks which have all been worked on. And archeologists have no idea why these cuts were made. We simply don't understand what ancient builders were doing with these rocks. The technology behind this is so far advanced, we have no idea why these were created.

And this raises a very important question: Did they just work on the rocks that were already here Or did they also transport and place these rocks here, strategically all around the Sigiriya Rock? I ask this, because it appears that these rocks are strategically placed, and looks as though they were set up to make it specifically visible from the top of Sigiriya.
Now, let's go back to why these cubes were scooped out, archeologists have no answer for this, but locals call them 'Ravana Rocks' and claim that originally these cube slots had lenses attached to them. It is said that lenses made of crystals were placed in these slots. Imagine how it would have looked, this would be a stunning sight to see. What would have been the purpose of this? Was it some kind of a light technology, were they used to focus sunlight to a specific point? Today we use various lenses like fresnel lens for example to heat, melt and tap solar energy. Were ancient builders using a similar technology? Remember we saw these grooves and holes all over the rock face on the Sigiriya Rock itself. Were lenses placed on these slots and holes as well? Is this why we see these weird cuts and slots all around? What could be the purpose behind placing thousands of lenses in clusters all around a place like this? Why did ancient builders do this? Hey guys, today we are going to look at a very strange structure known as Lion's Paws in Sigiriya. Sigiriya is a giant rock with a flat top which is also known as Ravana's Palace, located in Sri Lanka.
When you start climbing Sigiriya, it is usually a series of stairs with almost no place to rest. But there is one flat area in between where people rest half way before going to the top. This is a very interesting place because it shows something bizarre. Two giant paws of a strange animal. These are giant feet, I have not seen anything like this before, I mean this is huge, you can see how small I look when compared to it. Each paw is at least 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide. I mean it is impossible not to think of the giant legs of the Sphinx at the great pyramid of Giza. What's even more strange, Sri Lankan's do refer to this as Lion's Paws or Lion Gate which is similar to the modern Egyptians' claim that Sphinx is also part lion.
But are these really lion's paws? Look at the large nails, it is quite clear that this is not human, it looks like the claws of a fierce animal, the details are fantastic. There are 2 curves made where the nails meet the flesh at the end. If you look carefully, there is a little toe as well. So there are three bigger toes and one small toe in each leg.
In Sri Lanka, they are popularly known as lion's paws or lion entrance because many experts claim that these toes belong to a lion. But this is absolutely wrong, these are not lions paws. Lions do not have 4 toes, they have 5 toes, other similar mammals like tigers also have 5 toes, not 4 toes. The ancient builders clearly showed 3 large toes, and a small, rudimentary toe or a pinky toe. So what animal do these toes belong to?
Ancient reptiles had 4 toes, they mostly had 3 large toes and one small toe. Let's take dinosaurs for example, you are looking at the toes of T Rex. He has 4 toes, 3 large ones and one tiny one, look at the similarity. Pay attention to the rough scales on his ankle. The ancient builders have even tried to show the scales in Sigiriya, look at the wavy lines made on the structures as well, these represent scales. This definitely represents an ancient reptile. What is that powerful reptile? None other than Ravana himself.
Now Ravana is said to be the greatest King of Sri Lanka, so great that Sri Lanka's first satellite was named Ravana. Sigiriya is also known as Ravana's palace. But, how can Ravana be a reptilian? How can he have legs like this? But when we look at ancient texts, strange details start to appear.
First, Ravana was not fully human, only his father was human. His mother was a completely different species, perhaps a reptilian. When Ravana was born he had the qualities of a hybrid species, in the western world, these hybrids are called Nephilim, in some ways he was human, in other ways he was not. For example, it is well known that he was a giant, he was about 10 feet tall. But Ravana showed other reptilian characteristics, he was capable of Shape shifting, he could modify his appearance and deceive others, he could also become invisible by blending with the environment, like a modern day chameleon. The Thai text Ramakien mentions that Ravana's skin was Green, like a chameleon. Human skin cannot be green, he definitely had reptilian blood in him. In Sri Lanka, several reptiles are named after Ravana. For example, this snake is called Ravanage Medilla and even has the scientific name Aspidura Ravanai, after King Ravana because of his reptilian descent.

