Squeezed between the Andes and the Pacific, Chile is sometimes called the longest country in the world. It is never more than 180 km wide, but its coastline extends over 4,300 km. It’s unusual long shape has given it a varied climate with one of the world’s driest desert in the north, while its southern tip is home to cold-weather creatures like penguins. Chile is also one of the closest nations, along with Argentina and New Zealand, to Antarctica. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Chile:

Get to know the Chilean Lake District in northern Patagonia. Lakes, volcanos and glaciers provide an excellent setting for adventurous hikes and other excursions.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ROUTE IN PATAGONIA! ???????? | Driving the SEVEN LAKES in ARGENTINA's LAKE DISTRICT

Today we're taking you on a tour of the Seven Lakes in Argentina's Lake District! Many consider it to be the most beautiful route in all of Patagonia! The Route of the Seven Lakes is a section of highway along Route 40 between the towns of San Martin de los Andes and Villa La Angostura. It crosses two national parks, Lanín and Nahuel Huapi, and along the way, you get to witness vast forests, snowcapped mountains, and of course, the seven lakes! It’s a full day excursion and aside from the lakes, we also made stops at scenic lookouts, a waterfall, and the town of Villa La Angostura where we had some free time to explore, but more on that later.

The fog started to lift about mid-morning and we were finally able to see the mountain ranges and forest all around us. As we drove along route 40, our guide shared some fun facts about the places we were visiting, and also made sure to teach us about the local flora and fauna. We also had plenty of time to snap photos at each stop.

Our next stop was at a guesthouse and camping spot, which is located on the shores of Correntoso Lake. Here we encountered a little farm with ducks, geese, cats, and dogs - I was more than happy!

They also had coffee and salty doughnuts for sale, so I got a little mid-morning snack.

Lake Espejo really lives up to its name with its mirror-like waters. This was the calmest of the lakes we visited that day, and we could see the clouds, trees and mountains all reflected in the water. It was a thing of beauty!

We then drove to the town of Villa La Angostura, where we had been a few days prior, this time making a stop in Puerto Manzano. We had some free time to walk around the port and snap some photos. This location is slightly outside of the town and not as easy to reach on foot, but it has lots of hotel, cottages and beautiful beaches, so I’m glad we got to see it.

We also had free time to visit the two bays: Bahia Mansa and Bahia Brava, and then it was finally lunchtime! We certainly could have tried a new restaurant, but if you’ve been following our videos, you know that we became slightly obsessed with the food at El Esquiador during our stay in this town. I think this was our fifth time eating there in the span of a week!

Suffice it to say, it was delicious! But you already knew that.

After lunch, we met up with the rest of the group and started the drive back to San Martin de los Andes. You guys know me, of course, I instantly fell asleep the minute I got on the bus, so here are some beautiful landscapes that Sam filmed along the way. By the time I woke up, we were arriving at our seventh lake and final stop of the day.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ROUTE IN PATAGONIA! ???????? | Driving the SEVEN LAKES in ARGENTINA's LAKE DISTRICT:

Hey guys! We are Samuel and Audrey, a travel vlogging couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world.

We had the privilege of traveling around Argentina for nearly 3 months from January- April 2019 on a trip covering a large section of the country.

Our time in Patagonia continued as we headed from east to west trading more barren landscapes for thick forests, impressive mountains and magnificent lakes.

We finished visiting Patagonia with time spent in Villa La Angostura, San Martin De Los Andes and Bariloche where we enjoyed more stunning scenery and hiking. On our way back to Buenos Aires, we took the Tren Patagonia to Las Grutas before meeting up with Audrey's dad again.

Overall our Argentina travel series explores cities, small towns that are off-the-beaten-path, and scenic attractions with a strong emphasis on Argentina cuisine and local culture.

We spend a week in the Chilean Lake District exploring Waterfalls, Volcanoes, and Hidden Gems

Duke and I and our friends Bonnie and Brian flew into Puerto Montt after our time in Patagonia. We rented a car and spent 8 days exploring the Lake District of Chile.

We spent the first night in the forest at Cabañas Bosque Nativo near Ensenada. The next two nights we stayed in a geodesic dome at Domos Futronue near Futrono. We did a hike along the Caunahue River and had a fantastic dinner at a steak house called De Pellin y Coigüe.

From Futrono we drove to Ni-Newen Lodge near Pucon. We visited Villarrica National Park and hiked on the slope of Volcano Villarrica.

From Pucon we drove to Huilo Huilo Biological Preserve. We had some great volcano and lake views on the drive. While we were at Huilo Huilo we hiked several waterfall view trails. We also visited the animal park and museum.

Then we drove to Frutillar and stayed at Casa Ayacara. We salpled the cake at Kuchenladen. On our last day we turned in our renta car at the airport in Puerto Montt and flew to Santiago.

Pucón, Chile - Things to do - Travel Guide

We show you the best things to do in Pucón, Chile.

Pucón is extremely popular both with Chileans and foreigners for the beautiful views of Volcano Villarrica , which is the highest and most-active climbable volcano in South America. The city centre is a backpacker's paradise, filled with travel agencies offering a wide range of day trips. Apparently, also the night-life is quite active. If you don't like it crowded, avoid January and February as they are the busiest months. We visited in February.

We stayed just outside of the town in Caburgua on a lovely tranquil estate, Hotel Salto del Carileufu . From here we could explore the area avoiding the busy town centre unless eating out. Don't get me wrong it was a lovely place but in this guide we stick to things you can do in the area, around Pucón, rather than the town.

We visited numerous Waterfalls like Ojos Del Caburgua, and Salto El Léon. Spent hours just driving the local area with so many lakes and views to stop at and take pictures.

A highlight shown in the video was Termas Geometricas. It's a 2 hour scenic drive from Pucon and the last 30 minutes is on a bumpy gravel road, but don't let that put you off. Most 2 wheel drive cars are fine if you take it slow! It is really is an amazing place, Highly recommend you make the effort.

Anyway we hope you enjoy the video and follow us on to Argentina for the next part of our trip!

Chile: Frutillar Lake District - International Living

Frutillar: Chile's Lake District - International Living

IL editor Glynna Prentice is in Frutillar in Chile's Lake District. This region is a popular summertime destination for Chileans, thanks to its unspoiled beauty—plenty of lakes and volcanoes—cool summertime weather, and wealth of outdoor activities, from boating to hiking to fishing to horseback riding.

First settled by Germans in the 19th century, the Lake District in Chile has a strong Germanic influence. Here you'll find Swiss- and Bavarian-style chalets on the green hillsides or along the lake, and even the food—including lots of home-baked breads and pastries—has a Germanic touch to it.
Frutillar itself lies along the shores of Lake Llanquihue, a large fresh-water lake from which you can see the perfect peak of snow-capped Volcán Osorno. Frutillar is known for its opera house, a large, modern wood building right on the lakeshore, and especially for the music festival that is held here every January/February. During the December to February high season, accommodation can be hard to find in Frutillar. But the other 10 months of the year the town is tranquil.

For full-time living, you'll pay around $600 a month for a 1,500- to 2,000-square-foot house.

In this video you'll see:

Frutillar's lakeshore area, with the opera house in the distance, and views of Lake Llanquihue
A typical Germanic-style house that has been converted to a small hotel
Typical teatime (onces) fare in the Lake Region

Chile's Lake District

Chile is a very long country, stretching from glaciers and mountains in the south, through volcanic mountains and deep lakes, to deserts beside the sea rising to mountains that form the spine of South America.
Here are scenes from that middle place of volcanos, lakes and unexpected settlements.
