Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin, Germany - World Heritage Journeys

With over 500 hectares of parks and 150 buildings constructed between 1730 and 1916, Potsdam's complex of palaces and parks was a crowning achievement for Prussian royalty and a model for excellence across Europe. The complex was designed by the top architects and landscape gardeners of the period, who worked with sculptors and painters to create masterpieces such as the Sanssouci Park, the New Garden and the Park of Babelsberg.

Inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1990, the palaces and parks of Potsdam are a must-see cultural treasure for any visitors to Berlin.

POTSDAM TRAVEL VLOG | day trip from berlin, germany

Potsdam is a great day trip from Berlin. It's an easy train ride from Germany's capital, and it's full of beautiful palaces to explore – from Sanssouci Palace and the Sanssouci Picture Gallery to the Chinese House and New Palace. We didn't get to everything in our one day in Potsdam, but we had a great afternoon wandering around the beautiful city. I'll have to come back soon – just one of the many perks of living in Berlin! I hope this Potsdam travel vlog gives you some ideas of things to do when you're planning your next trip to Potsdam.

Brandenburg, Germany | City of Brandenburg, Potsdam, Cottbus, Eberswalde | Drone 4k video

Brandenburg, Germany. A 4K drone video shows a bird's eye view of the German state of Brandenburg. Brandenburg land is magnificent: clean rivers, pine forests, birch groves, beautiful lakes. Attract the attention of local buildings - old and newfangled.

general information
Brandenburg was formed as a federal state in 1990. The area is about 30 thousand km2, and the population is more than 2.5 million people. The geographical location of the Brandenburg land is interesting in that it surrounds Berlin from all sides, although the latter is not part of it and is a separate administrative unit.
Agriculture is developed in the region. The main crops grown here are sugar cane, rye, beets, potatoes, and tobacco. Berlin garden - this is what Brandenburg is called because of the variety of agricultural products.

Capital
Potsdam is the administrative center of the region. The city is called a suburb of Berlin because it is only 25 km away from it. These two cities are connected by the Glienicke Bridge. Potsdam is located on the river Havel, surrounded by numerous lakes. The capital is immersed in greenery.
The city is decorated with gates located in different parts of it. So, in the northern part, the Nauen Gate was erected, and in the eastern part, the Brandenburg Gate. These are architectural monuments, examples of ancient architecture. There is a lot to see in Potsdam. Seventeen luxurious palaces surrounded by parks are attractive and unique.

Nature
Brandenburg is located in the eastern part of the North German Plain. Fascinating landscapes are the main attraction of the region. 1/3 of its territory is forests. The main reservoirs are the Central German Canal, its eastern part, and the Oder River. There are many lakes and other reservoirs on this land (more than 3000), along which you can take a walk on water transport and admire the beautiful places in the area.

Major cities
The oldest city in the region is Brandenburg an der Havel. Outwardly, the city resembles Venice, as the water surrounds it from all sides. In this regard, water sports and water walks are developed here. In Brandenburg, it is worth visiting the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, the Archaeological State Museum, the Stone House.
Cottbus is one of the largest cities in Brandenburg. There are many palaces, museums, theaters, beautiful squares, but the most remarkable place is the park of Prince Pückler-Muskau. In the park area there is a magnificent lake, and in the middle of it there is an island on which a pyramid has been erected, outwardly resembling an Egyptian one.
In Germany, there is a small and cozy town of Oranienburg. It is famous for the Dutch-style palace of the same name, the summer horticultural exhibition and the former Sachsenhausen concentration camp.
Eberswalde is a tourist town that attracts tourists with its historical and cultural heritage and the surrounding forests and waters. Its attractions include the Old Town Hall, sculptures Bernhard Dunkelman and Amazon.

What to see
Spreewald is a protected area, which is very popular with locals and tourists. This place is located near Berlin. Trees reflected in the lakes, unique buildings, clean air attract millions of people here.
In Brandenburg, in addition to exploring the beauties of nature, you can get acquainted with historical, cultural monuments, architectural monuments. Impressive and local parks. It is worth visiting the Biosphere Park, the Babelsberg Cinema Park - the local Hollywood.
The exhibition of porcelain in the Chinese house of Potsdam, excursions to the Dresden Zoo make an impression. It is impossible not to visit the bright festivals taking place in the Brandenburg cities.

Attractions
One of the most beautiful sights of Brandenburg is the Marble Palace, located in Potsdam. Once it was the residence of Friedrich Wilhelm. This is a striking example of classicism, attracting attention with a facade of white and gray marble.
Another residence of Friedrich, summer, was the castle of Sanssouci (translated from German - without worries). Around it is a magnificent park of the same name with an area of 290 hectares.
You can have fun at the Museum of Lies. Here, the truth borders on a lie - the unique exhibits (the witch's broom, Hitler's false mustache, etc.) are just a fake. The point of the collection is that art is an illusion.

Potsdam And Berlin - Germany Best City - Travel & Discover

Potsdam was a residence of the Prussian kings and the German Kaiser until 1918. Its planning embodied ideas of the Age of Enlightenment: through a careful balance of architecture and landscape, Potsdam was intended as a picturesque, pastoral dream which would remind its residents of their relationship with nature and reason.

Potsdam, the Capital of Brandenburg, Germany

Potsdam is the capital of Brandenburg and borders Berlin. The town has population of approx. 160,000. It is widely known for its castles and landscape as a World Heritage Site. Potsdam is more than 1000 years old. Many historic buildings are under re-construction after World War II and the period of the GDR.

For most of its recent history Potsdam has not been accessible from Berlin. The last station before the former GDR was Wannsee. Many of the buildings that are visible today have been reconstructed after the bombings of the Second World War and after the lax care of the East German Government.

Potsdam has several claims to national and international notability. In Germany, it had a similar status that Windsor has in the United Kingdom: it was the residence of the Prussian kings and the German Kaiser, until 1918. Around the city there are a series of interconnected lakes and unique cultural landmarks, in particular the parks and palaces of Sanssouci, the largest World Heritage Site in Germany. The Potsdam Conference, the major post-World War II conference between the victorious Allies, was held at another palace in the area, the Cecilienhof.

Babelsberg, in the south-eastern part of Potsdam, was a major film production studio before the war and has enjoyed increased success as a major center of European film production since the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Filmstudio Babelsberg is the oldest large-scale film studio in the world.

Potsdam developed into a centre of science in Germany from the 19th century. Today, there are three public colleges, the University of Potsdam and more than 30 research institutes in the city.
