By air, it is 165 kilometres (103 miles) northwest of Sarandë, 31 kilometres (19 miles) west of Tirana, 83 kilometres (52 miles) south of Shkodër and 579 kilometres (360 miles) east of Rome. Located on the Adriatic Sea, it is the country's most ancient and economic and historic center.

Plazhi Durrës, Durrës, Albania
If you would like to have the experience with the Albanian biggest seaside touristic city you have to visit Durrës. This place is famous for its very long sandy beach, more kilometres long and up to 75 metres wide. It is very easy to reach with a vehicle of any kind and you can simply park beside the road. On the beach itself you have lots of space. The water entry is very nice and because the water is very shallow the point of swim starts around 75m to 100m. This fact makes this beach ideal for families with small children. Because this is a true city beach many beach infrastructure is available here and lots of beach services. All around the place you have many shops, beach bars and restaurants of all kind. Accommodation is available on every corner of the beach in all kind of forms, predominantly as hotels.

PLAZHI SHKEMBI I KAVAJES, DURRES 2021 | 4K DRONE VIDEO, ALBANIA
Shkëmbi i Kavajës (Rock of Kavajë) is a landmark named after the town of Kavajë, Albania. The outsized rock is about 6 kilometers from Kavajë and about 8 kilometers from Durrës. It is said to be the place where, in 48 BC, during Caesar's Civil War, Caesar fought against Pompey.
Shkëmbi i Kavajës është shkëmb i cili ndodhet në afërsi të gjirit të Durrësit. Shkëmbi është 160 metra i gjerë dhe 560 metra i gjatë. Sipas disa historinave mendohet që Beteja e Dyrrahut mes Çezarit dhe Pompeut të jetë zhvilluar pranë Shkëmbit të Kavajës.
Shkëmbi i Kavajes bën pjesë në monumentet natyrore të vendit tonë. Ai ndodhet në afërsi të fshatit Shkallnur, fare pranë bregut të detit, më një lartësi që shkon deri në 105 metra mbi nivelin e detit. Që nga kohërat më të lashta e deri më sot, vendi ka qenë dhe është mjaft i njohur, por arsyet kanë ndryshuar. Plazhi ke Aragosta, Durrës, Albania
If you would like to have the experience with the Albanian biggest seaside touristic city you have to visit Durrës. This place is famous for its very long sandy beaches, but on some parts you also have a little bit more private small beaches. This one is called Plazhi ke Aragosta and its 300 metres long and up to 30 metres wide. It is very easy to reach with a vehicle, of any kind, and you can simply park beside the road only 50m away from the beach. The main beach surface is sand, the water entry is very nice and swimming starts almost immediately, but if you prefer to jump into the water you can also do it here from a pier. Because this is a true city beach, many beach infrastructure is available here with lots of beach services. All around the beach you have many shops, beach bars and restaurants of all kind. Accommodation is available in all kind of forms, predominantly as hotels.

Durrës, home to the biggest seaport in the country, is located 34 km away from Tirana. It is the most ancient city in Albania, with almost 3,000 years of history. Its foundation dates back to 627 B.C. when the Corinthians and settlers from Corcyra invaded the Illyrian territory of the Taulants. The city is home to many ancient archaeological sites and finds. The most notable tourist attraction in Durrës is the amphitheater of the Roman Emperor Hadrian with 15,000 seats, the second biggest amphitheater in the Balkans .
During the 9th century, a small church with mosaic-covered walls was built nearby. You can also see the bathhouses of the 2nd century A.D. and the nearby Byzantine forum of the 5th-6th century with marble columns. One-third of the original wall of the city castle is still standing, and you can even walk along the same road that Caesar himself once strolled. The Archeological Museum is located in a new building on Taulantia road , one of the most important of its kind and of great interest to visitors. The most renowned archaeological structure found in Durrës is “Bukuroshja e Durrësit,” a mosaic from the 4th century B.C. Today, it is exhibited in the National Historic Museum in Tirana.
The Ethnographic Museum is the house of the historic famous actor Alexander Moissi born near Durres .
The Art Gallery of the city is placed at the main square Iliria .
In addition to its historical value, Durrës is also a beautiful place to take a break, due to its sandy beaches, hotels and urban feel. You will find excellent restaurants and accommodations all along the sea’s edge.

