Ep. 144: Bisbee, Arizona | RV travel camping 4x4
Less than 8 miles from the Mexican border, Bisbee was founded as a copper, gold, and silver mining town in 1880, and named in honor of Judge DeWitt Bisbee, one of the financial backers of the adjacent Copper Queen Mine. Because its plan was laid out to a pedestrian scale before the automobile, Old Bisbee is compact and walkable, and not a place to drive your RV. The town's hilly terrain is exemplified by the old four-story high school; each floor has a ground-level entrance.
Mining in the Mule Mountains proved quite successful; in the early 20th century the population of Bisbee soared to more than 9,000. In 1917, open-pit mining was successfully introduced to meet the copper demand during World War I. Mining operations in Bisbee ceased in 1975, and heritage tourism replaced mining as Bisbee's economic driver. Artist Stephen Hutchison and his wife Marcia purchased the Copper Queen Hotel,as well as other buildings in the downtown area. Actor John Wayne was a frequent visitor to Bisbee and the Copper Queen. He befriended Hutchison and eventually partnered with developer Ed Smart in his real estate ventures. Bisbee became a haven for artists and hippies fleeing the larger cities of Arizona and California. Today, the historic city of Bisbee is known as Old Bisbee and is home to a thriving downtown cultural scene.
For our visit to Bisbee, we're still boondocking away from everyone else along Forest Road 687 within Arizona's Coronado National Forest, at the foot of the Dragoon Mountains just north of Tombstone. SURPRISED, SHOCKED! Don't be Fooled. HDT BIG Rig Travels. Boondocking $. RV Lifestyle. Fulltime RV
Although it snowed in the Mojave Desert, we didn't need the shovel to leave the campground THIS time so off we went to Tucson. A Harvest Host stop was planned but....this gets sketchy. What to do?
California Highway 95 was a mess and we need a wash. Voyager and Orion are disgusting so it's bath time! We check in to Voyager RV Resort but there are always costs. Be aware of these hidden costs to make your RV travels more enjoyable.
We came out West to enjoy a nice warm winter season and to experience some Rare Events. Although the winter weather has been up and down with temps in the 70's to down in the 40's we have enjoyed every minute of our RV Lifestyle. Our Western part of the trip is nearly finished but we have seen and enjoyed some epic adventures.
We are not Snow Birds but we do like nice warm weather and heading west was the answer this winter.

We like to Switch it Up between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to YouTube channels Suite Travels, Switch it Up and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks (Happilyeverhanks) #thankshanks and believe it or not, I actually learned something from MRBeast Mr Beast video's as well.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share in our experiences in our discovery of What's Next.

Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.

ℹ️ About the Episode: RV life and holidays can sometimes be tricky. We enjoy being with our family for holidays, but with our kids scattered across the county and without a home base, we decided to meet up at Fort Wilderness. Carson would have joined us, but he was training in Tampa.
When it comes to RV travel, not everyone is up for the same experience. Some people are in it for the adventure, while others just want to relax and read a book. Some people like RV resorts with pools while others like dispersed camping in the middle of nowhere. And when these opposing views coexist inside the same RV, it can require some compromise. It's probably not too hard to figure out from the thumbnail image who in our group isn't the Disney fan. Truth be told, it has more to do with long lines and lots of people. But Fort Wilderness does help bridge the gap between park people and non-park people. Even though Fort Wilderness is in the middle of Orlando, it does feel like you're in a state park and has a great camping vibe. In this episode, we share how we use the RV to visit with our older kids and make the most out of holidays. It was a fun episode with lots of dynamics between the entire family.

We stayed 7 nights at Voyager RV Resort in Tucson, AZ. Would we stay at Voyager RV Resort again? First impressions may be deceiving. Arizona Oasis RV Resort Review
Welcome to B Free RV, this week we are reviewing Arizona Oasis RV Resort in Ehrenberg, Arizona. It sits just off of I10 at the Arizona-California border and is right on the Colorado River.
Though the park does not offer a lot of amenities, it does have a beautiful beach on the river where you can sunbathe, swim and even float down the river to the boat ramp.
We would recommend this park for a few days in the off-season to enjoy the river and we are sure it is full all winter long with snowbirds enjoying the warm Arizona air.

????Our last Arizona adventure…
????️How could we possibly leave State 48 without visiting one of the most popular National Parks on the planet? We’re headed to the Grand Canyon!
???? It’s not the biggest hole in the ground in the world, but it’s close with the North Rim sitting around 9,000 ft above sea level. In fact, scientists have recently questioned how old the Grand Canyon really is. Some think 6 million yrs old, while others estimate 70 million yrs. It truly is incredible what the Colorado River has done to this region over time. It’s hard to comprehend how vast there Grand Canyon is even as you stand over the edge looking into it!
❤️ We are excited for the next adventure while we spend the summer in Oregon exploring the PNW for Victoria’s next Travel Nurse contract. However, Arizona definitely has our hearts, and up to this point is our favorite place we’ve traveled to. We are going to miss it dearly!