Hey guys, today we are going to find out what really existed in this ancient site called Sigiriya, in Sri Lanka. Sigiriya is a giant rock, on top of which, we have some of the most baffling ruins. The official story about these ruins is this: these brick walls are remnants of a palace built by a King called Kasyapa, around 500.A.D - all archeologists and historians claim that this is a fact. But, by the end of this video, I hope you will agree with me that this is entirely false and a very unique structure was built on this site. For example, let us look at the largest brick structure here, this area is considered as a palace by experts and the rest of structures are thought of as a recreational garden, including a pool. The dimensions of this so called palace are about 60 feet in length and 30 feet in width. This means that the palace area is less than 2000 square feet, just too small to be a palace which cannot even accommodate 10 rooms. Now if we assume that this is just a really tiny palace for the king, what about his wives and servants? Where are the rooms for cooking, storage and bathrooms? What about the rooms for his soldiers, priests and ministers? Where did his guards rest? As you can see, this entire area is a very small place which could have definitely not accommodated a king's Palace. Archeologists have put plaques on all 4 sides of this area, claiming that these are 4 sides of the palace. Look at this plaque, it says West Palace, meaning this is the west side of the palace. We can also see other plaques like South Palace, and one even says Palace Reception Hall. Today, this entire structure would barely be sufficient for a medium size house.
And we have already seen that the ancient builders created an elaborate defense system using water and rocks to prevent anyone from reaching the top of Sigiriya. There is no need to go to great lengths to build an entire line of defense systems which stretches for miles at the ground level, only to protect a tiny palace on top of a tall rock. In fact, this entire area or summit is simply not fit for any residential purpose like a home or palace, this was built for a completely different and specific purpose. If it was not built as a palace, what really existed here?
Now, Look at the construction of the bricks at the corners and edges. This was definitely not a rectangular construction like a typical palace or a fort, the walls of most regular structures would be at 90 degrees to the ground. If we observe carefully, we can understand this was once a pyramid. Look carefully..do you see how, the bricks are slowly becoming narrow towards the top? This is a characteristic feature of a any pyramid, all pyramids have a broad base and will become narrow towards the top. And you can see this slope from any side of this building , all these brick structures are slowly becoming narrow towards the top. So, this was definitely a pyramid but it gets more interesting, there is yet another special feature. This is a stepped pyramid, A pyramid which has many levels or steps. Look at here, here and here, these are all steps of the pyramid and you can see the stairs to climb the pyramid here. See how we can literally walk on these large plain levels. The entire structure consists of several of these steps.

And I am not spinning theories like mainstream archeologists and historians, I am showing you visual evidence of this stepped pyramid, this is the front view of the pyramid and we can even climb this step pyramid and let us go all the way to the top. Of course, a major top portion of the pyramid must have been destroyed, for some unknown reason. But I am not done yet. This is an extraordinary find, we have just found out that a stepped pyramid was built in Sri Lanka on top of a 660 foot tall rock. And I am not going to make wild guesses. So, how do we find out what the full pyramid really looked like?

Exploring the Sigiriya Rock Fortress in Sri Lanka

Sigiriya Rock Fortress in Sri lanka (aka Lion Rock) is the #1 attraction in the country. In this episode I feature this popular tourist known as the 8th wonder of the world. It's also one of eight UNESCO World Heritage sites in Sri Lanka. Sigiriya is truly a remarkable place, so I hope you enjoy this video.

Located in a rural part of the country Sigiriya was built around the 3rd century B.C. and was used as a monastery for 800 years. By the fifth century Sigiriua became a royal palace.

This national monument is essentially broken up into two parts, the massive royal gardens at the base, and the royal palace at the top of the monolithic rock. In order to reach the top, it requires a semi arduous hike up some 1200 plus steps, which will take you 45 minutes to an hour to climb (allocate at least 3 hours to climb and explore). It’s best to do it early in the morning to avoid the crowds and the heat of the day.

Sigiriya is considered an engineering marvel due to the advanced skills required to construct the fortress from sheer rock. The terraced gardens are formed from the natural hill at the base of the Sigiriya rock. A series of terraces rises from the pathways of the boulder garden to the staircases on the rock. These have been created by the construction of brick walls, and are situated in semi concentric way around the rock.

Lion Rock (the English translation for Sigiriya), towers more than 600 feet from the valley below and is 1144 feet above sea level. You can see here how it gets its name Lion Rock with these two huge paws at the gate of the fortress. Apparently there used to be a lion head at one point, but sheered off by erosion over time.

