Welcome to Colombia
Colombia is a very safe country. I have lived here for 4 years as a foreigner and nothing has happened to me, besides, more than 4 million tourists come to Colombia every year ( which means that there are excellent tourist sites that you can surely visit.

Despite this, there are places in Colombia that you should not visit for your safety. Here is the list of places and the reasons why you shouldn't go (

- Areas that are on the border with Venezuela: Composed of the entire border and some areas of the department of Norte de Santander, Arauca and Vichada. Border insecurity is due to the number of Venezuelan refugees in Colombia, several due to their conditions, come to rob in Colombia. Also, for reasons of drug trafficking ( and armed groups ( located in the area.

- Areas in the Amazon: Composed by the department of Guaviare towards the south of Colombia. This whole area is forest. Although there are safe places, such as Florencia in Caquetá or Leticia in Amazonas, this is the perfect area to grow coca.

- Putumayo: Department that borders Ecuador and Peru to the south of Colombia. It is a place of difficult access and ideal for coca cultivation and drug trafficking.

- Pacific Coast: It is the place of settlement of armed groups. It is a difficult situation to control in the country because it is a very large forest area. Although in the Pacific there are tourist and safe areas such as Bahía Solano and Nuquí in the department of Chocó.

- Areas in Antioquia: There is a small area in Antioquia that must be avoided because it is the place of settlement of paramilitaries ( armed right-wing groups.

Also, although the big cities like Bogotá ( Medellín ( and Cali ( are safe, it is important that as a tourist you have caution in areas that you don't know, taking care of your personal valuables.

Rumichaca International Bridge to Otavalo Ecuador or Quito or Ibarra

How to travel from the Colombian border to Ibarra, Otavalo, or Quito. Total expected transportation cost is about $10. There are checkpoints along the way so be prepared and have your ID handy. Do not store your ID under the bus in your luggage! By the way using a photocopy of your passport is a good idea to use for everything except crossing a border. Do risk losing your passport.

Reserva Natural Tinamú Birding

Welcome to Colombia

When I was traveling through the department of Caldas, specifically when I was in Tinamú Birding Nature Reserve ( I met Erica, an Austrian woman, who lives in London and was traveling Colombia alone. Erica told us a little about her experience traveling alone in Colombia and some recommendations to take into account.
Among the places she visited are Lost City in Santa Marta, Punta Gallinas in La Guajira, Cartagena and Medellín. She describes each of them as a place of wonderful experiences.
The recommendations Erica gives to all women who want to travel through Colombia alone are:
- Learn Spanish, since many Colombians do not know English and that makes communication with them difficult.
- Dress casually, avoiding wearing expensive jewelry and accessories.
- Apply common sense, for greater security.
As Erica said in the video, the role of tourists is very important for the development in Colombia. Colombians want to show to the world that their country is safe to travel, even if you are a woman and you go alone. Colombia is a place with many magical destinations that you cannot miss.

Check out my blog about SAFETY IN COLOMBIA

Like other Latin American countries, serious processes of violence have crossed Colombia: independence in the second decade of the 19th century, wars such as the supreme wars in the middle of the century or the war of a thousand days in 1899, and the internal conflict that begins in the middle of the 20th century, affecting the safety in Colombia. However, Colombia has taken huge steps in terms of security which has doubled the number of tourists who have visited the country since 2011. One of the main questions people ask us is, is Colombia dangerous? Is Colombia safe for tourists? Recently some embassies have issued a travel warning for Colombia, but in fact most of the country is safe to travel. Here we want to answer all these questions and tell you the reasons why fear cannot stop you from visiting this beautiful country.

Welcome to Colombia

The concept of luxury travel is almost new in Colombia. Colombia is a country that previously did not have much foreign tourism, so far the tourism industry is developing. For this reason, the offer of luxury hotels and services in Colombia is limited to a few cities, such as Cartagena and Bogotá.
So, what is the true luxury tourism in Colombia? For me, it's having unrepeatable experiences, which you can only live in Colombia. For example, going to Bahía Solano ( in the Pacific Ocean ( and do whale watching. It is an incredible experience, with a beautiful landscape that has not been traveled by many tourists. The beaches of Bahía Solano are virgin beaches, which are worth visiting.
In the Orinoco region ( you can do safari llanero. There you can see various species of animals that are not found anywhere else in the world. The Amazon ( is also a unique place in Colombia, although it covers other countries in South America, it is an experience that is not lived anywhere in the world.
And that is, the true luxury travel in Colombia. Unique and original experiences, friendly Colombians and a great diversity of languages and cultures. Even the tourist services and luxury hotels in Colombia are under development, but this does not avoid Colombia from being the ideal destination for your next vacation.

Hey there! My name is Colombiafrank, and I’d like to welcome you to the beautiful country of Colombia. Check out all the places seen in this video:
Colombia has something that will please most travelers, from sandy beaches of the Caribbean and Pacific coasts, to the Andes Mountains and the Amazon rainforests. Its heritage reflects the culture of its indigenous peoples as well as the Spanish who began settling here in the early 15th century. A couple of decades or so ago, Colombia was not on the tourist map because it was not a safe place to visit. However, the government has worked hard to change that image, making it safer for travelers to enjoy the many features Colombia offers. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Colombia:

Check out my blog about the ISLANDS OF COLOMBIA

Welcome to Colombia

Colombia is the only country in South America that has a coast in the Pacific ( and the Atlantic ( therefore, it has more than 70 islands that are highly visited by tourists in Colombia.
The largest island is the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina in the Atlantic Ocean ( this is the insular region of Colombia ( There it is worth visiting Providencia ( an island with some of the most beautiful beaches in Colombia.
Around Cartagena there are also several islands, such as Barú ( If you want to enjoy a day at the beach in Cartagena, I recommend going to the nearby islands to have a quiet day in the Caribbean. Another good plan near Cartagena is to rent a yacht and go to Rosario Islands (
Also in the Caribbean is the most crowded island in the world, Santa Cruz del Islote ( in the Archipelago of San Bernardo (
In the Colombian Pacific you can visit islands such as Malpelo ( and Gorgona (
The islands of Colombia are wonderful places that you have to visit on your next trip to Colombia.
