6 Best Places To Visit In Meghalaya | Dawki |Whistling Village And More

Today I'm taking you to Meghalaya which means abode of clouds
This one has my ❤️
India is a land full of rivers.
1.Dawki river is actually one of the cleanest in the world.
The water is green and crystal clear.
The river seperates India and Bangladesh.
It has a 90 year old suspension bridge where I’m standing :))
Don't you feel the boats appear to be floating on an invisible glass surface?
A boat ride is a must when you visit Dawki!
Meghalaya is full of beautiful waterfalls. And this one for sure caught all my attention.
2.Phi Phi falls is located in the west Jantia hills.Isn't it gorgeous? Which ia the most beautiful waterfall you've seen?
Next we go to:
3. The living root bridges! These are suspension bridges made by shaping the roots of trees. Created by the people of the Khasi tribe, these roots grow from the ancient rubber trees, seen only in the northeast region. These roots are trained by the Khasis to grow in such a manner as be in the form of bridges on the top of a river. The most popular tourist attraction of Cherrapunjee, these double decker living root bridges are 2 bridges that are stacked one on the other, made because of the entanglement of roots. Climbing down 3200 steps was worth it!
Next is:
4. The Wei Sawdong Waterfall. The route to the bottom of the waterfalls is mostly bamboo bridges, stairs, and mud. It is extremely dangerous so be sure to wear proper trekking shoes. When wet, the bamboo is slippery so a hiking stick may help. I was super scared but the view was breathtaking. I'm in love with all the waterfalls here.
Next I'm taking you to the most unique village ever.
5. Kongthing village also called as the whistling village here the residents have three names: a regular name, a distinct melody and a shorter tune that is akin to a nickname. Each villager here has a distinct tune as his/her name that came stright out of their mothers heart a she held them in her arms. What melody would you name your best friend as?
Another unique gem Meghalaya hold is:
6. The Sacred forestWhat is a sacred or holy or blessed place for you??
The people of Meghalaya hold their forests as sacred and holy. You cannot take or leave behind anything in the forest. Leave only footprints and take back only memories they say. They worship their trees and forests. What if we, like them worshipped all of nature?? Wouldn't the world be a more beautiful place?!!!

Double Decker Living Root Bridge Cherrapunji EP 3 | Meghalaya Tourism Video | Meghalaya Tour

This is the third episode from our Meghalaya series. We trekked to the Double Decker Living Root bridge Nongriat in Cherrapunjee which is also known by the name Sohra. This trek is quite intense as it involves 3500 steps while going down and 3500 steps while coming up. But we enjoyed doing this trek as we got to experience the beautiful Raw Meghalaya. Upon seeing the double decker root bridge, we felt it was worth the hike. But I wouldn't recommend this trek to elderly people and one with knee injuries. Watch this episode of Megha meets Meghalaya to know more about this place.

MEGHALAYA - SPECTACULAR WATERFALLS & LIVING ROOT BRIDGES

#Meghalaya #Cherrapunjee #Shillong
The undulating Meghalaya uplands give way abruptly on the state's southern fringe to deep, jungle-clothed, waterfall-ribboned valleys plunging precipitously to the plains of Bangladesh. Cherrapunjee (also called Sohra), sitting near the lip of the escarpments, is the obvious base for exploring this spectacular landscape. Thanks to the prodigious monsoon rainfall produced by this geography, #Cherrapunjee was once feted as the wettest place on earth, though nearby Mawsynram is nowadays reckoned to be a few drops damper. Domestic tourists flock here during the monsoon for the cool air, the celebrated rain and the waterfalls, meaning that Cherrapunjee's peak season runs from about May to August.
Tourists Attractions Of Cherrapunji
Titled as one of the wettest places on Earth, Cherrapunji is replete with many tourist attractions to explore.

#Mawsmai Cave – Offering a thrilling experience, the cave is a wonderful work of nature.
#Krem Mawmluh Cave – The fourth longest cave with a pool inside it formed because of five different rivers.
#Nohkalikai Falls – Tallest plunge waterfall in India which presents a sight to behold during monsoon.
#Double Decker Living Root Bridge – Presenting a unique example of bioengineering, the two-tier bridge is almost 100-ft long.

