Das macht sie besonders beliebt bei Wandertouristen. Auch für die Kaiserin Sisi spielte das Salzkammergut eine bedeutende Rolle in ihrem Leben: Es war ihr Rückzugsort in den Sommermonaten. Immer wieder begegnet man in der Gegend den Spuren, die die Kaiserin dort hinterlassen hat – von der kaiserlichen Praline bis hin zum Klettersteig, der nach ihr benannt wurde.

Best of Salzkammergut english Trailer
Mountains, lakes, traditions, nature - take a tour with us through the Salzkammergut region, which covers the south of Upper Austria, the Styrian Ausseerland and a part of the state of Salzburg. The Salzkammergut is widely reckoned as the 10th state of Austria. Whoever comes to Austria has to visit this beautiful region. Highlights are Dachstein caves, five Fingers, the charming village Hallstatt, St. Wolfgang and Schafberg montain, parish church of Mondsee, Narzissenfest in Bad Aussee, Bad Ischl, the traditional Gamsjaga-days in Bad Goisern, Gmunden or the end of carneval season in Ebensee.

Hallstatt A Picturesque Village Hidden On The Banks Of One Of Austria's Most Beautiful Lakes 8K
Hallstatt is a village in Upper Austria. Currently, a little over 900 people live there. It is in the Salzkammergut, a mountain regionin Austria. It lies on a lake.
Because of its position, Hallstatt could only be reached by boat (or by using narrow, difficult mountain trails) for a long time. At the end of the 19th century a road was built. Despite this, even in the Neolithic people might have lived there. This is because there is a lot of natural salt there. In 1846, Johann Georg Ramsauer (a salt miner) found a cemetery from the neolithic age just above the village. A cultural epoch in Europe is named after this. It is called Hallstatt culture. Other finds in the region include a Shoe-last celt (a special kind of wedge, probably used to treat wood). A blacksmith site has also been excavatzed.
Today, the village lives mainly on tourism. There is a copy of the village in China.

The Salzkammergut (or Salzburger Land) is a particularly attractive region to visit in Austria. So plan to do a travel walking tour in the most beautiful village in Austria, or hike the Alpine mountains, or swim in beautiful lakes during your next Austria vacation ('Österreich Urlaub' in German). There are so many things to do in Salzburg and the surrounding Salzkammergut region that you don't want to miss.
Gosau is a municipality in the district of Gmunden in Upper Austria, Austria. Gosau is situated along the Gosaubach stream in the Salzkammergut region. It is only a 30 minute drive away from Hallstatt Austria and a much more quiet option than the famous tourist village. Beautiful rolling hills, forests and walking paths invite for hiking in summer. Gosau is also not far away from Salzburg Austria and the drive to Gosau is very scenic, especially if you choose to take the Romantic Route via Bad Ischl. There's also a good bus service available from Salzburg to Bad Ischl and Gosau. The center of the town is at an elevation of 767m (2,516'). 58.9% of the municipality is forested. At the southern end of Gosau there is a road leading to the Vorderer Gosausee, a lake with a view of the Dachstein. Gosau is one of the few Lutheran communities in Austria, with about 71% of the population being Lutheran.

The Salzkammergut (or Salzburger Land) is a particularly attractive region to visit in Austria. So plan to do a travel walking tour in the most beautiful village in Austria, or hike the Alpine mountains, or swim in beautiful lakes during your next Austria vacation ('Österreich Urlaub' in German). There are so many things to do in Salzburg and the surrounding Salzkammergut region that you don't want to miss.
Gosauseen are three lakes in the south-western, Alpine part of Upper Austria. They are situated near the town of Gosau, which is close to Salzburg. The mountains that encircle the lakes are called the Dachstein Mountains, whose glaciers partially shaped the landforms and still influence the hydrology of the area.

We drive through the Salzkammergut, a beautiful landscape of lakes and mountains just outside Salzburg, Austria. After a one-hour drive through splendid scenery we arrive at the little village of St. Gilgen on the shores of Lake Wolfgang, a very pretty place, famous as the home of Mozart’s mother and sister. The journey continues with a half-hour boat ride across Lake Wolfgang, a very pleasant excursion that passes some small village clusters along the way and wonderful mountain scenery in the distance. You can ride outdoors on the upper deck or down below in the bar and restaurant lounge. This pleasure ship has busy waiters who will keep you from getting thirsty or hungry.
The boat soon arrives at the quaint little village of St Wolfgang where you have nearly one or two hours free to browse around, have snacks at a terrace café overlooking the water, and visit the Gothic church to see an important wooden altar carved by Michael Pacher, a leading woodcarver from the Tyrol working in the early Renaissance. People have been flocking here ever since the 12th century when it was a pilgrimage town dedicated to St. Wolfgang.

BEST HIKES in Austria: How to hike Mount SCHAFBERG in the Salzkammergut Lake District near Salzburg
In this video, we will hike mount Schafberg from Sankt Gilgen in the Salzkammergut Lake District near Salzburg. I will show you how and why hiking mount Schafberg is one of the best things to do in the Salzkammergut. The hike from Sankt Gilgen takes five to six hours. It's not a difficult hike, but you need to be more or less fit to reach the top.
While Sankt Gilgen is closer to Salzburg, the hike from Sankt Wolfgang, just below Schafberg, would be shorter. Either of the hikes is not difficult in terms of technical hiking skills but either way, from Sankt Wolfgang or from Sankt Gilgen, the hike is steep, takes long and can be exhausting.
A fantastic alternative to the hike is the steam train leaving from Sankt Wolfgang to the top of mount Schafberg. You can read about the Schafbergbahn, the steam train, on the Free Walking Tour Blog:
Schafberg is famous because of Schafbergbahn, one of the oldest cog railways in the world takes visitors to the top of mount Schafberg every day.
What we are doing in this video is hiking to the top to stay there at the Schafberg hotel. The stay at the Schafberg hotel is a way to experience the top of mount Schafberg without the crowds and a way to experience sunset and sunrise on top of the mountain.
To reach Sankt Gilgen from Salzburg by public transport, you take bus 150 from Salzburg train station or from Mirabell square in Salzburg. Bus 150 takes you straight to Sankt Gilgen. If you would like to hike from Sankt Wolfgang or even take the railway to Schafberg, you also take bus 150 but change to the bus to Sankt Wolfgang in Strobl.

The alternative to that bus change would be the boat on lake Wolfgang which takes you from Sankt Gilgen to Sankt Wolfgang. That's recommended in case you take the steam train to the top of Schafberg anyway because the same company runs the boat and the train and there is a combination ticket.
