Tahiti
Queen of the Pacific

The heart and soul of the South Pacific, Tahiti is the largest in a chain of islands that make up French Polynesia. The name can either refer to the main island or the entire destination. Commonly referred to as The Islands of Tahiti, French Polynesia is a collection of 118 islands and atolls scattered across an impressive nautical surface area the size of Western Europe. Still, these tiny islands—many of which remain uninhabited—make up a total landmass of only 1,600 square miles

Tahiti

TAHITI (source Wikipedia):

Tahiti (previously also known as Otaheite) is the largest island in the Windward group of French Polynesia. The island is located in the archipelago of the Society Islands in the central Southern Pacific Ocean, and is divided into two parts: the bigger, northwestern part, Tahiti Nui, and the smaller, southeastern part, Tahiti Iti. The island was formed from volcanic activity and is high and mountainous with surrounding coral reefs. The population is 189,517 inhabitants (2017 census), making it the most populous island of French Polynesia and accounting for 68.7% of its total population.

Tahiti is the economic, cultural and political centre of French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity (sometimes referred to as an overseas country) of France. The capital of French Polynesia, Papeete, is located on the northwest coast of Tahiti. The only international airport in the region, Fa'a'ā International Airport, is on Tahiti near Papeete.

Tahiti was originally settled by Polynesians between 300 and 800 CE. They represent about 70% of the island's population, with the rest made up of Europeans, Chinese and those of mixed heritage.

The island was part of the Kingdom of Tahiti until its annexation by France in 1880, when it was proclaimed a colony of France, and the inhabitants became French citizens. French is the only official language, although the Tahitian language (Reo Tahiti) is widely spoken.

The New Tahiti: French Polynesia From A Local's Perspective (4K) | Mysteryman travels

Tahiti is the largest island in French Polynesia, the South Pacific archipelago. Shaped like a figure-8, it's divided into Tahiti Nui (the larger, western section) and Tahiti Iti (the eastern peninsula). With black-sand beaches, lagoons, waterfalls and 2 extinct volcanoes, it's a popular vacation destination. Explored by Captain James Cook in the 18th century, it was also often painted by French artist Paul Gauguin

Capital of French Polynesia

Papeete, on Tahiti, is the capital of French Polynesia, a group of islands in the South Pacific. Besides the port, busy Place Vai’ete fills with roulottes, or food carts, in the evenings.

Nearby, the large Marché de Papeete market sells local produce, fish, and handicrafts. The Robert Wan Pearl Museum focuses on the local pearl industry and sells jewelry. A red spire tops the 19th-century Notre Dame Cathedral.

The Most Beautiful Flight - Air Tahiti to Bora Bora

I traveled on Air Tahiti to explore the beauty of French Polynesian islands. My flight is from Papeete to Bora Bora with a stop at Huahine. I was invited to fly in the cockpit jumpseat on Air Tahiti ATR 72-600. Our first leg from Papeete to Huahine took about 30 minutes flying at 12,000 ft. We had a clear view of Moorea on the way.

Huahine is an island located among the Society Islands. Our flight brings in locals, tourists and daily supplies. Flying time to Bora Bora was just 15 minutes, at 4,000 ft. The weather becomes clear and I can see the turquoise-blue ocean and crystal-clear lagoon. The scenery was out of this world and it was one of the most beautiful flights I’ve taken.

There are no roads and no cars at Bora Bora airport. The only transportation is by boat to the main center or hotel. My flight back to Papeete was equally scenic, we flew low over some Tahitian overwater bungalow. Aviation plays an important role in transporting travelers and cargo supplies to these islands.

Tahiti, French Polynesia - Landing at Fa'a'ā International Airport HD (2017)

Fa'a'ā International Airport (French: Aéroport international de Tahiti Fa'a'ā) (IATA: PPT, ICAO: NTAA) is in the commune (municipality) of Fa'a'ā, on the island of Tahiti, French Polynesia, 5 km (3.1 mi) west southwest from the town center of Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia. Tahiti is in the northwestern part of French Polynesia, and this is the only international airport in the overseas collectivity of the French Republic. It opened in 1960. Air Tahiti and Air Tahiti Nui have their head offices at the airport.

First Day in French Polynesia Arrival in Tahiti Papeete

my arrival day in Papeete the capital of Tahiti

In the gardens I’ve meet some local people and they told me that if I continue the road heading east I will reach town Teahuapoo from there by boat I can get to place name Paradise in French de Pari.

Teahuapoo is famous of big waves, you might hear about it becasue i has got many surfing competitions. in 2024 French will host Olympics games and surfing competition will be here. Im asking a local guy to rent a boat but my French is very low so its hard for me to find info.

I was waiting 1 hour for the man on the bike but he never came back. hopefully one day I will come back here to this place. if you know anybody who has got a boat here place contact in the description below. Time to move on.

Right next stop, just before a tunnel the name is
O manutahi I te maru anahoho

Very nice spot to take pictures. Intersecting place to see the rock which is spitting water.

It was just a quick stop, I do have to tell you that if you are fan of surfing Tahiti is going to be a perfect for you because here the conditions are almost perfect for beginners. I think im going to try myself.

Tahiti its quite big island and if you properly want to explore it you will need 3-4 days. for me is not worth to go to all the places becasue in my schedule I do have other islands to visit. Tahiti is more like an airport hub for French Polynesia.

n this travel video, viewers will be taken on a journey around the island of Tahiti, the most populated island in French Polynesia. Starting in Papeete, the capital, the video will show viewers the must-see sights as they travel north to a lookout with stunning views of the lagoon and ocean. They will then visit the black sand beaches that Tahiti is known for, before continuing on to the three cascades. Viewers will see the easy walk to the Faarumai Waterfall, and the slightly longer hikes to the other two waterfalls, which are still not too strenuous.

Heading towards the eastern side of the island, viewers will be shown the Blow Hole, where they can experience the force of the ocean and the sound and spray of the waves. Moving on to the southern side of the island, the video will take viewers to the Vaipahi Water Garden, where there are three different trails to explore, including a river trail with views of a small waterfall and lush tropical landscapes.

After the water garden, viewers will see the three caves on an easy path, but swimming is not allowed at any of the pools. Tourism in Papeete, Tahiti? (French Polynesia)

Papeete is capitol of French Polynesia and administrative center of Tahiti island.
And, it is _not_ a touristic place, it is _not_ a tropical paradise, nor it is meant for tourists.
It is not even meant as a long term hub for local excursions.

Advice: Stay in Papeete only for a short time and then leave to other places around Tahiti (e.g. Moorea) and French Polynesia (e.g. Bora Bora). Exception: go to inner (island) Tahiti if you have a chance.

Video vividly illustrates all the mentioned claims.

Tahiti | French Polynesia | Papeete | Moorea | Raiatea

Hello Tahiti!!! The one place that we were so excited to get to on this itinerary. After 6 days at sea, we finally reach land and stop off at the capital - Papeete. We take a bus tour right around the island and see some amazing sights. We then move over to Moorea to snorkel all day but that didn't go to plan at all. Finally, Raiatea was our last stop in Tahiti but the weather made us abort that port stop. Unfortunately not everything goes to plan when on tour. Enjoy this special part of the world.