Plazhi Currila, Durrës, Albania
Welcome to the Albanian beach Currila. One of the last beaches you can visit in the seaside touristic city Durrës, before going to the north, is the beach Plazhi Currila. It is located in the region Durrës and it is very easy accessible with any kind of vehicle. You can either park by the road, or on the private parking place from the hotel. The beach surface is mainly sand, but you also have other types of surfaces mixed within, like pebbles, and you even have some concrete plates. Altogether the beach is 500 metres long and up to 25 metres wide. The water entry changes along the whole stretch of the beach, and on some points you can start swimming after only 5 metres, or you can either jump from the pier. You have many beach infrastructure here and lots of beach services, the same goes also for the different types of restaurants and beach bars. There is also a partyplace located in the vicinity of the beach. If you are searching for accommodation you have a hotel directly on the beach and some apartments in the vicinity. Mirësevini në plazhin shqiptar Currila. Një nga plazhet e fundit që mund të vizitoni në qytetin bregdetar turistik Durrës, përpara se të shkoni në veri, është plazhi Plazhi Currila. Ndodhet në rajonin e Durrësit dhe është shumë lehtë i arritshëm me çdo lloj automjeti. Mund të parkoni pranë rrugës, ose në vendin e parkimit privat nga hoteli. Sipërfaqja e plazhit është kryesisht rërë, por keni edhe lloje të tjera sipërfaqesh të përziera, si guralecë, dhe madje keni disa pllaka betoni. Krejt plazhi është i gjatë 500 metra dhe i gjerë deri 25 metra. Hyrja e ujit ndryshon përgjatë gjithë shtrirjes së plazhit, dhe në disa pika mund të filloni të notoni pas vetëm 5 metrash, ose mund të hidheni nga skeleti. Ju keni shumë infrastrukturë plazhi këtu dhe shumë shërbime në plazh, e njëjta vlen edhe për llojet e ndryshme të restoranteve dhe bareve të plazhit. Benvenuti sulla spiaggia albanese di Currila. Una delle ultime spiagge che puoi visitare nella città turistica balneare di Durazzo, prima di andare a nord, è la spiaggia Plazhi Currila. Si trova nella regione di Durazzo ed è facilmente accessibile con qualsiasi tipo di veicolo. È possibile parcheggiare lungo la strada o nel parcheggio privato dall'hotel. Durrës is the second most populous city in the Republic of Albania. The city is the capital of the surrounding Durrës County, one of 12 constituent counties of the country. By air, it is 165 kilometres (103 miles) northwest of Sarandë, 31 kilometres (19 miles) west of Tirana, 83 kilometres (52 miles) south of Shkodër and 579 kilometres (360 miles) east of Rome. Located on the Adriatic Sea, it is the country's most ancient and economic and historic center.
Founded on the coast of the Illyrian Taulantii by Greek colonists from Corinth and Corfu under the name of Epidamnos (Greek: Επίδαμνος) around the 7th century BC, the city essentially developed to become significant as it became an integral part of the Roman Empire and its successor the Byzantine Empire. The Via Egnatia, the continuation of the Via Appia, started in the city and led across the interior of the Balkan Peninsula to Constantinople in the east. In the Middle Ages, it was contested between Bulgarian, Venetian and Ottoman dominions.
Following the Albanian Declaration of Independence, the city served as the capital of the Principality of Albania for a short period of time. Subsequently, it was annexed by the Kingdom of Italy and Nazi Germany in the interwar period. Moreover, the city experienced a strong expansion in its demography and economic activity during the Communism in Albania.
Durrës is served by the Port of Durrës, one of the largest on the Adriatic Sea, which connects the city to Italy and other neighbouring countries. Its most considerable attraction is the Amphitheatre of Durrës that is included on the tentative list of Albania for designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Once having a capacity for 20,000 people, it is the largest amphitheatre in the Balkan Peninsula.

RRUGA E PLAZHIT - PLEPA, DURRES 2021 | DRIVING VIDEO
Rruga “Pavarësia” që çan përmes plazhin e Durrësit nis nga Ura e Dajlanit dhe përfundon në vendin e quajtur Plepa, në një gjatësi prej vetëm 4.3 kilometrash.
Ajo iu nënshtrua një projekti të gjerë rikualifikimi përmes pesë tenderave në vitin 2016, duke ofruar tre pamje të ndryshme.
Rruga “Pavarësia” ndjek të njëjtën gjurmë me fillimin e rrugës Durrës – Kavajë, e ndërtuar thuajse një shekull më parë; atëherë kur ranishtja e plazhit kishte pamjen e dunave mbushur me gjineshtra.
Rruga e asfaltuar mbeti e tillë edhe në vitet 1970, kur plazhi i Durrësit filloi të frekuentohej masivisht, veçanërisht nga të rinjtë dhe familjarët e shumtë të Tiranës, ndërsa në krahun e detit u ndërtuan qindra kabina prej druri e madje edhe çadra ushtarake, të cilat u adoptuan për pushuesit.
Në vitin 2004, qeveria shqiptare akordoi 10 milionë euro për rindërtimin e saj dhe rruga e Plazhit mori përmasat që ka sot.
Në vitin 2016, Bashkia e Durrësit e ndryshoi funksionin dhe pamjen e saj përmes pesë tenderave të financuar nga Komiteti i Zhvillimit të Rajoneve, ndërhyrje të cilat kushtuan në total 686.6 milionë lekë [5.5 milionë euro].
Ata që shkojnë drejt qyteteve të jugut nuk e përdorin më rrugën e plazhit, por kalojnë nga rruga e re e Unazës.
Bashkia e Durrësit tashmë i ka përfunduar të gjitha ndërhyrjet në jug të qytetit, aty ku brenda 20 vitesh u krijua një nga lagjet më të populluara në shkallë vendi.