The gardens are divided into water gardens, terraced and boulder gardens. The subsurface has a complex hydraulic systems used during ancient times that are still functional today. During the rainy season, the water channels get filled up and the water is then efficiently circulated throughout the entire fortress; a system considered too advanced for its period, so it begs the question where this technology came from.

Sigiriya is a massive compound to explore, around every bend is something new to see, including an area where a massive wall was covered in elaborate frescos, unfortunately only a few survive today.

I spent a month in Sri Lanka and Sigirya was certainly one of the top highlights for me. If you wish to explore Sri Lanka, including Sigirya, check out my friends at and be sure to ask for Nuwan.

Hey guys, I am driving through remote areas of Sri Lanka to find evidence of Ravana. According to ancient texts, he was a giant who stood more than 10 feet tall and he lived many thousand years ago. I was told that a private collector actually has the Giant Skull of Ravana. Unfortunately, nobody seems to know the exact location of this collector, so I am searching for this place while driving through so many roads.
As I was about to give up my search, suddenly, by some weird coincidence, I find that house. Yes, that mysterious looking house which has these giant skulls. No sign boards, nobody in sight, and giant skulls are just put on the front, without any protection. I am immediately thrilled because I see these skulls and I pull up to this house, obviously shocked and eager to see what I am going to find.
Did I just find the ultimate evidence of Giants? In many videos on my channel, I have posted evidence of Giants, especially about Ravana, who was the greatest king of Sri Lanka. Did I just find the real skulls of the ancient Giant race? Or, are these mere models made of clay or some other material?
Let's go take a closer look. These skulls are not models, they are in fact real skulls. Each of these giant skull belongs to the same species. The skull is very large, you can see a gigantic lower jaw and you can see that the nose is longer than usual. I went around the house, trying to see if anyone was there. I could see more bones on the ground, but no people. This is very very strange. On the other side of the house, there are bones from the body. These are also quite gigantic, much larger than modern day humans. I could see bones of the ribs, twice the size of humans and stacks of bones strewn around on the ground. I could even smell the bones, so these are not fake, they are actual bones. Look at how big each skull is, the giant's head must have been larger than my entire arm. It means that these giants would have stood at least 10 feet tall.
And then I noticed something really strange, there are 2 eyes on either side, I mean I could see the holes, the eye sockets. But look, there is a third eye. A giant third Eye, in the center of the forehead, not on just one skull, but on every giant skull here. Look at this baby giant skull, even this has a third eye on its forehead. Today, some people think that the third eye denotes the pineal gland and all human beings have the power to awaken the third eye by meditation and by other means. However, here, we can see the Giant species had a third eye in the center of the forehead, it was physically there. What do ancient Hinduism and Buddhism say about the third eye?
It is really interesting because both religions say that their Gods had a third eye. Shiva, is obviously known for his third eye on his forehead, sometimes even Goddess Kaali is shown with a third eye. But did you know that Buddha is also depicted with a third eye in many statues? In fact many cultures around the world, talk about how all their Gods had third eyes, MesoAmerican Gods had third eyes, even Egyptian gods, the eye of the Horus, the eye of Ra.. there is even this eye symbol on dollar bills. All this goes back to an ancient civilization which once had giants, in the west they are known as Nephilim. But what about Sri Lanka?

5th century kingdom Lion rock sigiriya srilanka #travel #beautiful #shorts #virel #subscribe

Built in the fifth century, Sri Lanka's Sigiriya fortress attracted the attention of British archaeologists in the 1800s, who were amazed by its leonine rock art and beautiful frescoes.Sep
Sigiriya or Sinhagiri (Lion Rock Sinhala: සීගිරිය, Tamil: சிகிரியா/சிங்ககிரி, pronounced see-gi-ri-yə) is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. It is a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of granite rock approximately 180 m (590 ft) high.[2]

According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Cūḷavaṃsa, this area was a large forest, then after storms and landslides it became a hill and was selected by King Kashyapa (AD 477–495) for his new capital. He built his palace on top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure; Sīnhāgiri, the Lion Rock (an etymology similar to Sinhapura, the Sanskrit name of Singapore, the Lion City).

The capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.[3] Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning.[4]

Alternative stories have the primary builder of Sigiriya as King Dhatusena, with Kashyapa finishing the work in honour of his father. Still other stories describe Kashyapa as a playboy king, with Sigiriya his pleasure palace. Even Kashyapa's eventual fate is uncertain. In some versions he is assassinated by poison administered by a concubine; in others he cuts his own throat when deserted in his final battle.[6] Still further interpretations regard the site as the work of a Buddhist community, without a military function. This site may have been important in the competition between the Mahayana and Theravada Buddhist traditions in ancient Sri Lanka.

In Professor Senarath Paranavithana's book The Story of Sigiriya, King Dathusena is said to have taken the advice of the Persian Nestorian Priest Maga Brahmana on building his palace on Sigirya. According to Paranavithana, during this period over seventy-five ships carrying Murundi soldiers from Mangalore arrived in Sri Lanka and landed in Chilaw to protect King Dathusena, most of them Christians. King Dathusena's daughter was married to Migara, a Christian and the commander of

Sri Lanka's Sigiriya Castle Ruins ????????

■ SRI LANKA, SIGIRIYA: After locating the entrance and bypassing the Japanese tour group I was ready for a brief climb to see the famous 1600 year of frescos and scale the summit of the Sigiriya rock. Initially I thought it would be a brisk 10 ascent. I was wrong....

Sri Lanka's stunning Sigiriya Rock Fortress

For many visitors, the mighty Sigiriya Rock Fortress is the most impressive site in Sri Lanka. It totally dominates the surrounding landscape. With stunning views from the top, the 500AD citadel is surrounded by a double moat, the outer of which is now dry. Water gardens, largely dry now, are a restful place to pass time before your precarious climb which can be quite daunting for people who have vertigo

Nearby, as part of Sri Lanka's cultural triangle, the ancient city of Polonnaruwa was once the thriving commercial and religious center of Sri Lanka, some 800 years ago. It consists of a lot of temples and religious buildings. For three centuries it was the royal capital, of both the Chola and Sinhalese Kingdoms. The glories of that age can be found in the archaeological treasures that still give a pretty good idea of how the city looked in its heyday

Unveiling the mystery of the lion rock fortress; Sigiriya

Today we're going to take you on a virtual tour on one of the most iconic landmark in Sri Lanka; Sigiriya also known as Lion rock. There's nothing like this anywhere in the world, which is why in 1982, Sigiriya was declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO. It is known as the 8th wonder of the world but quite literally Sigiriya towers above the rest.

Sigiriya is located in the northern Matale district near the town of Dambulla in the central province of Sri Lanka. It is a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of granite rock approximately 660 feet tall and you can see it has a flat top, like somebody cut it with a giant knife. There are incredible ruins at the top of which are extremely mysterious. But no one entirely sure why they were built?Who built this and why were they s important.

If we go straight to the top you can see there are lot of incredible brick structures here.It is not only confusing visitors but even archaeologists were unable to make complete sense of what these structures were used for. Archaeologists confirm that the brick structures are at least 1500 yrs old. But the mystery is not what these structures are, it is how these structures were built?

It is reported that at least 3M bricks are found here, but it is impossible to make 3M bricks on top of the rock. They would have to be transported these bricks from the ground. But the wonder is there are no any ancient stairs from the ground level which go to the top of rock. All these metal steps are built in the last century. Without these new stairs, it will be very hard to climb this rock.
An Englishmen named Jonathan Forbes encountered the bush covered summit of sigiriya in 1831.
The sigiriya site contains the the ruins of an upper palace located on the flat top of the rock, a mid terrace that includes the lion gate and mirror wall the lower palace clings to the slopes below the rocks. The gardens of Sigiriya are one of the most important aspects of the site, as they are among the oldest landscape gardens in the world. The gardens are divided into 3 distinct but linked form; water gardens, cave and boulder gardens and terraced gardens.

Water gardens can be seen in the central section of the western precinct.Three principal gardens are found here. The large water tank on the top of rock, is incredible. Three principal gardens are found here. The large water tank on the top of rock, is incredible. The entire tank is 90 feet long and 68 feet wide and it is about 7 feet deep. And this tank has some strange properties.Throughout the year, it will never dries up.Even during the super hot summers and also it will never overflow during the rainy season.
But how it get water ?????

Apart from that sigiriya also houses two massive paws of a strange animal. Each paw is at least 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide. Sri Lankan's refer to these as Lion paws or lion gate.
But are these really lion paws?

