THIS ADVENTURE MADE POSSIBLE BY: Kuoda Travel
/// The Bolivian Salt Flats in Uyuni, Bolivia are one of the most beautiful and unique places we've ever been! They are the biggest in the world (10,000 square kilometers of salt!). We drove 70 miles in the middle of the flats and had a gourmet picnic, and then hiked on an island that has formed on top of the flats. We ended the day with a gorgeous sunset and settled in our salt hotel for the night!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started traveling full-time January 10, 2016. While daily vlogging was not the original plan, we were having way too many cool experiences not to share every single day! Now travel vlogging is our full-time gig and we feel like we have the greatest job in the world! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

We’ve pulled inspiration from several of our favorite travel vloggers on YouTube, such as: +CaseyNeistat +FunForLouis +Jon Olsson +Mr Ben Brown , and any other talented travel vloggers that YouTube’s algorithm will hopefully connect us with ;)

Cycling Salar de Uyuni (Bolivia): a psychedelic experience

Crossing the Salar de Uyuni by bicycle was a dream come through. Being in the Salar is an out of this world experience, you literally feel like being in a different planet: the perspective is radically different. A psychedelic experience was had, in every manner. I spent the first night at Isla del Pescador and the second night at Isla del Pescado. The night temperature was around -20˚C. Three days is ecstasy.

This is old footage from the Americas leg of my adventure cycling the world. Quality isn’t great it was filmed with an old GoPro with no stabilization.
I will be publishing a few videos from my experience in the Americas; actually, from South America as I have not many videos from North America.
I started my adventure bike travelling in Alaska in August 2015, reached Colombia in April 2016 and the end of the continent in Patagonia at the end of March 2018. This series of videos will cover Colombia to Patagonia during that period.
I have already published a few vlogs from South Americas, these will fill the gaps in the Americas playlist.

Reflections from Uyuni (4k version)

Share
Reflections from Uyuni is a Time-lapse short film that shows the intrinsic beauty of the salt flat of Uyuni and the province of Potosí in Bolivia.
The reflections produced by the water flooding the area in the rainy season, are the main protagonist of Enrique Pacheco´s camera, who invites us to dream with impossible images from another world, where the sky meets the earth forming an infinite mirage.

The salt flat of Uyuni with over 10,000km2 is the largest in the world. It is located in the province of Potosi, Bolivia, near the Andes, at an altitude of 3.656m.
The Salar serves as a transport route through the Altiplano of Bolivia, but tourism has an increasingly more important role in the area.

Salar de Uyuni: 3 Day Tour of Bolivia's Salt Flats and Colored Lagoons

There’s more to Uyuni in Bolivia than the salt flats. If you limit your visit to Uyuni to ‘just’ the salt flats, you’ll miss some of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes I’ve ever seen.

We traveled around Bolivia by ourselves, but we joined a small group with a guide to do a 3 day (2 nights) tour of Uyuni’s highlights. I’ve been back two weeks now and I’m still struggling to find the words to describe this experience. Words, photos and videos will never do it justice, so I’m hoping that this video will do enough to convince you to go to Bolivia to see it for yourself.

South America Trip 2016 (Atacama Desert, Salar de Uyuni, Inca Trekking)

This is the short version of my entire trip to South America in April-May 2016.

Two destinations drew me to South America, Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, which is the world’s largest salt flat, at 4,086 sq mi, just a little smaller than Connecticut (US), and Machu Picchu in Peru, which is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

To make this trip challenging, Salar de Uyuni was designed at the end of 3 days Atacama Desert crossing (from Chile to Bolivia) which travels to altitude of around 16,400 ft, and Machu Picchu was designed at the end of 4 days Inca Trekking (42km, with 26 lb weight, to altitude of 13,800 ft). “Fillers” for this itinerary: Panama Canal, Chile capital Santiago, Bolivia capital La Paz, Cusco where the Inca Trail starts and Peru capital Lima.

It turned out not only the desert crossing and the Inca trekking were amazing experience, even the “fillers” were wonderful. I could not have better luck than I had in this trip: In Panama Canal, I saw three big ships crossing Miraflores Lock; In Santiago, I witnessed former president’s state funeral and a food festival; in La Paz, I witnessed protesting, I was even allowed to stay inside government center to shoot videos behind the heavily armed police; in Cusco, I could sit on the front line (the curb) watching International Labor Day celebration with all those colorful costumes; in Lima, I could find the best restaurant for ceviche, La Mar and tasted the freshness without reservation.

South America, I love you! And I definitely will come back to see you again and again!

Sunset at Puerto Chuvica on the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia

Well, I'm not going to win any awards for my narration in this video, but at least you get an idea of what it's like to be on the salt flats during sunset when there's still a bit of water on top from the rainy season.