MEGHALAYA INDIA - SPECTACULAR WATERFALLS, LIVING ROOT BRIDGES, LANDSCAPES

#Cherrapubjee #Meghalaya #Shillong
During my visit to #CHERRAPUJNEE, I took thousands of clips of different places, waterfalls, suspension bridges, and living root bridges. Among those only sorted out a few to prepare this video. This may give you a glimpse of its beauty.

Cherrapunji is a small town found in Meghalaya state in northeast India. It's located about 54km southwest of #Shillong, the state capital.

The town is situated high atop the Shillong plateau, in the #East Khasi hills. This plateau averages about 1,480 m above sea level and lies as much as 1,000 m above the floors of the surrounding valleys. The town itself sits at an altitude of 1,260 m above sea level.

The plains of #Bangladesh begin only about 25km south of the town but the nearest border crossing into Bangladesh at #Dawki can only be reached by an 85km drive, due to route the road takes.

Among the wettest place on the Earth, Cherrapunjee with its clean and pristine surroundings is an excellent place to sit back and unwind.

With a unique climate gifted to the area, its untouched beauty and an environment similar to the freshest dew drops, Cherrapunjee is sure to refresh you inside out. The waterfalls in the area only compliment the climate and the flattering pleasant air around. These include the Dain Thelen falls, Noh Sngithiang falls, Noh Kalikai falls and more. This rainy misty place is also famous for astounding tourists with the lavish spread of the Bangladesh plains from it's cliffs.

Spectacular Water falls of Cherrapunji, Meghalaya, India

In this video we show you the spectacular waterfalls that Cherrapunji is so famous for. Cherrapunji, located in Meghalaya state, North-East India, is easily a contender for the most inspiring and incredible places we've visited in Asia so far.

Cherrapunji is the second wettest place on Earth. All this rain does have its perks though because without it, you wouldn't see the incredible waterfalls that Cherrapunji is famous for. In this video we show you the waterfalls cascading down from the Kheng Shuri Falls, Nohkhalikai Falls (340m, tallest plunge waterfall in India) and Elephant Falls (incredibly beautiful remote jungle waterfall). Many of these waterfalls are view-able from viewpoints near the town of Sohra (Cherrapunji town).

Cherrapunji is also known for the unique and fascinating living root bridges. These all natural bridges are hand-made by the tribal Khasi & Jaintia people, from the aerial roots of the rubber fig tree (ficus elastica). The aerial roots are interwoven across rivers to form incredibly strong and durable bridges, allowing the people to traverse the river even during heavy floods.

You can also make daily treks into the surrounding wilderness, using Nongriat as a base, to see more amazing living root bridges and the incredibly beautiful rainbow waterfall.

Complete Guide to Double Decker Living Root Bridge Trek Nongriat|Best Thing in Cherrapunji Meghalaya

A trip to Meghalaya remains incomplete if you’ve not trekked to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge, an astounding bio-engineered bridge ‘grown’ around 200 years ago by the local Khasi tribe.

The Double Decker Root Bridge is located in the tiny Nongriat village in the East Khasi Hills, around 15 kms from Cherrapunji (Shore). It is one of its kind and is the most famous of all the root bridges in Meghalaya. This 20-meter long bridge is probably the only root bridge in the country with two decks.

But what makes it even more special is the amount of determination, courage and physical fitness one requires to have to reach there. It has around 3500 stairs and descends 2,400 feet. The trek is, no doubt, challenging, long and tiring but it’s totally worth it!

This video aims to help you plan your Double Decker Root Bridge trek in a much informed and organised way. If you have any specific query regarding the trek or about planning Meghalaya trip in general, please reach out to us on the below mentioned social media links or contact us on +.91-8123896129.

To know more about the trekking details and the step by step guide, read our latest post on Double Decker Root Bridge Trek in the official website:
