In an unprecedented move that reflects the situation the world is currently facing, luxury watch brand Patek Philippe has broken tradition and granted authorised dealers the rare opportunity to sell its coveted pieces online.
This is quite unprecedented for the brand given that it has never sold its watches online, either through its own vertical or retail partners. In the past, clients had to buy timepieces through brick-and-mortar boutiques or private inquiries to the Patek Philippe boutiques or private inquiries to the brand as the Geneva-based watch company preferred its retailers to cultivate a bond with its clients.

If you want to get your hands on a brand new Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5711 in steel, be prepared to wait between eight and 12 years. Originally unveiled in the 1970s, the Nautilus has become a veritable icon in the horological world, sparking a long waiting list at retailers.
Its elusive status has skyrocketed the timepiece's price at auctions, and now, the Nautilus has broken a new record – selling for US$484,000 (S$689,644) at a recent online auction held by Sotheby’s.
The watch – a brand new Ref. 5711 in platinum with a blue jeans dial – is now the most expensive watch ever sold at an online auction. Only 30 to 50 Nautilus were ever produced in platinum, making it a rare, and therefore even more highly prized, bird than the steel version.

A watchmaker is an inventor, designer or builder of watches, especially mechanical movements and their accessories. The job also includes the maintenance and servicing of watches of all kinds. The Watchmaker deals with manufacturing, assembly, disassembly and repair clock movements and accessories, especially the watch case, so with design drawings, mechanical, electrical and electronic components of large and small movements in series - and individual production, and Troubleshooting, maintenance, care, testing and adjustment of modern and antique clocks, as well as basic and applied time measurement technology.
A watch wrist watch is a subject that takes your wrist with a strap of leather, rubber or metal. Initially, wristwatches were less popular for men who preferred pocket watches and wrist because the disdain felt like a jewel lady. The first watches were manufactured in the late nineteenth century. Until the advent of quartz watches the Europeans and Americans, particularly the Swiss took the lead in the construction of watches, but since then the Japanese are the ones who have taken the lead in this market.
The large number of currently available brands of mechanical watches must not obscure the fact that in many watches few works, so-called caliber are built, which are produced by movement manufacturers such as ETA SA. Only a few luxury watchmaker known watch manufacturers, make almost all the essential parts of their watches himself forth. The division of labor in the production of the Rohwerks, the so-called Ebauche, the installation in the housing by établisseurs and sale under different own brand name, however, has a long tradition.
With the advent of microelectronics, it was suddenly possible, very cheap to produce comparatively precise watches with quartz movement, which significantly altered the traditional watch industry.
