20 Things to do in Santiago, Chile City Guide | Top Attractions Travel Guide Travel Video Transcript:

Santa Lucia is an urban park smack dab in the middle of Santiago and it’s a popular hangout in the afternoons and weekends. The hike is a pleasant one with lots to see, including fountains, spiralling staircases, defensive forts, sprawling gardens, and cool lookout points.

Lastarria is a neighbourhood located just east of Santa Lucia hill and it was once the bohemian hub of the city.Today it is very popular with tourists as it offers an outdoors flea market, an international mix of cafes and restaurants, & live music.

For panoramic views of the city, ride the funicular to the top of San Cristobal Hill.

Plaza de Armas is the heart of Santiago’s historic centre. There are lots of benches under the cover of palm trees, and the place is buzzing with activity. The Metropolitan Cathedral is located in the historic centre of Santiago overlooking the square. The construction you see today dates back to the year 1800, since previous cathedrals were destroyed in earthquakes.

Santiago’s Central Market is the place to come for the freshest food. You'll find rows of restaurants serving up everything from grilled fish to ceviche. We really like our ceviche, so we found a place serving exactly that.

Parque Forestal is a park that forms a long stretch of greenery along the Mapocho River. It’s a nice green escape in the middle of the city.

Palacio de la Moneda is the seat of the President of the Republic of Chile. This is where you can come to watch the changing of the guard. Just underneath Palacio de La Moneda, you’ll find Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda, which is a cultural centre featuring exhibitions, design shops, and a small selection of cafes.

Bellavista is a cultural hub with lots of theatres, cinemas, cafes, museums, and restaurants. The most famed home in the neighbourhood is La Chascona, the home of the famed Chilean poet Pablo Neruda.

And that's a wrap for the Chilean capital! We hope you enjoyed this Santiago travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas of things to do, places to visit, and Chilean dishes to try in the city.

Don't miss out on trying the famous completo, a loaded hot dog topped with avocado, mayonnaise, and sauerkraut.

At number 4, we recommend Strolling through Barrio Lastarria: Strolling through its picturesque streets, lined with colorful buildings, boutique shops, and cozy cafes, offers a delightful experience. It's a haven for art enthusiasts, with numerous galleries showcasing local talent. The bohemian atmosphere, coupled with its cultural and culinary offerings, makes Lastarria a must-visit destination in Santiago.

Visitors can admire intricate ceramics, textiles, sculptures, and goldwork, providing a fascinating glimpse into the rich history of the region.

Now, let's unveil number 2 on our list—Explore the Central Market: The market is renowned for its fresh seafood, with a wide variety of fish, shellfish, and other delicacies on offer. It's a perfect spot to try traditional Chilean dishes like ceviche or enjoy a delicious seafood lunch in a lively and authentic setting.

Finally, securing the number 1 spot on our list is taking a day trip to Valparaíso: Known for its picturesque hills, colorful houses, and vibrant street art, it offers a unique and bohemian atmosphere. The city's historic quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a maze of narrow streets lined with colorful buildings and bustling markets. Valparaíso's artistic and cultural scene, combined with its stunning coastal views, makes it a must-visit destination.

Notes:
I got here by plane from Buenos Aires and the airport in Santiago is exceptionally clean and with no queues when I landed. They asked us to fill out an online form before landing but it was never checked by the staff.
The local currency is the Chilean peso, the exchange rate with the US Dollar is currently 1000.
The weather here is often cloudy and cool so remember to bring a jacket.
It's safe in the central area at daytime but you still need to be vigilant and try not to walk around alone at night.
Matsuri in the Mandarin Oriental hotel was fantastic and if you'd like other dinner options, I would recommend CasaLuz in Barrio Italia, Palacio de la Chorillana in Barrio Bellavista and Chipe in Barrio Bellavista.

One of my next videos will feature a full tour of the Mandarin Oriental resort as well as a sunset from Sky Costanera, so make sure to subscribe and get notified when they’re out.

EXPLORING SANTIAGO + WHAT TO EAT IN CHILE // CHILE TRAVEL VLOG

Welcome to Santiago, Chile in 2022! Exploring Santiago is a great way to start learning more about Chile and the people who live in it, so in this video we explore the city and eat tons of Chilean food!

We start our exploration of Santiago with a visit to Plaza de Armas before heading to Paseo Ahumada to check out the many shops that pop up along this busy pedestrian street. We also visit the Catedral de Santiago, Plaza de la Constitucion (Constitution Plaza) to see La Moneda Palace (the President's Palace), Mercado la Vega (La Vega Market), Santiago Mercado Central (Santiago's Central Market), and San Cristobal Hill.

In between these attractions we try as many foods as we can stomach in one day! We managed to get our hands on some delicious Chilean flan (we are pretty sure it was flan), crab empandadas, piscola, torta de mil hojas (cake of a thousand leaves), mote con huesillo, hamburguesa chilena from Antigua Fuente, and chorrillana. 10 Best Places to Visit in Chile - Travel Video

Check out all the places seen in this video:

Squeezed between the Andes and the Pacific, Chile is sometimes called the longest country in the world. It is never more than 180 km wide, but its coastline extends over 4,300 km. It’s unusual long shape has given it a varied climate with one of the world’s driest desert in the north, while its southern tip is home to cold-weather creatures like penguins. Chile is also one of the closest nations, along with Argentina and New Zealand, to Antarctica. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Chile:

This is Santiago, Chile ???????? Safe? Beautiful? Must Visit? What to do in the city. Travel Guide

We spent a full day checking out some of major sights to try to find the best things to in Santiago de Chile.

We started out the day with a run and headed to the beautiful Parque Bicentario where we saw some beautiful views of the city and mountains. We ran around the park for awhile to see what it had to offer and came across some flamingos.

We picked up the video later in the day in the centre of town in the Plaza de Armas, which is the main square in Santiago. From here we picked up our Hop on Hop off tickets from Turistik Chile and immediate hopped on a bus!

To book your Santiago Hop on Hop off ticket visit here (we had the “plus” ticket):

The Hop on Hop off bus took us throughout a large part of the city where we got to see many of the important sites and also listen to an audio guide.

We got off at the tallest building in Latin America called the Costanera Centre (Gran Torre). Here we bought tickets to the observation deck called Sky Costanera. The observatory is this highest in Latin America and offers amazing views of the city and Andes Mountains.

After this we walked to the cable car to make our way up Cerro San Cristobal, a park on a hill in the middle of the city. The tickets to the cable car were included in our Hop on Hop off ticket and also included the funicular down the hill.

Up at the top of Cerro San Cristobal you’ll find beautiful views of the city. You’ll also find a church as well as a statue of the Virgin Mary which you can see from the ground in most of the city.
