WALKING THE STREETS OF REYKJAVIK, ICELAND! (4K)

Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland and about 60% of Iceland's entire population lives in the Greater Reykjavik area. It's a small city and very easy to get around by walking. One of the things that makes Reykjavik unique is that there is some very cool street art on the buildings and on the streets. We were there in summertime and spent a lot of time walking on Reykjavik's main street, Laugavegur. We also visited the unmistakable Hallgrímskirkja Church, which is one of Iceland's tallest structures, which is why you can get the best views of Reykjavik from the observation deck. We ate lunch at the most famous hot dog stand in all of Iceland, Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur, which was once picked as the best hot dog stand in all of Europe! We then walk past Austurvöllur, a main square, and passed by the Parliament Building and Reykjavik Cathedral. From there, we walked to Tjörnin Pond, where City Hall is located, but it also features perhaps the strangest statue in Europe: The Monument to the Unknown Bureaucrat. It was then time to visit the nearby Settlement Exhibition which was built around the ruins of a Viking Longhouse. Near the harbor, we visited the famous Sun Voyager steel sculpture and walked by the architectural landmark, Harpa Concert Hall. From there, we walked on a happening street named Bankastræti and then back in the other direction on Laugavegur.

Reykjavik, Iceland - Walking Tour in the Winter (Daytime in November)

This is a walking tour of Reykjavik, Iceland, during the winter in November.

You'll see a variety of locations within the city, such as Laugavegur Street, Hlemmur Square, a glimpse of the Hallgrímskirkja church, Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur hot dog stand, and the world famous Reykjavik Chips.

How do you pronounce Reykjavik? From Quora:
Reykjavík can be cut into three parts (to make it easier); Rey, which would be pronounced like Ray; kja which would be pronounced like the last part of Ikea (basically just removing the I); and vík which would be pronouced like the word week.
So basically it would be pronouced like Ray-Kea-Week.

Iceland - Walking Laugavegur main Center street in Reykjavik 2023-03 │ Part 82

* * * Everybody who visit Reykjavík walks Laugavegur – That’s just how it is – No questions asked – Join me, so you know what to expect * * *

Laugavegur is one of the oldest streets in Iceland’s capital, Reykjavík. Its name roughly translates to ‘the Water Road’, as it was up and down this area where women used to bring their laundry to be washed in the hot pools.

It was properly constructed in 1885.

The road begins in the east at Kringlumýrbraut, near the mall Kringlan and the town’s largest park Laugardalur, and runs west to Bankastræti, which leads into the downtown area. It is about two kilometers (just over a mile) long.

The popular shopping stretch of the street starts at the city’s bus center, Hlemmur, and continues to Bankastræti; west of here is the economic district.

During pride, rainbow colors can be seen in almost every window.

Reykjavíc, Iceland //A Walk Through Laugavegur // 4k

After a walk to the seaside, I went up to the main shopping street, Laugavegur in downtown Reykjavík. Probably the coldest place I've ever been to!

just chilling :)

Reykjavik laugavegur walking trip | Where To Travel | Travelling VLOG

This is my first short and introductory vlog in reykjavik iceland . I have travelled across Hallgrímskirkja world famous Church in iceland (Discription below ) .Famous tourist Laugavegur street and Famous Tjornin lake Whether it's frozen to perfection like a frosted mirror or dressed in the dazzling shades of summer, Tjörnin pond is enchanting in any season and one of Reykjavík's most photographed attractions. Subscribe to our channel for more amazing videos .
Discription for Church
Situated in the centre of Reykjavík, it is one of the city's best-known landmarks and is visible throughout the city. State Architect Guðjón Samúelsson's design of the church was commissioned in 1937. He is said to have designed it to resemble the trap rocks, mountains and glaciers of Iceland's landscape. The design is similar in style to the expressionist architecture of Grundtvig's Church of Copenhagen, Denmark, completed in 1940.