The next wonder is Sigiriya Frescoes. John Skill once wrote, The whole face of hill appears to have been a gigantic picture gallery. The largest picture in the world perhaps. There are references in graffiti to 500 ladies in these paintings. However most have lost forever. The true identity of these ladies is still a mystery?

Mirror wall; Originally this wall was so reflective that the king could see himself as he walked alongside it. It is made of brick masonary and covered in highly polished white plaster. The wall is now partially covered with verses scribbled by the visitors. These poems are of highly literary value.
One such example is;
Like a geese who has seen a lake
I listened to message given by her
Like a bee who has seen full blown lotuses
the bewildered heart of mine was consold.
So what do you think?
was sigiriya made by human beings with primitive tools and human labour?
or was it Ravana's or Asura's Palace?

Watch the video to explore the mystery of Rock Fortress; Sigiriya.
We Invite all of you to Sri Lanka to explore the mesmerizing beauty, wild life ,multi ethnic, multi cultural society, cultural heritage year round festivals, Ayurveda and spa, and most delicious traditional food.

Sigiriya | Ravana's Palace | Climbing Sri Lanka's Sigiriya Castle Ruins

Sigiriya is one of the most valuable historical monuments of Sri Lanka.

Referred by locals as the Eighth Wonder of the World this ancient palace and fortress complex has significant archaeological importance and attracts thousands of tourists every year. It is probably the most visited tourist destination of Sri Lanka.

Sigiriya Citadel Rock
Sigiriya Citadel Rock
The palace is located in the heart of the island between the towns of Dambulla and Habarane on a massive rocky plateau 370 meters above the sea level.

Sigiriya rock plateau, formed from magma of an extinct volcano, is 200 meters higher than the surrounding jungles.

Its view astonishes the visitors with the unique harmony between the nature and human imagination.

The fortress complex includes remnants of a ruined palace, surrounded by an extensive network of fortifications, vast gardens, ponds, canals, alleys and fountains.

The surrounding territories of Sigiriya were inhibited for several thousand years.

Since 3th century BC the rocky plateau of Sigiriya served as a monastery. In the second half of the 5th century king Kasyapa decided to construct a royal residence here.

After his death Sigiriya again became a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century, when it was abandoned.

Sigiriya Lion Claws
Sigiriya Lion Claws
The main entrance is located in the northern side of the rock.

It was designed in the form of a huge stone lion, whose feet have survived up to today but the upper parts of the body were destroyed.

Thanks to this lion the palace was named Sigiriya. The term Sigiriya originates from the word Sihagri, i.e. Lion Rock.

Sigiriya Fresco
Sweeping Stroke Paintings
The western wall of Sigiriya was almost entirely covered by frescoes, created during the reign of Kasyapa. Eighteen frescoes have survived to this day.

The frescoes are depicting nude females and are considered to be either the portraits of Kasyapa’s wives and concubines or priestess performing religious rituals.

Despite the unknown identity of the females depicted in the frescoes, these unique ancient paintings are celebrating female beauty and have incredible historical significance.

Sigiriya Mirror Wall
Sigiriya Mirror Wall
One of the most striking features of Sigiriya is its Mirror wall.

In the old days it was polished so thoroughly that the king could see his reflection in it.

The Mirror wall is painted with inscriptions and poems written by the visitors of Sigiriya.

The most ancient inscriptions are dated from the 8th century.

These inscriptions are proving that Sigiriya was a tourist destination more than a thousand years ago. Today, painting on the wall is strictly prohibited.

The buildings and gardens of Sigiriya show that the creators of this amazing architectural monument used unique and creative technical skills and technologies.

Sigiriya Ancient Pools

The construction of such a monument on a massive rock approximately 200 meters higher from the surrounding landscape required advanced architectural and engineering skills.

The gardens of Sigiriya are among the oldest landscaped gardens in the world.

Sigiriya has water gardens, cave and boulder gardens, and also terraced gardens.

They are located in the western part of the rock and are with a complex hydraulic system, which consists of canals, locks, lakes, dams, bridges, fountains, as well as surface and underground water pumps.

In the rainy season, all channels are filled with water, which begins to circulate through the whole area of Sigiriya. Fountains of Sigiriya built in the V century, perhaps, are the oldest in the world.

The palace and fortress complex is recognized as one of the finest examples of ancient urban planning. Considering the uniqueness of Sigiriya UNESCO declared it a World Heritage site in 1982. Sigiriya is an unmatched combination of urban planning, water engineering, horticulture and arts.
