Shooting Large Format With the Fuji GFX 50R

This week I shot my first ever YoutTube video. Shooting on a 4x5 large format system with a Fuji GFX 50R as a digital back. I used a Toyo 4x5 Field camera. We shot on location on a typical wet winter day in the Pacific North West. I really enjoyed this new workflow and I hope to see you again soon.

In today's video we're on location as I take my new Bronica ETRS Medium Format Camera out for the first time, shooting sunrise from one of my favourite beaches on Kodak Portra 400 film.

When the weather begins to turn we head to multiple locations to take the camera for a spin as I try to get my head around using it for the first time.

Shooting Large Format Self Portraits | Focus and Framing Tips for Headshots

In this video I demonstrate some techniques for setting up and shooting head and shoulders self portraits with no assistance. Popular techniques involve using mirrors or a wide field portrait where the setup is generally much easier. Here, I want a closer head and shoulders image, making use of shallow depth of field to make the image three dimensional.

As it was our first time using a large format camera in the studio, it was quite challenging but exciting at the same time.
Ayush Being a professional photographer, I knew we had to have perfect planning to get a successful shot.
We therefore started by concentrating on the tiniest details. How to focus with the camera, brainstorming regarding the pose, managing perfect lighting and so on.
We finally had the perfect setup and we took a very beautiful picture of his Father.
This video acts as a tribute to his father who sadly passed away. This was one of the last memories he had with his dad where we shot a portrait photograph last year in April 2020 with 74 years old 4x5 Large format camera.

Film for Landscape Photography: Large Format Photography

In this video I cover the 4 types of film that I take with me whenever I go out to shoot. I hope you enjoy, and if there is a film you feel that I need to be shooting, let me know in the comments below!

Film Photography - When 4x5 is the ideal format

On a return trip to a local location my idea of what I wanted to shoot changed for the better once I saw the wonderful cracked mud. Using the 4x5 camera's tilt facility I was able to keep everything in sharp focus from front to back with ease.

Film Photography - Make Big Prints from 35mm Film

Following on from an earlier video on making large prints from 35mm film I decided to repeat the process but this time use B&W film with prime lenses.

The process was largely the same as before but this time I wanted to control all the variables including the large print so I opted to make as big a panoramic as possible on my Epson 3880.

I think I would use a solvent developer next time such as Xtol or ID11 to cut down the grain slightly. An optical enlargement would be a lot smoother but less sharp.

The last steps are to post process the image in Adobe Lightroom then make an A2 print on my Epson 3880.

My First Time Doing Film Photography in 23 Years!

This is the start of the Vintage Camera vlog series. The Canonet QL17 giii is host of the first retro camera vlog on this photography channel.
The Blog Post:
Brian's Channel:
The Facebook Group:

I picked up the Canonet QL17 giii from a fellow YouTube photographer with the intentions of starting a series of vintage and film camera videos. I started this video in Oregon with the intention of filming the whole thing in Portland. But, the rain kind of challenged the vlog, and I had to move the vintage camera work to Reno, Nevada as well. It turned out, though, that Reno is a nice a place for vintage cameras as it's kind of retro itself. The art deco feel of Reno works really well for film photography.
So, I'm excited for this vintage camera series. I hope you are too!

Large Format Woodland Large Format

This photography session in some woods local to me sees me using a large format camera for the first time in ages. I made a couple of scouting visits looking for scenes that might suit the format and came back with Kodak Ektar and Ilford FP4 Plus on a dull overcast day to capture the last of the autumn colours.
