Rail Bike Carson Canyon- Riding the rail bikes into Carson Canyon in Carson City Nevada.
The rail bikes are on the V&T Railway train lines.
This is a 4 seat rail bike with motor assist to help with pedaling out of the canyon. It is a 6 mile round trip with 3 miles of it being up hill. It is a 2.4 percent grade which provides a great cardio workout.
You go in both directions away from the depot which makes for two stops and two turn arounds. At one point we cross over the bridge for Highway 50.

Railbikes are available at the Virginia &Truckee Railway Eastgate Depot. There is a lovely waiting area where you complete paperwork before being escorted to the railbikes.
Riding the railbikes was fun. The first half of the adventure was easy because we were going downhill. The “Made in America” rail bikes were innovative and easy-to-pedal.
There were sites to see along the way as we ventured deeper into the canyon.
The railbike experience gives people of all ages the opportunity to see the beauty of the Carson River Canyon in a whole new way.
When we got to the bottom of the canyon, we stopped and got off the railbikes, drank some water, and enjoyed the landscape.
The crew turned our railbikes around so we could pedal back up the canyon.
Even with the electric engine helping us, we still had to do a lot of pedaling when going uphill.
Railbiking with Carson Canyon Railbike Tours was great exercise and a lot of fun.
Just a few tips for a successful ride:
*plan for a morning or early evening ride and avoid the heat.
*wear sunscreen
*don't wear flipflops
*hydration is important
*if you don't want to bike with strangers, take some friends with you. It is four people per bike. Our friends Bob and Sally rode the bikes with us and it was fun to ride with friends.

Riding railbikes in South Korea
My wife and I rode railbikes in Gangchon.
It was really fun! We started at 9AM, and it took 30min for the ride.
We were actually the first bike of the day, and I peddled so hard that we couldn’t see the people behind us. ^^ Then we waited for the little train until 10AM, spent 15min riding the train, 10min for walking to the bus stop, and then 10~15min riding the bus to the parking area.
